    So rare. I watched this for the first time back in 2014. They all had so much awareness and were not afraid to vocalise their views. Love that! I was totally expecting them to be over-polished, robotic answers (the typical thing you get from big boybands) but they were always authentic and true to themselves which I love about them.

    Thanks for posting, Donnie was always great at giving us real NKOTB fans the strength and ability to stand up to those nay- sayers out there. It wasn't easy growing up being a New Kid fan. But here in 2011 I am STILL proud to support them. And I am still going to bat for them. I love them...loud and proud!!

    I loved New Kids through my mom when I was in my pre-teens (around 10/11) and of course I watched this back in the day for the music and the pretty faces - watching this @ 16, they were amazing, and I have so much respect for them as people. Most definitely not just a cheesy pop band.

    I can understand if a person just don't like their kind of music maybe George Straight or maybe Metallica, but it doesn't make it right to spread rumors and degrade someone just because you don't like the music, just open your mind or don't listen, do your own thing! but it's not right to dog another person or group just because of jealousy or whatever I'm proud for anybody's success even if I don't like that kind of music, for example I don't like Metallica music or Alice Cooper, well that's my problem

    Hangin Tough was just too big an album. Then from there the Kids merchandising exploded and they were everywhere, to the point the music seemed to take a back seat to everything else. That’s when the hate started and the kids realized they needed a more mature sound and started breaking away from Maurice Starr. I always wondered where it could have gone if they weren’t burned out and after the remix album had a follow up album in the vain of the songs they were working on with Narada Michael Walden and Walter Afansieff, the producers behind If You Go Away and Keep On Smilin’. Back in retrospect it’s obvious they recorded a lot of songs with them… some of which were on the Face The Music album… Ever Since You Walked Into My Life, I’ll Still Be Loving You. Those songs were a natural next step for the group and their fans versus the songs they released with Face the Music. I think that step was just too far removed from what they had done before.

    Looking back, it would've been better if they never addressed their haters. Just leave it alone. It started to turn into them singing about being dissed. It was a sign of the beginning of the end. Now, fastforward nearly 30 years later and they're going strong, but I think they took a harder hit than need be. They simply came out at a bad time. NSYNC and BSB came out at a more receptive time.

    I think it got to the point where it was affecting their careers. I think the media was spreading that rumor around so they really had no choice but to address it. I kind of wish they were able to have full control of the whole thing because Face the music was a really good album and proved that they weren't Maurice's "puppets" and they had talent. NKOTB definitely came out at a bad time. I bet if they came out now, they would have the popularity of one direction, for example.

  • @jaygriffperiod85

    @jaygriffperiod85

    3 жыл бұрын

    You are absolutely correct. So many artists have things said about them, but the artists ignore the haters (who lose interest), and keep it going with the people that support them. Media training (which the group lacked) may have a reason to do with that, but also realizing that haters are irrelevant if you don't fuel them. Them continuing on to address the haters is why they declined a lot quicker than they would have. People weren't even talking about their music anymore (they stopped playing it after a while), and when you did hear about/see them, it was about them being defensive, and focusing on negativity. They became successful due to their positive images/messages, but continued focusing on the negativity for 3 years straight. They felt like growth was being defensive, hard, and edgy, but missed the other ways to show growth without addressing their haters. Whatever issues they had, they should have talked about it with their teams, support systems, and a therapist. Their haters were fueled, and their audience continued to be alienated with their antics. Don't let people who don't like you see you sweat/pressed/bothered. "Games" and the AMA performance was a defensive move focused on negativity that alienated their fans, and caused their haters to go at them harder. The song didn't even chart because radio people were turned off. They spent the entire promotional period of the remix album talking about their haters. They spent too much time talking about the ludicrous lipsyncing rumors, long after people stopped giving a crap. They used "Face The Music" to fuel a more negative, defensive appearance to seem intimidating, and also to talk about the haters. "Dirty Dawg" was clearly another attempt to prove to people that they were "hard" (and was an "F U" song), and all of the interviews during that period were defensive, unwelcoming, unenthusiastic, and negative. None of this showed genuine growth, but the fact that they focused on their haters (and were pressed) instead of focusing on their fans. Addressing their haters started a bad snowball effect, and they would have been a lot better off by not addressing them at all.

    Oh, my God. This interview is just hilarious. Pearls of Wisdom from NKOTB. Love some of the comments/statements... “People who ‘boo’ NKOTB are just ignorant because they don’t take the time to learn what NKOTB is all about.” (Oh, dear God. They were a put-together boy band. Such good advice, makes me wish I had learned more about what The Backstreet Boys were all about). “Other musical acts who don’t respect us, that’s fine. We’re gonna do what we wanna do, and you do what you wanna do.” (Existential philosophy at its finest. Plotinus would be ecstatic). “If you ‘boo’ us, that just makes wanna move further up to the top.” (Well then, might I suggest writing more “Funky, Funky Xmas” type ballads?).
