Saw a really cool interview with mark henry where he was taken back with how welcoming everyone in strong man was when he was at the first Arnold classic, he said he was use to treating everyone as his enemy and instead when he was there, they were cheering him on. My thoughts are most strong men are weight nerds and get super excited for people pushing the boundaries. So they are inclined to want everyone to excel in order to set the bar higher for themselves. But that's just my guess.

I think Brian’s stance hurts him in this event. Wide grip and stance reduces the amount of bend in the bar and makes the effective range of motion a lot higher. Look at Novikov’s form, very narrow grip and stance makes the bar bend as much as possible and the very end of the bar only barely comes off the ground. Interesting strategy.

@@GreatNeal85 I see, that makes sense thanks for that. Although having such a narrow stance must mean he uses less of his legs and more of his back which surely makes it harder to lift even if some of the weight is mitigated by the end tires taking longer to leave the ground. If I'm wrong I'd love to understand how it actually works.

Speed off the bottom is definitely a mistake with a very "whippy" bar like this. You want to take all the slack out of the bar first and then pull with max effort. A very narrow hand position is optimal too. The more narrow the stance the more the bar will bend. When all the whip is taken out of the bar it's now much higher up on the thighs and becomes more like a rack-pull.

Having a similar name will go against anything positive. Brian Shaw is without doubt one of the top 10 maybe even 5 to have ever been involved in strongman. It just seemed a little gimmicky and bias towards what Brian would be able to win, not to mention his own sponsors. This is super nice to watch. The visual quality is great, the post production editing makes it all so smooth and and makes sure you don't miss anything and it doesn't drag out forever (especially if there is an unexpected situation and the such). I like that we can see the commentators as they talk, also without having them permanently in a box on the screen in the corner where they''re too small to really see their facial expressions and stuff anyway. I also like how there's enough time to give a proper 2nd try at things. Also how the resetters are some pretty strong looking guys that don't have to struggle too much and can be of proper use if something goes wrong. I also prefer it without the crowd, and indoors. The environment seems more friendly and close, and more focused. Everyone there is in the know with strongman, which probably creates a cool atmosphere amongst each other. Indoors is nice for the cameras and the viewers as far as too much or too little lighting, and doesn't introduce annoying variables for competing, like wind. Also the temperature can be nicer and more consistent from yer to year. The ground surface can be more consistent and sometimes less slippery. etc. etc. I suppose the only thing I'm pondering, is if Brian is more likely to choose events and weights and "reps" that he is better at, just by virtue of that being more inline with what he thinks strongman should be (which is something I agree with. I think there's currently way too much stamina/endurance and speed involved with weights that should be heavier. So the less strong, smaller speedy guys have an advantage in those cases, oddly). Or maybe the specific events aren't/won't be in his hands, but rather, the people who decide this, would just follow a philosophy/guideline. I dunno the details, I wasn't paying enough attention over the course of this! OH! and the name, weight and event, etc. should pop up on the bottom left corner before every lift, for a little bit. If you watch Larry Wheels' videos, you'll see what I'm talking about. It really helps to keep up with what is happening, and it serves as a way to jump around in the video to find certain lifts again, rather than waiting for a commentator to say it. Also timestamps are hugely important (even if they're only external to the video).

It will once Shaw retires because I'm sure he'll put a ton of focus on it then. Arnold might even help him advertise it, who knows, competitive or not. He needs to broadcast it differently, go on JRE, and also have it take place further from the holidays, I mean plane tickets probably cost a ton more for competitors between Thanksgiving and Christmas, right? I don't think a strongman has even been on JRE, just bodybuilders. It'd be easy for him to get on there. But more advertising=more sponsors=more money. I think they'll have a lot more sponsor money next time. I'm not sure what the right date should be because the Arnold Classic is in February-March, but definitely have it in winter. Heck I guess it can't be January because of the new year..so I guess it's gotta be early December. haha But yeah, I like the way the competition is done, in a gym with the competitors and no spectators. An athlete family environment or PR environment. Different from WSM and the Arnold. But can it survive without ticket sales? Maybe that's what will change after COVID fucks off? I hope they don't change it.

He didn't just ask if Thor was strong. He asked if he was a "legit strongman" which shows you how little research he does on guests or their fields (if it's not MMA he is clueless). Because when he asked thay question Thor had already won his title, and had been on the podium 8 times.

This was an absolutely amazing set of lifts -- and it was a great production. Big props to all the competitors! And an absolutely fantastic job by Shaw Strength team and casters for smashing the record on best strongman footage.
