@@peacepage Believe me when I say this there isn’t no freedom. All you will do is deal with rude passengers and driver on the road. No matter what it is always going to be your fault for everything. I’ve been a bus driver since 2018. Also the shift work is the worse. You will work one week from 4am then week after you’ll start from 12pm and then 5pm, no life or nothing it’s the worse. It was ok first year or so then it just got to me. My current job is day shift same shifts and 100x better than bus driving.

So many different ways to lower the bus and deploy the ramp. They should be standard across all makes. The easiest is the Volvo MCV, put the ramp out, then lower the bus.Your new Driver is magic I wish him a long career on the buses. ,lovely feeding of the steering wheel, and top mirror work, a credit to his Instructor.I always say that TL Drivers are the best.

The general rule is that the bus must be in either maximum ride height, or in the case of scanias, middle ride height, ( most scanias can raise the suspension as well not just lower to give extra clearance over tall curbs) otherwise there is a chance for the ramp to fold or collapse during use. Once you drive all the different models after a while youll know routinely what you need to do on each bus. Especially if you work at a more "rural" depot where the fleet is not uniform unlike London. Where I work we use 7 different models of buses, mix of ADs and Scanias. When I was new it took me a few weeks but once you experienced with all of them you no longer think about it.

@@waifuracer6516 Good points. Volvos and Wright buses have this raising as well as lowering facility as well as kneeling the front. Most Drivers are a bit wary of lowering Wright Volvos, as the brake interlock can stick and you can look like a right idiot trying to lower and raise again to clear it. Enviro 200's and 400's are pretty straightforward to use. Optare, (now Switch Mobility) electric buses have a cumbersome lowering procedure, handbrake on, press the lowering button, then wait an age for it to happen before the doors will even work. While this is happening the punters are shouting and pressing the bell, joys of the job I guess.

I never drove buses with both hands. One leg was on dashboard and other was on break n accelerator. Being your own boss was great part of the job. No camera watching driver just watching bus lane. That bus I’d hate telling me to apply handbrake. Damn these days they can see where you are. They see you on camera. I always Nelt with the bus. The ramps never worked for the disabled and people only ringing the bell once was great. But I couldn’t do it again now.

As an ex “ conductor” from the 80’s , based at West Norwood garage , I often wonder if drivers could do with an extra “ security “ passenger / guard sitting on their bus , as they seem so involved in making sure they get from A - to B , ? Do drivers feel vulnerable, or is it not an issue anymore ?

at 4:50 136 drivers will wait for the 343 drivers to come and pick up people, so they don't have to, and they know the next bus stop will be super busy too. : ) Also you not suppose to lower the bus when putting out the ramp with most buses you can't open the ramp if the bus is lowered too.
