    I’ve had C3 coax in the rear, and C5’s in the front. The C5’s were utterly atrocious to tune, and the tweeter was WAY too loud on max attenuation. The C3’s sounded gorgeous and were super responsive to EQ adjustment. Very impressed. As these are down from the C7’s, are they as harsh?

Maybe active on a 900/5 with a 12W6. I'm still loving the C5-650 and 10W3 HO box that have been running trouble-free for 11yrs off a little XD500/3. One reason I've kept the same car all this time(along with it being an equally trouble-free Toyota) is that I still look forward to driving and listening every day.

    @@CarAudioFabrication At this point, since the car the system lives in is no longer covered under any warranty I have no reservations about doing some modifications, including sound deadening and a few others. *One question I do have is,* do you have a video on fabricating new install points for speakers? My idea is to have woofer, mids and tweeters all in front and leave the door woofers in the back the way they are, but the truck doesn't have spots for 3" speakers anywhere. I do realize that the C6 doesn't appear to have that size, but the design is still fluid rn. Thanks Mark!

    One thing that stood out to me when watching a JL Audio training video was that when running a passive crossover, it would take roughly 3x the power to reach clipping. Always run active to get the best clarity and it would require very little power. That would also explain why there power chart is such a wide range, bottom end for active and high end for passive crossovers

    I’ve got an entire custom system in my regular cab truck done about 10 years ago by a local stereo shop. They did an amazing job using Slash series amps 300/4 and 600/1 along with four JL C2 6x9 door/rear speakers and 3.25” dash along with two 10” w3 subs in custom fit sub box. It’s getting dated and I make much better money and would like to upgrade but C7s were just a little too pricey for my DD work truck. It’s looking like these might be a better choice for my needs. Thank you for the info Edit to add: I used DB Euphoria Xpert EX6NCD on my Harley Road Glide Ultra and love them! How would you consider these JLs would compare sound wise? I can’t afford to just change out speakers to see what they sound like and there are no local stores that carry most of these higher end speakers to listen to in person! I miss Curcuit City☹️ Last edit: I also have a car with a Harmon Kardon factory system in it that I want to upgrade but don’t trust myself or any local shops to do it without hacking up the wiring. • @blakebrockhaus347

    Iron core inductors don't impact the sound until the iron is magnetically saturated, which takes a LOT of power. Sand cast resistors don't actually exist as a term in manufacturing or engineering, that word was made up by con-men. If anybody uses it, I'd be VERY skeptical of any of their other claims. Active sounds better because you can use steeper crossover slopes and time align more accurately.

  • @AT-wl9yq

    Personally, I would just use them passive. However, passive xovers use a lot more of your amps power than active. With active, you can use a smaller amp, or even put the savings into a higher quality, smaller amp. Its really a judgement call on your part. Passives are also a plug and play install. You get a complete system and you know its all going to work properly.

    I am starting to look for replacement speakers for my 2022 Elantra N. I think I may never upgrade the power (its decent), But I am concerned about replacing the midbass 6.5" drivers. The stock "Bose" system actually has pretty decent (read heavy) bass signature. I don't want to get a set that will lower the amount of midbass/bass coming out of the front doors. Do you think this set would do well?

  • @jp1087

    @jp1087

    Ай бұрын

    Your stock Bose amp probably has preset non-adjustable crossover settings built in specifically for the stock speakers, and the resistance of the speakers & amps on some Bose systems is sometimes 2ohms or 8ohms, or even a combination. Some factory amps are even designed to reduce output on certain frequencies as you turn the volume up in order to prevent damage to the speakers. If you replace your speakers with aftermarkets and use your stock Bose amp to power them, you can play with the tuning on your head unit a little, but given that most are just "bass, mid, treble" settings, you don't really know what range of frequencies you are adjusting or what kind of power your new speakers are getting from the stock amp. And it may actually not sound as good as you would expect. When I replaced all of the mids/highs in my Yukon with a stock Bose system, I powered them with their own amp and kept the factory sub running on the factory amp. That way I was able to tune the overall sound better. The factory sub is more defined, and the mids/highs are more clear and full. I didn't get an aftermarket sub because I need all of my cargo space available. For you, I would suggest getting a small amp with built-in DSP to run your mids & highs if you replace them. Set your factory bass at what you like, then tune in your new mids/highs for a good balance. You may not be able to crank it because the amped mids/highs could easily overpower the factory sub, and it would eventually sound unbalanced, but at normal listening it would sound much better. What I've found is that if you're dropping good $$ for quality components and an amp, then it isn't too much of an add'l cost to add in a small sub since all of the legwork for amp wiring is already being done. At that point it's just an amp and sub. Or even a small powered sub.

Immediately noticeable. I haven't heard the factory Bose system, but if it's anything like other OEM "factory premium" upgrades in my opinion you're definitely going to get better results aftermarket. Remember proper installation is key (again watch that video I linked)

    @@jp1087 oh, for sure. I used to sell and install car audio back in the day and am quite familiar with what you are saying. I am actually fairly impressed with the stock system. Back in the day we used to say “if you ain’t got no highs and ain’t got no lows, then you must have Bose!” 😂 Having said this. I am now at the age where I still want some good SPL, but with improved quality. I replaced the stock “Infinity” speakers in my 2018 Elantra Sport Premium Package DCT with the current gen RS set of coaxials for the rear and center channel. And the components for the front. These were also 3 Ω so I get a tiny bit more from the factory amp. While they sounded leagues clearer and the treble much clearer and precise, overall, the system lost midbass as compared to the stock drivers… I also added a JBL Basspro Hub to the trunk. Once coupled in the spare tire well, it def added some punch. But still, overall the midbass isn’t there as before. But the rest is considerably better.

    You will 100 percent lose bass unless you add a real amplifier and a DSP of some kind....as a professional installer I get asked to do this often and after trying it a few times I will no longer entertain this unless they're going to upgrade the amplifier/DSP in the very near future

    @@AlexGtheDon And, the variation in "factory" systems from one manufacturer to the other is absolutely mind-boggling. Inherently, the GM stock Bose systems all suck and sound flat no matter what tweaks you make. That's why I upgraded my Yukon system.. But the stock Bose system in my Altima is a different story, it sounds amazing as-is; and the amp is 3x the size of the one in my Yukon even though both systems have the same amount of speakers and both cars were from the same year. I had a Hyundai minivan that had the 12-speaker Infinity surround sound system. That was awesome too for a stock system, very clear even though it lacked a little on the bass. DVD's is where it truly shined though.

So by definition these actually fall on the low end of "mid level" pricing when going purely by the numbers. Now that might not match what you personally view as low end vs high end pricing, but we aren't evaluating the cost of these based on your wallet or mine, everyone's definition of affordable is different. @MaxMax-sj7wb Every 5.25-6.5 has so much detail lost from the 150hz-3/4k range. That range (for the most part) requires a separate speaker to fully capture the details of that range. I had c3s. I decided to upgrade to 8s in the doors, tweeters and 4s in the A pillars. It’s the most surreal sound I’ve ever heard.

    @@kymanc161 Thank you for the advice. After seeing the pricing difference, I'm considering just buying a second set of C3s. I'd like to have four 6.5s in that zone instead of just two. especially now that I have broken in the C3s, and they sound fine-just too quiet at 75 watts. Now, I would be worried the C6 at 100 watts might also be. That would be very costly to have to double them.

    Wish JL would come out with an affordable 3" for these newer vehicles that have tweeters in the dash reflecting the glass. 1" tweeters are just way too bright in the dash.

    While I don't know for sure, I am fairly certain manufacturing location was already selected prior to the Garmin merger, these have likely been in the works for awhile. JL likes to make sure everything is perfect prior to release. In regards to overseas manufacturing you can't just assume every product made overseas is of poor quality, it comes down to the QA standards of the company. Good companies will go through the right processes to verify quality. And as of now a TON of JL's line is still made right here in the states. Just like not all stuff made in America has the best quality control. Truth be told most my made in America product has the worst QC. Don’t forget you’re paying a lot more just for that made in America tag. America manufacturing is not the greatest. Just look at everything that is made in America especially car manufacturing. America pays more now than ever for poor quality workers. Profit above all

  • @CarAudioFabrication

    @CarAudioFabrication

    Ай бұрын

    Not really, I just went on Crutchfield, I searched 6.5" component sets, and sorted by price. The range of available options across a wide variety of brands is from $60 - $5,500 for a 2 way component set. So by definition these actually fall on the low end of "mid level" pricing in that range. Now that might not match what you personally view as low end vs high end pricing, but we aren't evaluating the cost of these based on your wallet or mine, everyone's definition of affordable is different. We are defining them based on the range in the market.

    A thousand bucks is a lot of money for me. But Mark is correct about the market spread for comparable quality. The C3s were half the price but the sonic improvement of the C6s truly surprised me. So far, it has been worth the extra $500. We’ll see.
