⌨ New Mechanical Keyboard Build - CNC Aluminum Case (With PBT Keycaps)

It's a rainy afternoon, let's build a new keyboard!
Oh if you want to see the other crazy dual battery wireless keyboard build I made shown in the video, go here: • ⌨ Custom DUAL BATTERY ...
I should be working on other projects, but I've been wanting to build a new keyboard for a while and I haven't had the time so while the weather is bad let's get it done.
This is a WASD V3 programmable keyboard, I got the keycaps and case secondhand, and I wasn't even sure if I had enough keycaps to cover a full keyboard, but I did thankfully.
The centerpiece of this build is the CNC aluminum case, it's super high quality and extremely hefty. Unfortunately the case was missing the screws for the port, so I had to hunt for some of my own. I did find some that would fit but they were too long. I also managed to install one that wasn't quite small enough and the head ended up rounding off, so that one got stuck. I would spend the time pulling it out but honestly 2 screws is enough to hold the port in. Also this is the older micro port style and I could adapt it to Type-C but I really don't need it, if I ever feel the need I'll just drill and tap my own holes or just epoxy or hotglue it in place. The other thing it didn't have was any insulation from potential shorts, since the case can conduct electricity unlike the ABS plastic cases, this is something you should consider. I just used some cheap packing tape to isolate it.
Next I installed the switches, these are AJAZZ diced fruit, the banana type specifically. 63g Tactile bump and pre-lubed from the factory. These switches are very cheap, sound good and feel good, plus they look cool! Installing them was easy since this is a hotswap socketed board, although I'm not super font of hot swap sockets I much prefer soldered switches due to the reliability. After that we just threw on the keycaps which are an old Vortex set of front printed dark gray, they are PBT (though not doubleshot) and super thick. They look and feel good although they are a pretty cheap set.
The only issue I had was with the spacebar, I thought it may have been the secondary stem rubbing on the switch housing, but turns out it was just that the keycap was a tad bit too thick so taking some sandpaper to where it bound in the middle took care of that and all was well.
I was excited to get this up and running because I've been typing on a very tired MX blue switch keyboard and although it still works I'm just ready for something different. Thanks for coming along on this quick build and I have a ton more mods, keyboards and computer related things in the works.

Industrial look is the word. I'm yet to see anything near as good as your cyber punk board. Damd weather putting a dampener on my entertainment. Shocking 🤣 All the best for Christmas mate and I hope to see a new vid in the new year 👍

I was here to learn how the insulation is done on a PCB in a cnc aluminium case. I was disappointed.

Didn't like my insulation? Typically there is a plastic insert that is laser cut that fits the bottom exactly, I didn't have that part so I DIY'd it. It's not even really necessary as the PCB does not touch the case, it's more of a "just in case" (pun intended) precaution. You can do other insulators, "tape mod", fill it with wool, fill it with foam, fill it with anything that isn't electrically conductive. All will change the sound signature slightly. This has been my main board since I made this video and I use it every day without issues 👍

@@hightech-lowlife Your solution is fine but I wouldn't do that myself. Glad to hear your keyboard is getting great use and is working great! :)
