You didn’t mention that the front boot is only that small because you were driving the AWD version, the RWD version front boot is at least twice as big. Also the storage under the floor of the boot not able to store the cables because that car has the Meridian sound system fitted, if you have the regular sound system you get the space bug enough for your cables.

EV6 RANGE PROBLEM I’ve had two test drives in the Kia Ev6, it’s great, everything the reviewers say it is. I arranged a longer test drive today as I have never owned an EV and needed first hand experience of range… if it was even close to WLTP figures I was ordering one at end of test. Test car was a 77kwh RWD GT Line S. it had a 98% charge and was showing a 285 mile range ( even at this point I thought the projected range was low, but I so wanted to be proved wrong ) WLTP range is 328 for a fully charged RWD. The outside temp was 12c and throughout the test it mostly rained… the car was in ECO throughout. Heating was on for first 25 miles or so, including heated steering wheel and seats, but I turned heating to setting one and seats and steering wheel cancelled heat output. I did 132 miles on test… 60 motorway, 60 A/B road miles, and about 12 miles urban driving. I used 75% regenerative braking and hardly used the brakes at all, the system was that good. At end of test battery was showing 92 miles range ? This equated to 224 miles off a 98% charge, providing I got the full 92 miles out of the batttery…. At start the car said I had 285 miles ? Interestingly, the car at start and end of test showed 2.9 m/kWh on display. This works out at 77 x 2.9 = 223. 3 miles… an exact measure of what the car was doing. In conclusion, WLTP figures of 328 miles … The car at start said I had a 285 mile range… My actual range at best would have been 224 ? And the car itself verified my figures via its miles per kWh display. I have been in touch with Kia UK but was offered no interest, explanation, or concern…. I was told to go on the EV FORUMS to see what they said. I really like this car and was prepared to stump up over £52k for it today…. If anyone can refute these figures or explain the 100 mile discrepancy in the range I would be appreciative ( I have photos of display at start middle and end of test to corroborate the range I achieved )

You asked whether whether "I" would consider a Ionic 5, EV6 or T-M3. Well, the first 2 are big cars, SUV and for a different market segment and are not equivalent to a T-M3 which is a sports saloon. I think the Korean manufactures have done a fantastic job of showing what EV should be and should look like - outclassing BMW, GM, Ford, VW by a long way. I would not buy one as they are just too big, but will likely consider replacing my T-M3 with something equivalent from Korea when they make smaller cars.

This is the model we all need to aim for. Much better would be fewer cars on the road; more sustainable, less traffic. If done properly it would be cheaper AND better. I have a car because where I live the single bus per day which only gives me 2 hours in the local town isn't compatible with working. I have an EV because it's more sustainable than an ICE car. I'd like practical and cheap public transport for day to day use and reliable rental on demand for the few occasions I need personal transport. It's seen as the poor man's choice, but if done properly it would be better than owning a car: you'd rarely have to drive (I enjoy driving, but commuting is dull), you'd never have to worry about maintenance, insurance or parking and if I only used a car for for 5% of journeys, surely I could have a car that costs 10 times as much... Porsche Taycan Grand Turismo instead of VW id4 for family holidays anyone?!

Unlike the reviewer, at 5'9" I found my head touched the roof regardless of seat position. The cruise control of the Skoda drove me mad, and I assume it is the same in all the VAG models. We’ve got an EV6 AWD GTS and there’s no doubt it’s a very good car. What let’s it down, and I wish car reviewers looked at it as part of the whole package, is the Kia Connect app. I’d also add that the profiles that you can use are also pointless. You can’t see any of the usage and efficiency data by user and if you’re different heights then the taller user needs to get used to getting in very close proximity to the steering wheel ever time they get in the car.

Trivial issue, but why do hardly any manufacturers give you a "frunk" big enough for charging cables? The only time I use them is on a road trip when the boot is most likely to be full. I don't want to unpack the boot so that I can charge. They didn't even have to think of it themselves; Tesla showed them the way.

In the RWD version the frunk / froot (front trunk / front boot) is big enough for the charge cable, unfortunately they shrink it's size due to the placement of the 2nd motor in the AWD version

AWD trumped extra range for us as well. Great to see Hyundai and KIA producing quality EVs to compete with Tesla, as opposed to the Euro marques that are just too damn expensive.

It’s a fine effort from Kia. When will journalists get their head round the use of “cheap” plastics. Door bins and glove boxes need to be robust, as well as keeping weight and cost down. EV,s are getting better value, but they are not cheap. Anything that can help with the cost to the buyer being kept down, is ok by me. Let’s hope you review this car as a year old purchase, and see what you conclude in respect to the competition and it’s track record then. Thank you for your review, and I hope you bring more of the same to this channel.

Reds, blues, yellows etc etc. Whilst, like many I was eager to see the Hyundai... and impressed with range, power & space. I immediately cancelled any thoughts of spending £50k on a car with dreadful paint options! The EV6 definitely gets my vote.

  • @genericuser2339

My answer to this, if you don’t mind, is build quality. Far superior in the Kia and I don’t just mean panel gaps. I’ve been in a model 3 and aside from the panel gaps the interior is cheap and nasty in my opinion which sucks given the price. Given that you have to live with a car I’d just feel disappointed every time I looked around the inside in a model 3. Not a fan of everything being on the screen either. Naturally this is just my opinion and the model 3 is fab in other areas but hey, you asked :). I think to truly make your mind up you have to test drive both to see which one ticks your boxes. I will say that Kia and Tesla both don’t lie when it comes to range etc whereas I see a lot of vids about other manufacturers where the range is not what they say. Nowhere close. So at least you’re thinking between two excellent brands in that respect, which is important. Best of luck.

Also it seems that the panel gap "issue" and early Fremont paint issues been solved in recent builds. Watch some of Sandy Munro's recent videos. That said, my Honda and Subaru both have panel gap issues if you care, but I just don't care much. My brothers Toyota is worse in that regard but he doesn't care either. ;-)

@@killerkhan there is a safety recall which requires owners of affected vehicles to limit charging to 90% as an interim measure designed to prevent HV battery fires, pending the affected vehicles receiving replacement HV batteries. Coverage has been like watching the clown fire brigade put out a fire; some owners, like me, were not told until we asked some 4 months after the letters were sent to some owners. I still am waiting formal communication that my vehicle is affected, it is not shown on the DVSA recall checker. It's all appallingly slap dash and very stressful for owners who might want or need to sell their vehicles.
