New MERCEDES S-CLASS 2021 - intelligent DRIVE PILOT DEMONSTRATION (amazing technology)

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Today we are taking a look at the official Mercedes footage showing us the new Mercedes S-Class 2021 and it's DRIVE PILOT system.
The home office will soon be mobile - including for people behind the wheel. At least if they drive a vehicle bearing the three-pointed star: for Mercedes-Benz is determined to enable, in technical terms, the safe operation of an S-Class driving in conditionally automated mode and to meet the exacting legal requirements for what is known as a Level 3 system[1]. It is expected that from the second half of 2021 the S-Class will be able to drive in conditionally automated mode with the new DRIVE PILOT, in situations where traffic density is high or in tailbacks, on suitable motorway sections in Germany. By taking pressure off the driver, this allows them to undertake secondary activities[2] such as browsing on the internet or dealing with emails in the In-Car Office, and so win extra time. Mercedes-Benz goes another step further when it comes to parking: with the appropriate pre-installation for the INTELLIGENT PARKING PILOT, the S-Class is ready for driverless highly automated parking (Automated Valet Parking; Level 4[3]). For more details see the corresponding chapter. This plan sees Mercedes-Benz taking the crucial step towards conditionally and highly automated driving (SAE Level 3 and Level 4), thereby for the first time offering its customers the possibility in a series production vehicle of handing over the task of driving to the vehicle.
For the first time, the vehicle takes control while the DRIVE PILOT is active in the Mercedes-Benz S-Class. This is a paradigm change. It is Mercedes-Benz's view that the safe operation of a system of this nature can only be realised with the help of an extended sensor set. This also includes LiDAR ("Light Detection and Ranging": optical measurement of distance and speed), highly precise positioning and an HD map (digital map in high-definition quality). This ensures that the system can confidently hand over safely to the driver even in difficult situations.
While using the DRIVE PILOT, the driver can turn away from what is happening on the road and turn to certain secondary activities, be that communicating with colleagues via In-Car Office, browsing on the internet, or enjoying a relaxing seat massage. This is because in DRIVE PILOT mode, functions can be enabled that are otherwise blocked when driving. However, the driver must always be ready to retake control and immediately resume driving as necessary when the system prompts them to do so, or if it is obvious that the conditions for correct use of the DRIVE PILOT no longer apply.

    @@iacopob Ou it shows. This is a Level 3 driving System, Tesla only has Level 2, sorry. But what means Level 3 you may ask? Level 3 means that the car is responsible in the situations you activate it. You don’t have to touch the steering wheal anymore and as said, you are not responsible if a car crash happens. Therefore the step from Level 2 to 3 is the biggest because the state has to test it all around. There has to be no error or problem in the slightest, everything must work perfectly. That is what Mercedes achieved and Tesla is lacking behind. It’s Teslas neglect of safety and quality that helped Mercedes to establish the best allowed system in the world.

    how does it handle being cut off? One thing I've found with my adaptive cruise control is it leaves a massive space between the car in front. You're constantly having people cut into your lane. i turn off my adaptive cruise in those situations because it slams on the brakes all the time to gain back that 15 ft or whatever the defined gap must be.

  • @dstfno

    @dstfno

    The brake slamming doesn't occur since some years already. It goes back to the required distance but smoothly. Unless the car in front of you cuts you off with just a couple of inches left.

    Tesla is Innovative, nothing more. I wouldn't say Tesla is bad but their have many problems with their devices themself. Mercedes or Daimler are in the game since it began and since it began they're leading the market. The difference is Mercedes don't build something in their cars their not sure it will work for 100%, Tesla is more like: we don't test it for years, we're testing and learning while building cars and use all of the technologie we're able to build in our cars.

    @@wingman600 is true. Mercedes has zero problems with full electric cars.... Because they don't have full electric cars on the market. Apart from the EQC which went out late 2019 (so it has less than 2 years) and I have never seen one model on the streets. And it does only 260 km with a full charge. Mercedes also has zero problems with autonomous vehicles.... Because they don't have autonomous vehicles. We can also say that SEAT they don't release electric full autonomous cars without a good testing... You can tell that for every company that doesn't have released electric full autonomous yet.

    @@FrancescoMantovani It seems that you just don't realy understand how companys making decisions. It's almost impossible to make yourself a name nowadays because we have enough different Brands for cars, their expensive and you dont buy cars like jeans or t shirts, that means customers prefers brands with experience(Because of the High price). The only way to make yourself a name is to be innovative, to have something that the other brands not have. Of course is Tesla more experienced with autonomous driving, but it's just a matter of time till Mercedes, Volswagen and Audi will beat Tesla in that. The difference is in the effort and time they are using to build these systems, they're still selling enough other cars so they can take their time with that. Tesla can't do that and Tesla would be half as succesfull as they're now if they would build normals cars too. It's about Image and time ;)
