    Sugar/water/yeast. Air tight, hose it out. Lose the airstone, last thing yeast wants is disruption. Ntm it will only dilute your co2 with oxygen

    Enjoyed the video and made one of these for my room couple days ago; seems to be working well/getting better ppm than with an exhale bag. This method is much cheaper than replacing bags every 4-6 months (plus exhale bags seem to always be near the expiry date). I made a couple minor modifications as saw fit; - added check valves between pump and bucket - added a second smaller bottle with just water to act as a gas defuser which prevents unwanted gasses for passing into my room - shut off valve and check valve added between bucket and bottle - insulated the bucket for better heat retention; helped a lot to keep around 90 degrees with just a reptile heating pad under the bucket All in all great video!! Recommend this method if looking for a cheaper alternative for Co2. If have to replace exhale bag every 6 months this method should work out to less than half the cost.

    5 күн бұрын

    @leathan7 the tube leaving the bucket goes into a soda bottle 80% filled with water where it will come out of the tube submerged in water, rising to the top as bubbles then the pressure should push it up and out of the exit tube that's also through the cap of the soda bottle since that tube doesn't have a pump pushing air out of it and that tube shoots it down over the room. When it's rising in the bottle as bubbles the ethanol vapors dissolve into the water but not the co2.

  • @GanjajuanaMan

    @GanjajuanaMan

    4 жыл бұрын

    My heater is completely submersible & very small. It does go down into the mix, I cut the cord then made a small hole in the bucket near the top. Then fed the cord through, then sealed that with silicon, then I put my cord back together. An easier solution for a heater is to use an incubator heating pad. They have temperature controls on them. Just put the bucket on top of it. I recommend that instead of what I did. My heater stays in the bucket at all times because of this. My lid only has air hoses, one going in & one going out. • @BillWard420
    @BillWard4205 жыл бұрын

    The air pump is will hinder what you are trying to do. Yeast need a little oxygen to start reproducing at the start..Which can be done by vigorously stirring it before adding yeast.. After that, you DO NOT want any oxygen to enter the batch... The lack of oxygen is what causes it to slow reproduction and start working to convert the sugar into alcohol and C02 and other compounds.. Also the C02 will exit on it's own easily as it will build lots of pressure in the bucket.. You can test that by shaking a bottle of pop and opening it.. "Oxygen During fermentation, yeast has a couple of choices. If it has oxygen available to it, it will be able to reproduce quite rapidly (doubling every 3 hours). If there is only limited oxygen available, it will turn its task to producing ethanol and other products (about 1300 in all), like higher alcohols (sometimes called fusel oils), esters, organic acids, and carbonyl compounds. To get good initial growth of the yeasts, you want to have a bit of oxygen available - but you can do this simply by stirring the wash vigorously when disolving the sugar. Once you have added the yeast, it is critical to seal the container such that air cant get in, but you can still let the CO2 out, by using an airlock." Or airline in this case..

    I am actually wondering why the air pump and stone,?? I've been doing something similar for years using glas gallon jugs painted black with the caps loosened just enough that when pressure builds it expels the CO2. Light impedes the fermentation that's why they are painted. I put a gallon jug in each corner of the tent and they last around 30 days. The tent keeps them warm no need for mats but if in a basement and they are on the floor that would be a good idea. I actually make wine while providing my plants with CO2.

    Ok someone commented about bringing in fresh air via the pump and the subsequent dilution of the co2. Assuming the bucket is outside the tent why not place the pump inside the tent? Sure it will still be diluting to a degree but as gas is produced and co2 level rises in the enclosure the pump would be delivering elevated levels back to the bucket. In my feeble mind this reduces the dilution by an unknown amount but still reduced nonetheless.

    Without oxygen, you're creating an anaerobic reaction, creating a secondary by-product, ethanol. My best guess is that without the oxygen, the dangers of having ethanol fumes building could be harmful to breathe and to your plants, let alone a fire hazard.

    I set one of these up (thanks for sharing your great design!) and it worked great in the colder months, but when the tent heats up and I have to run the exhaust fan continuously, the CO2 levels drop from around 1000-1400 to 300-400, same level as the rest of the house. Anyone have any suggestions for how to troubleshoot this situation?

  • @ManofLetters

    best is can think is put you plants inbetween the exit and the co2. also try using LED lights to keep heat down if not already? i know these ideas are weak im in your same situation haha OR we could encourage people to burn more fossil fuels to get co2 levels back up to when the earth was slaying at co2 2000 ppm hahah

    @@ManofLetters thanks for the reply! I removed an HID and left the LEDs in my tent and now I'm able to pause the airflow periodically for several minutes without overheating the space. Helps a little :) Then I just added a 2nd 5-gallon CO2 bucket, which was a tight fit but it helped a lot.

    Don't see the need of the airpump. Isn't there an overpressure of the CO2 pushing it out of the bucket?

  • @1946shooter
    @1946shooter4 жыл бұрын

    I distill my own bourbon and run a hose from the water trap on the fermenter to the grow tent to make use the CO2 which is a byproduct of the distilling process. Be careful using the produced CO2 on seedlings as two of mine died. Not sure exactly why. The fermentation process and the distilling also attracts fungus gnats and those little bastards are no fun and are a real bugger to eradicate. If you’re interested in distilling then a guy called George has a KZread channel called Barley and Hops Brewing to further enlighten you. Stay safe from Australia during these crazy covid shit times!

    @@Real-Eyes_Realize_Real-Lies and we'll if it helps 4 plants in a 4x4 then 9 plants take up more room and those other 4 plants give off co2 them selves as well . Therefore 20 plants in a 4x4 would be great because they all give off co2 and your not going to produce so much co2 that your plabt are going to suck it all up and use it all up. It's about keeping what co2 you put in there In there that's the problem you end up with because it would have to be a air tight atmosphere and that sound easy but really isn't because you open it up to feed them to check on them to show your buddies your grow etc... 👍
