Cyndi Lauper was in South Korea for a musical when the song was released and she said in an interview that she had LMM in her playlist. Recently Hwasa performed LMM at SBS Drama Awards. She prepared 'I love my body' and Chili for that stage but since an actor took his life just few days before she changed her performance last minute to honor his memory...it was such a beautiful gesture and showed once again what an amazing artist and human being Hwasa is. I've listened to LMM so many times but every single time I watch the mv or a live performance by Hwasa I can't help but tear up, this song is everything. The lyrics, the music, the mv. Hwasa came up with this masterpiece in a deep moment of desperation and you can feel it all in the song.

You really should do a video where you react to the entire Maria album. I know it seems crazy, but every single track (even the intro) is right up your alley. I don't want to tell you why, because it's better if you're just surprised. Just trust me. It would be epic!

What I take away from hearing the interview combined with the arrow symbolism of the MV is that, she has learned to ignore the endless barrage from the media and internet and none of that can harm her. Its her own self criticism that causes harm. What I love about all the Mamamoo members is that they know how to give lyrical and visual symbolism that is both personal to them but can be interpreted by the listener in their own way and still be valid.

not just that they use lyrical and visual symbolism but... more importantly that it comes from the members themselves. That they are hands on, having their say in what they wear, what they sing, that they have influence (if not writing by themselves) on the lyrics and even about the visuals of the MV. Up to little details and not just the story board. So unlike most other groups they aren't just there to look pretty and just do as they are told, no they are adults, artists, have character and depth.

Recently Hwasa sang LMM at an end of year awards ceremony (many groups, soloists are called to perform) Hwasa would perform her solos: "I Love my body" and "Chilli". But in respect for the death of a Korean actor who, just a few days before the awards ceremony, had attempted to kill himself. She decided that she would sing LMM in honor, changing everything she had already planned. It was exciting😭 HWASA LMM SBS: kzread.info/dash/bejne/gpOsl6ymgsa8aM4.htmlsi=fNZfICNpbA27_aFPkzread.info/dash/bejne/gpOsl6ymgsa8aM4.htmlsi=fNZfICNpbA27_aFPkzread.info/dash/bejne/gpOsl6ymgsa8aM4.htmlsi=fNZfICNpbA27_aFP

This song is hauntingly beautiful. It's so brave of her to take such a raw, vulnerable side of herself and share it with people, knowing that some of those people are the very ones who try to hurt her like this. She is such a gifted artist, and has such a beautiful soul.

She really spills her guts here and lets all the actual fans know what she is really like. The haters will still hate no matter what so she may as well be completely honest with the fans. Opening herself like that and being vulnerable to the fans makes her SO RELATABLE. It works wonders. This is why she is The Korean Queen Of Queens. People LOVE her for her pure heart and her clear intentions more than what the goddamned haters can deal with. Of course it is emotional but so is being scrutinized, criticized and bullied EVERY DAY. So the haters plans backfired, which is GREAT JUSTICE. Now, if only we could get every one of these haters perma-banned from the entire internet... If ALL of THOSE PARTICULAR Internet Trolls and haters were perma-banned, I bet that's close to HALF the Internet Troll problem in South Korea solved.

I cry every time I watch this video. You can hear the pain in her voice mc especially at the end. It’s like frustration and hurt all at once. But seeing the video with it, it just hits on another level. I feel it’s common for artists to act out their emotions in mvs, even if the song is about a personal experience. Like they will act sad without being sad. I don’t feel like that’s what we saw here. Hwasa has this amazing ability to be completely and utterly vulnerable to the world when it comes to creating her songs and their mvs. That looked and felt real to me. Like she was genuinely feeling it in that moment. She looks about to cry at the end. And as others have said, you basically got it right about the arrows’ significance. But I will add, she is specific about how she uses them. At first they’re outside and it’s still daylight when they’re are falling. And they slowly follow her into the house, which has the feeling of being more like a fortress, like a wall she built in her mind to keep their words out. She hides in her bedroom and she can still hear the arrows outside. She continues to look for anywhere in her house where she can hide from them, but they follow her everywhere. But the arrows stop at night, when the world is asleep and she can finally have a few moments of reprieve. And of course in the end, it’s only her own words that hurt her. And as they zoom out at the end, the arrows stop looking like arrows and begin to look more like flowers spread across the landscape. It’s the perfect end cap for her album. The first song begins with a sound of trickling water, like a brook. And it ends with LMM, and the sound of ocean waves crashing on a shore. I think it’s very symbolic, especially since the album is called Maria, her baptismal name. The sounds of the water symbolize a baptism, a washing away of the bad parts of you that will hold you back. It’s such a powerful theme and the perfect way to portray how she was feeling. There just truly isn’t another artist like Hwasa. ❤

Thank you for doing more reactions to Mamamoo members. Anything that helps more people discover our queens. They are next level entertainers. If these songs don't explain how Hwasa is the secret weapon of the group. She excels at every aspect of what they are doing. And as for the imagery in the MVs,... could anyone have done this like she did?? This is a singularly special performer. NO ONE else would have hit this hard. She is literally standing alone just singing into a microphone,... and it's EPIC!!!

The arrows do represent the hate she gets, but none of it really hurts anymore. To her it's like the rain. Not fun but flowers still bloom. When she starts believing the haters and thinks evil of herself is the arrow she shoots. That one hurts. There is a line, "Do you want to get some more? Do you want to go somewhere?" I see it as her trying to decide if she should stay as a singer and idol or run away to get out of the public eye and avoid the hate. Then you see her walking away from the beautiful house, but the arrows follow, and she is hit by her own arrow, making her realize there is no escape, so she turns back. In the end, the arrows in the ground around her look like flowers. It seems to me that most of the hate comments idols get are from immature fans of other singers who are trying to build up the one they like by pulling down anyone who might compete against them.

I love Hwasa's high notes but I agree, her lower register is captivating. She has this way of enunciating certain words/lyrics that just gets me. She did it in Paint Me as well. Love it. She changed her Chili performance for LMM recently and I cried hearing it knowing what happened recently.

If you ever get the chance. Watch the 354 episode of I Live Alone. Half of the episode is about Hwasa's daily life, in the case it was about her Maria album release, her getting hurt, and learning her mom had had to go to hospital. She talks about the joy she feels creating her music, but also the sadness of being away from family because of her career. She's in many more ILA episodes and was/is a regular cast member (though right now because of her schedule she hasn't been on the show) Episode 354 is one of my favorite Hwasa episodes. The rest of Mamamoo has also been shown on the show. Another amazing artist on there is Key from SHINee. Crush, Mino from Winner, Kai and Xiumin from Exo, as well as members from TVXQ, BTOB, and Sandara from 2NE1 have also been on episodes. Anyways I've entered ranting territory so I will stop here lol 😊😊

LMM bookends the Maria album with Maria. Like Maria she is singing to herself in LMM. The whole album is about her struggling to love herself. The arrows do represent the hate she gets but it's important that only the one she fires herself actually injures her. She recently performed at an theatrical award ceremony. A well know Korean actor had just committed suicide and she switched her performance from I Love My Body to LMM in honor of him.

When I watch a MV I must turn on captions so I can know what they are singing about. However, this is one song that I watched with no subtitles and just her voice and scenery hit me deep. I can see why you like to focus on vocals and music. You are right about meaning. Arrow she shot meaning words from others cannot hurt her. She is the only one that can hurt herself. This woman is a treasure. I hope she keeps putting out music like this. Just beautiful. ❤❤❤❤

Yes!!!!!!! The MV was beautiful, she was beautiful, her vocals were beautiful!!!! Sadly, this was my first real listen to her and Mamamoo, as I heard this song at an awards show as a tribute just 2 days after the death of Korean actor Lee Sun-Kyun. Lee was my favorite Kdrama actor, with his spectacular performance in My Mister and his performance in Parasite! That she chose to performance this just 2 days his death, changing her scheduled performances of Chili and I Love My Body, showed the courage she had to make a public statement against those systems that shot "arrows" at Lee Sun-Kyun to the point he committed suicide! Without English subtitles, I cried because her performance was beyond beautifully heartbreaking and her pain and emotions were raw and right there for all to see! She is the most amazing strong woman!!!!! 💖💖 Here's the link to her live performance at SAS 2023. kzread.info/dash/bejne/foqYo7arfcWWdqg.htmlsi=Dm2dCqIV7RkfqlrI

LMM is also my favorite Hwasa solo. Your first thoughts were not incorrect. The arrows do represent the hate comments. Other commenters are correct, the one she shoots and gets hit by does represent the effect of self criticism. From seeing and reading multiple explanations from her, she has developed a strong resistance to the hate, but she is only human and every once in a while when it gets particularly overwhelming, it gets to her. When she was writing Maria and LMM she had just gone through one of those times. It was very dark for her. She felt lost, she felt lonely, and she felt abandoned. She did consider her options. Would it go away if she just quit making music and left the public eye. It even went deeper to the point that she wondered if it would require her to end her life to stop the constant assault. But as we get to hear in the interview, she has a lot of wisdom for such a young age. Myself, I don't remember having that kind of insight in my 20's. She amazes me in so many ways. Mamamoo and Hwasa in particular layer meanings into their songs and MV's. There's much that gets missed by even the most perceptive viewers. Often there's double meanings in lyrics. And because she is so involved in her MV productions, the visuals can add a third concept that was not expressed in the song itself. She just blows my mind. Lastly, as you noted, Hwasa can transcend language barriers. I am somewhat older and have experienced a large number of vocalists over the years. There are many artists who can relay emotion through their music. But I have never experienced it to the degree Hwasa can do it. She continually wrecks me when she sings. And when she sings LMM, I will inevitably break down. Then I thank the universe. Thank you for your reaction. ✌️

I’m ADHD, and I have the same problem with watching MVs with lyrics. 😂 it’s just not happening. I’ve come to a point where I’ll watch the video without the lyrics, and then I’ll just watch a lyric video after. Cause if I try rewatching the MV to read the lyrics, I inevitably start of cusing on the visuals again. ADHD is a whole thing. 😂
