I was really impressed with Donnie’s (& everyone in NKOTB) answers & just overall depth & candidness… I have to admit Donnie was always my favorite as a kid because ya know ya had to have a favorite 😉 NKOTB will always hold a special place in my heart. @@honeybee1226 New Edition was before New Kids on the Block but New Edition was a black band in New Kids on the Block are a white band. The fans don't care though. Both bands are loved. New Kids changed history though and paved the way for every other group after them and even for the groups in the same time period that were trying to come up before fame hit them. New Kids had it all and I mean they were able to perform different genres in the same song(s) and album(s). New Kids were the only band of their generation that made it sooo big, even exceeding Madonna and Micheal Jackson and Prince! New Edition inspired New Kids on the Block. I wish all the original NE would get back together and go on tour, even if just for one year. It would be epic for them to go on tour with New Kids and concert together!

I don't understand how they are the original boy band. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE the NKOTB, but they are a group and not a band. Also, there were the Jackson 5, the Osmonds and New Edition, before NKOTB. So why are they being referred to as the original boy band?

i like to copy the new kids on the block style. from diffrent photos. it's one of my many hobbies. i imitate alot of what they wear just not suits, just tee-shirt, long sleeved shirts. henley shirts, i collect men's clothes. i'm not a lesbien but i am not againsed any sexural prefrence, i do not discrinate anyone. but look at donnie's beanie hat in this video. i imitate that.i'm inspiried by nkotb's style. i'm a very big blockhead.

Yes they are. They started it all back in the 80s. Then came Take That, and then it Backstreet Boys & NSYNC in the late 90s ;)

No, Jackson 5, Menudo, etc., were around before. Boy bands actually go back to the singing quartets etc., from the 40s and 50s. NKOTB were the first extremely successful ones on the global scale though and became the blue print for all the groups that followed.

Christina Gmiterko NKOTB was the first classic boy band. Bands like Jackson Five were "just" a band. The classic definition of a boyband, is when 2-5 guys form a band, where they all sing (and dance for the most parts) NKOTB was the first boyband to exist, and they paved the way for all the 90s and 00s boybands, most notibly BSB, Take That & *NSYNC ;)

I would have to strongly disagree with that. None of those groups were actually "bands". So I'm not sure what you mean by "just a band". New Edition, the Monkee's, the Jackson 5, Menudo, the four seasons, and more all were called "boy bands" and all predated NKOTB. Your definitation of a boyband "is when 2-5 guys form a band, where they all sing (and dance for the most parts)" -- all of those prior groups did that. So every group mentioned fits that definition. They were all on all the teen bopper magazines in their respective times, they all performed on live tv, some had their own tv shows, girls plastered their rooms with their posters etc etc. Much of NKOTB's early discography was about paying homage to the boybands of the past even. I love NKOTB and they are my faves, but they were not the first boyband. But as I mentioned, they were the first ones that really set the template of the more modern idea of boy bands, like NSYNC etc.
