Nice review on this mini bench-top. Shows up for under a $100 even up here in Canada. A bit over once the duty goes on but still pretty good for what you get shown thru your review. Its always nice to have another meter on your bench, and what's this, ....for free ? SWEET ! If you don't get the opportunity to get another vid out before the Jolly Guy shows up, nope its not you Eddie !, I trust you and those close to you enjoy a wonder Christmas and a Happy New YEAR ! Thanks again Eddie for some great content.

for a bench multimeter it looks pretty cool and has the same functions as the DMM but for looks i give it a thumbs up for the large counter on it, it gets the other hand thumbs up. Now all that is needed is for me to go and get one for my bench. Thanks for the great review.

Thanks for asking! It is better than many 6000 count multimeters, and yes it is TRMS. I think all high count meters are TRMS, and those digits do add value as you can see in the video. And you are right - it does seem just as quick as the 6000 count meter.

I have the slightly older Aneng version of this and I love it, its a great bench meter for a home gamer tinkerer like myself, but it has bluetooth speakers Ill never use but had to pay for and this ones voice feature seems pointless to me as it wont always match the readout as my guess. I've been looking for a panel mount multimeter I can build into my test bench alongside my Riden power supply and Juntech signal generator. At first I thought this was going to be 'close but no cigar' (too deep, buttons on the back), but when you opened it, it looks like I could modify it! Move that internal speaker box under the bench and rewire the rear buttons to the front. But can it be operated safely on USB power, or is that just for battery charging? Could I ask a favour: please could you try removing the batteries and applying USB power to see if it would work on mains only, and maybe also measure continuity between the USB connector and the black probe connector to see if it is isolated? The button on the test lead is a really cool innovation and nicely implemented with the coaxial plug, but I think I'd prefer it operated a 'hold' function rather than the voice, cute though the subtle Chinese inflection is!

It's seems to have some isolation inside. The 'bridge-rectifiers' are opto-coupler. This make sense with the isolation 5V DC/DC-converter. Sure the DMM will have isolation, if it has any link to a PC (well, only BT).

  • @john_hind

@@KissAnalog I actually got around to doing this project! Here in the UK, I could only get the same device branded "ANENG AN-999S" and it speaks Chinese despite having English text exclusively on the front panel! It works fine on USB power, even with the batteries removed, and the USB power ground is isolated from the probe ground which is excellent! As expected from your tear-down, it was easy to convert to panel mount, but the skirt of the rubberised front panel was too deep for my liking so I used a Dremmel to cut it down so there is only about 20mm in front of the mounting panel and 50mm behind the panel, approximately the same as the Riden RD6006 PSU and Juntek JDS2800 signal generator. It was easy to move the rear buttons to the front panel simply by soldering new push buttons across the existing ones on the PCB. The internal speaker enclosure is relocated under the bench. Now I have all the essential test equipment on the bench top without crowding the work off the front due to lack of depth! Next step, see if I can rewire the button on the probe to duplicate the front panel "hold" button, otherwise I'll just have to learn Chinese!

i got one of those, why didn't you show it's wings and jet engine? It can fly! there is a secret button that you probably didn't find that turns it into a hot chick for those of us who are single, but i only discovered the other secret button that turns it into a spaceship that only flies at warp 20 and straight to the intergalactic space. The thing never came back!!! So, I do not recommend it, not even to my enemy, lol

I remembered now, it was not a button, rather a knob of all magical options, like a rotary encoder kind of thing. I bought it back in the day, not to measure electrical stuff, but to keep me fed and warm and healthy and to live forever (it had all those options and more). Merry christmas boss

Pointless video. He has a lab full of reference standards and high precision meters, yet he doesn't actually check how accurate the measurements from the Zotek are. Pretty sad that his most profound discovery (repeated numerous times) is _"look at all those digits"_ ... yet it's just a 20,000 count meter with 4.5 digits, which is nothing special. 🙄

Thanks for your feedback! Have you ever seen a video where the meter was out of cal? If so, It must have been a one of a kind. Most meters costing much more are 6k count, so a 20k count is not the norm. What were you expecting - one of those pointless videos where someone takes a bunch of measurements - and then says - close enough - without every shareing what the tolerance should be for that measurement? I'm not here for that - so maybe you should watch those videos. 20k count - nothing special??

@@KissAnalog - a 25000 count handheld meter like the Aneng SZ20 or Zoyi ZT-225 is about USD $40. That's well under half the price of this meter. I am not saying the reviewed meter is a bad thing, but 4.5 digits is nothing special at the $100 price point these days.

Thanks for your reply. Yes Aneng, Kaiweets, and Zoyi have high count meters for great prices - and that is my point. Most meters - until you go over $200 or even $300 are 6k count meter. The Zoyi meter you point out makes these 'bench top' meter that I am review. So first you like Zoyi and their pricing, but not the Zoyi meter in this review? It is a bench top and you compare it to hand held meters. This bench top meter has a voice activated measurement system and a clock and will play music via bluetooth. But you were so triggered by the high count that you thought I repeated too many times that you ignored all this. So what again was your point??

@@KissAnalog - my points were clearly stated. 1. You didn't check the meter you were reviewing against any other meter or references. You didn't really demonstrate it much at all. 2. You repeatedly expressed excitement about 20,000 counts, yet that is nothing special at this quality/price point. I made no adverse comment about this meter, and specifically clarified that in my 2nd comment. . It was only about your "review". I based my judgement about this on the numerous other channels that I subscribe to that review the same types of products. Oh, and I know who makes the meters, which is why I mentioned the Aneng and Zoyi as a comparison.

Again your point #1 is a wast of time - and in your words - pointless. Your point #2 is again incorrect. Also, this is a bench top meter with rechargeable battery back up - where else can you find that at this price? Also, it has a radio and can read back measurements via a voice so that you don’t have to look away from your probes. Again, where can you find all this at this price? You are so triggered by my excitement… Sorry - it is great you have other review channels that you can watch many measurements against, what you are told, are references - which they are not in fact. At least not real calibrated references. But - if that’s what you like…

their website has NO downloads at all, this means NO manuals, NO firmware updates. NO support links . like many of the cheap products it looks like you are own your own also there is no information about any guarantee or warrantee . The website gives NO accuracy figures and NO specifications - just a features list. This is the entire website entry for the meter: "ZT-5566SE is a desktop digital multimeter with Mapp and voice broadcast, It’s a powerful 5-in-1 product, an ideal tool for electricians and maintenance.,CAT III 600V, CAT II 1000V, you can get measurements for : AC/DC VOLTAGE, AC/DC CURRENT RESISTANCE CAPACITANCE FREQUENCY DUTY CYCLE CONTINUITY DIODE REGULAR TEMPERATURE EXTRA FUNCTIONS: MAPP VOICE BROADCAST AUTO/MANUAL RANGE TRUE-RMS HOLD HD DISPLAY LOW BATTERY ALERT AUTO POWER OFF BLUETOOTH SPEAKER TIME DISPLAY ALARM CLOCK MAX/MIN RELATIVE MEASUREMENT" that's is nothing more about the meter except 2 photos... and the funniest part is their link to their privacy policy is a template which has NOT been filled out... for example it says: "The Site is not intended for individuals under the age of [INSERT AGE]. " "Disclosure for a business purpose: [ADD ANY VENDORS USED TO PROVIDE CUSTOMER SUPPORT]" "[INSERT ANY OTHER INFORMATION YOU COLLECT: OFFLINE DATA, PURCHASED MARKETING DATA/LISTS]" "[INSERT FOLLOWING SECTION IF AGE RESTRICTION IS REQUIRED]" "We [DO/DO NOT] engage in fully automated decision-making that has a legal or otherwise significant effect using customer data." etc etc.... "Our Site sells Personal Information, as defined by the California Consumer Privacy Act of 2018 (“CCPA”)." "Please note that because there is no consistent industry understanding of how to respond to “Do Not Track” signals, we do not alter our data collection and usage practices when we detect such a signal from your browser." in other words they do NOT honour do NOT track, will sell your data... nice its entirely template so much for attention to detail... which is what you want in a test equipment manufacturer... I suggest before you are attracted to the screen or form factor you look at the website and specs (or lack of in this case)....

Looks like an awesome set of features! I would be interested in one to live permanently on my hamshack desk. I wish it had a battery checker built in to test AA, AAA and 9volt batteries. Guess I could make a load box with test points but having that built in would be nice. de K4TEN

Thanks for your feedback! I agree - I like a battery checker;) A resistor will work in a pinch - just to take off that surface charge.
