@@cutlerylover The above comment is correct. NYSRPA v. Bruen just overturned the "justifiable need" requirement several states have been using to prevent average citizens from getting CCW permits. We have been fighting this battle in NJ for years, in the state has finally bent the knee after this case. Average people can now apply in NJ. I submitted my application a week ago- I will be one of the first to get a permit. There is no residency requirement either... I'm very familiar with the process and happy to answer any questions.

NJ laws are in dire need of correction in so many areas. In NJ if an intruder breaks into your home, you defend yourself, and the intruder is injured or killed - 8 times out of 10 the homeowner is more likely to get in trouble with the law then the intruder. It's absolute bs. Every state should be a stand your ground state in my opinion.

@Jen-kh2ge NJ law literally states, "New Jersey law prohibits the possession “without any explainable lawful purpose” of any “gravity knife, switchblade knife, dagger, dirk, stiletto, dangerous knife or ballistic knife.” Possession of a weapon in one’s home is arguably a “lawful purpose.” Pocket knives may be carried outside the home, except by one having unlawful intent or who possesses the knife for some unlawful purpose. Self-defense beyond the limits of one’s home is not a lawful purpose." The term "dangerous knife" is such a vague/grey area term, because literally any knife can be dangerous if the user has bad intentions🤔 So a prosecutor could argue that any knife you have is dangerous🤨 The term "Dangerous Knife needs to be removed from every NJ state Law!!!!

The worst part about New Jersey’s laws is that all weapons violations are felonies, including knives. If your traveling through that state, I’d be extremely cautious. Don’t bring a gun and if you’re carrying a knife make sure it’s a SAK or Leatherman and make sure you’re doing something like fishing or camping which normally fits the accepted “lawful purpose” standards.

I'm from New Jersey I've been here my whole life it's almost impossible to get a CCW permit here the only people that get them basically are people that work for armored truck services (i only know this bc my ex's father worked for an armored truck service and he got his CCW permit through them and it got immediately revoked as soon as he retired.) But from what I've been hearing since the concealed carry thing that went to Supreme Court for New York got overturned it's supposedly gonna make it easier To get a permit For an average person hopefully sooner than later.

That’s the grey area. Any illegal weapon would be considered legal if you used it in a justifiable self defense situation. If someone tries to shoot you, and you use an illegal knife on them chances are you won’t be charged. If someone tries to fist fight you, and you use a legal gun on them…. You will probably be charged even though the gun is legal. You have to pick and choose your self defense because you can become the attacker real easy if you use lethal force.

Thanks to SCOTUS, NJ now must allow ccw for all of its citizens, but this Governor is doing everything in his power to make it difficult some of the laws he recently passed are 1-must have three character reference letters, to be reviewed by a judge 2-have to take a training course 3- shooting score > 70% and some other odd ball laws as well like you can't walk on private property without the owners prior permission to do so with the firearm, and so on.. But he’s right, if your minding your business there’s no problem with cops randomly asking you what your carrying. But due to the potential fender bender, or random stop, I will not carry a knife that looks aggresive or big. Leave the modern folders and locking blades at home. The knives I carry are grandfatherly looking slip joints like Case sodbuster Jr., stockman, trappers, and a swiss army alox pioneer. If I’m fishing or hiking really close to home, I may carry my buck 110, or mini-griptillian.

Basically the law in NJ about knives says, "If you have a knife on you outside your home, and we catch you, we'll decide how much trouble you're in." In other words, they leave it wide open to charge you with a knife offense. A folding Swiss Army knife might not even escape their discretion.

Another piece of advice as someone who lives in NJ - never consent to a search of your vehicle. Be polite don't become argumentative, but if a cop asks "can I search your vehicle, do I have your permission to search the vehicle, do you mind if I take a look in the car" any variation of that "I'm sorry officer but I have to respectfully decline" no matter what they say after that keep repeating that statement. If they're asking to search the vehicle- they most likely don't have a reason/probable cause and giving them consent opens you up to trouble. They might wind up searching it anyway don't worry. Like he said in the video, if things start happening out of your control, don't resist, be respectful. But people need to know you have the right to decline permission to search your vehicle. This also applies to your home. Keep what you say to a minimum until you get a lawyer with you. I'm not stating any opinion on cops overall. There are so many amazing officers, and there are also bad officers. Know the laws where you live, your rights, and do not resist.

You ought to see Delaware...strange little state with strange laws. Moving from Texas to tiny little Delly (bordered by PA, NJ and MD) I did some study of the laws before I started brandishing stuff. The knife laws are really odd. Of course, as usual, balisongs, switchblades and gravity knives, as well as throwing stars are prohibited. You can carry a knife in your pocket (that counts as concealed) if the blade is 3 inches or less. You can carry anything bigger up to that "dangerous weapons" qualification as long as you open carry it. The gun laws are just as weird and stringent. You cannot use any archery, airsoft, paintball, airgun including BB (.177) gun or slingshot, within 100 yards of a permanent structure unless it's an archery club, paintball or airsoft field or controlled shooting range designated for such a purpose. By the strict letter of the law even Nerf guns are questionable. However, you can open carry a firearm with no problem. You can concealed carry, but it's hard to get that permit. So there's this bizarre thing where you can't use projectile guns and toys in public but you can openly carry a gun. You can carry a honking big knife like your vaquero, but it has to be where everyone can see it.

Gun charges carry five years. Also your story I’ve heard them to a woman came to jersey from Delaware she was charged with a ton of nonsense it all stuck she got 10 years. Jersey is horrible for gun owners. My dad finally got his jersey carry permit it took a ridiculous amount of time and almost impossible limit of getting proper paperwork. Jersey has no self defense laws my experience with New Jersey state police told me I’m not aloud to protect myself. In the state of New Jersey point blank you are 100% guilty unless you have enough money then you can do whatever you want.

With the NYSRPA v. Bruen decision, I actually wonder how that affects the "lawful purpose" clause. I'm not a lawyer, but in light of it, I believe that the possession laws are unenforceable because self-defense is a lawful purpose unto itself under the second amendment. So, you should expect a legal battle if caught with a non-firearm weapon that breaks the laws, but assuming you have a good lawyer, deep pockets, and a lot of time because you know NJ won't go down without kicking and screaming, you should eventually win to have the laws struck down and charges dismissed. Once such a case happens, NJ will be forced to either allow the permit-less carry of non-handgun weapons or regulate permits to carry them as they do with handguns under a shall-issue regime.

Forget about the 2nd amendment in NJ when it comes to law enforcement. I've lived here 43yrs my entire life. I've had 3 friends get traffic stopped and arrested for having pocket knives. You'll never get a concealed gun carry permit unless your best friend is a Judge or some corrupt politician. Good luck getting a handgun permit period as you'll need to wait forever and possibly explain yourself to your local chief of police and God forbid you mention self defense that's an instant disqualification. My friends who served for the military and saw combat can not even get handgun permits.

I can't believe that state laws supercede federal laws. I live in Podunk Indiana currently and even though I have had a gun license for years now...since last month they basically mean nothing because Indiana made carrying without license legal. All knives are legal in Indiana except ballistic knives which I think are illegal everywhere and for some stupid reason Chinese throwing stars😄 Anyways...a person without a felony or violent charge or psychological problems shouldn't be stopped from being given a gun license because of the second amendment😐 Self defense IS a good reason. And knife laws are completely ignorant. I had the pigs take my $150. Knife away in West Virginia when I was passing through😐 I'm fairly certain because the pig in general wanted it because he kept playing with it. I didn't argue , because I wasn't prepared to get arrested and be stuck in West Virginia overnight or a few days...whatever. But yeah....laws are designed to favor the police and government especially state laws and that should be stopped.

Awesome video, very informative. The crazy thing is that now in 2023 i've read that Ny & NYC state that legal knife carry is 4inches long and must be concealed, no open carry. But on top of that in Ny state the 4 inch blade is the same but it has to be a fixed blade no folder knife and, also not allowed to own folders or machetes or anything over the 4 inch mark at homeor kept at home inside where it is kept safe and away from harm and only used for personal use. Also compression locks on the knife are considered gravity knife which makes it illegal to carry, on top of that then it gets twisted and says all knives that locks is considered gravity knives. What is going on? I dont know, this is ludacris.Any knowledge on the subject for NY & Nyc knife laws in 2023? Thanks.

I think "dangerous" knife is a part of the law that includes behavior and/or action taken while in a possession of a knife. The other names are specific, and not allowed under any circumstance, but dangerous involves the activity you were engaged in while in possession of a knife. A penknife on a fishing trip is legal, but robbing a bank with one it might be considered a dangerous weapon no matter what kind it is.

With regards abiding by the laws: In theory, I would agree with you. But, having been assaulted in public (in the UK) about 18 months ago, and the police doing nothing beyond interviewing the person (because, despite the other person starting the altercation and head-butting me, when interviewed, they claimed 'self-defence' (in a situation which *they* initiated and escalated) my opinion was rather radically shifted by the awareness that I am my own First Responder, and now, I will never again allow myself to be in the situation of someone putting hands on me without them coming off worse for doing so. Given that laws are only followed by the law-abiding, automatically puts the law-abiding person at a disadvantage. I absolutely hate the fact that, living in the UK, I don't have the Constitution protecting my rights, namely, the right to 'be secure in my person', and 'the right to keep and bear arms'. As an American, you have those rights. Well, *everyone has* that right, but America has a Constitution protecting them... Whatever laws Jersey passes, they do not supersede the Constitution - the Constitution supersedes them. The second amendment clearly states 'shall not be infringed'. That, is about as clear, and as simple a statement as is possible. And, any kind of law which restricts or bans what weapons you may choose to carry to feel secure in your person, are an infringement of the second amendment, thus you are under no obligation to be bound by them. If that guy at the mall last week had not ignored the mall's policy and not had his gun with him, other people would have died. By exercising his second amendment right, regardless of what anti-gun screechers and lobbyists may say; he saved lives. Regardless what President Biden says, when the Constitution was written, anyone was able to own a cannon. One guy, who was in shipping, apparently wrote to Franklin or Jefferson (I forget which) and asked if he could arm his merchant ships with cannon in order to defend themselves against piracy. The answer (translated into the modern vernacular) 'Go for it, buddy!!!' So ignore President Biden on the topic, follow the Constitution... As you quite rightly said, as long as one conducts oneself in a reasonable manner, one is not going to be even noticed, let alone searched by police. Don't let fear of a state law, not only infringe upon your right to keep and bear arms, but also put you at a disadvantage to any lawbreaker, who will simply carry whatever they want regardless of how many laws are drafted. You have the Constitutional right to be secure, so Be Secure 👍👍👍👍 * [Edit to add] * Pocket clips: Never *EVER* use them. It is only a visible indication that you are carrying a blade. Just put it in your pocket. Better yet, remove the clip from the scale so you can't be tempted, or, carry a knife without a clip, such as a Swiss Army Knife. The great thing about Swiss Army Knives, in addition to no clip, they have other things on them besides the blade, so much easier to justify carrying one 'as a tool', than a mere blade...

A New Jersey CCW means three "reputable" people vouch that you have not lied on the form which is only accepted in triplicate and notarized then off to a third party to get fingerprinted and get four passport photos as the police don't do this anymore then you must pay 150 dollars for the first gun and 50 dollars for a second gun which would be the only guns that the license would cover. Then after all that you must take a training course of classes and a 50 round target test of which 10 misses means you failed start over .The same process needs to be repeated every two years forever. Easy Peasy we are finally free!

There is a saying... "Better to be Judged by 12 than carried by 6". Basically if you were illegally carrying and had to use it in self defense then its worth whatever the legal troubles are because you still have your life. Also the latest Bruen Supreme Court decision is destroying most of these draconian carry laws. In MD for example (just like Jersey), we are now Shall Issue. Still need to do a 16 hour course (which is incredibly expensive) but now you WILL get a permit just for self defense. No one wants to be a test case but the law is a lot more on "our" side than it used to be. Regardless of what you personally think of the last administration, you should at least be thankful for their Supreme Court selections because we are getting some historic 2A decisions...

Around the @12:05 mark your giving sort of false information...? Actual lawyers have posted on KZread about how " the law" measures "blade length" and not 1 lawyer has been able to get a prosecutor (the state) to give a clear legal answer on how a "blade" is measured. Some states will measure just the sharpened edge some states have said it's total length from the tip to where the blade metal ends past the pivot i:e you might have a 4inch sharpened edge but there is an additional 1/2 inch blade material in the handle and have prosecuted for an over length knife.... There's a prosecutor out there that will measure the full length of that fixed blade since there is no "hard stop" from sharpened edge to handle.

This isnt legal advice ;) Plus not a single lawyer making videos can 1st off prove their are a lawyer you just have to "believe them" as they dont show their credentials on video but then have to assume they have read all knife related court cases across the us for the last few decades, which is unreasonable they can only go by the cases they studied or were part of themsevles...one case showed a specific part of the knife to be the blade and thats completely wrong in an unrelated case of the same situation...people have been tried for the exact same thing and some found guilty and some found innocent just depends on the judge location everyone's m0od the person in question ect...Plus on many knives onmce the blade penetrates flesh it cna go way past the end of it and the handle can go inside the wound as well allowing the blade to penetrate further than its own length, which is something lese id argue if I was in court...so blade length is negatable unless the entire knifes length is less than the blade length allowed in that state...MOST knives being talked about in court are used by criminals or carried by someone committing a crime, its rare an innocent person has to defend their knife in court outside of a self defense case...and even then half the people, who use knives to defend themselves dont realize they are legally allowed to do it in that situation anyway...
