New House Life Safety Inspection - Smoke Alarms
Ғылым және технология
Yeah, that didn't quite go as I hoped. I'll be swapping these ASAP! Until then, I'm glad they are all detecting smoke, though I wish they all sounded off, and not just the one that's downstairs! More life safety inspections from this house coming soon!

evan, this is just the defect model just about every one of these style alarms were defective ones from the 70, 80, 90s etc are usually faster at detecting smoke than even the best modern ones from my own testing also in addition smoke alarms that need to be replaced every 10 years is just a gimmic developed by BRK electronics in 1997 with the release of the sa10yr and prior to that most smoke alarms could theoretically could last the half life of americium (about 455 years) or untill a hardware problem
2:46 thats one fuked up fire alarm 😂
Anybody remember when smoke alarms were always on continuous instead of Code 3? It might just be me
@JP3_C6Z
3 жыл бұрын
Yeah I definitely think the 4/6 and 5/6 piezos were more effective than code 3. Moreso, the old AC buzzers and DC squeelers were shrill and sure to wake you up. They never should’ve done away with them
@expgretaillegacy

Were they legally required to change it to code 3? Or was it just herd behavior?

Looks like the newer one's hardwire signals was not compatible with the older alarm, or the piezo horn burnt out. so you will need to buy another compatible Kidde alarm. We have replaced nearly perfectly working old FireX detectors that just turned 20 due to a possible bug crawling in one of them or dust build up. Now, they are being held on for a future project. I have seen alarms lasting as almost as 40 years still detecting smoke and sounding as it should.

@TheFirePanel

@@KevinLyons-gn7eu It was ripped out by the previous owner before we moved in. No clue what was there before. The heat detector isn't hooked up still, but we did install a Ring alarm system (the existing wiring was no good on the old system, I didn't have the time or energy to pull new lines) so now Z-Wave smoke/CO combo units are hooked up to the system and monitored for automatic dispatch.

Good video!
After rennovating a couple houses, there were about 18 or so of these that went to the dump along with the outdated ceiling fans, cabinets, carpet, etc
nice house man
this is a common problem with these smoke alarms.
The smoke alarms that u were testing i have in my house, one started dying when i made toast and when it went off it was a dead noise and i looked at it and saw it was going off thise smoke alarms are very old which cause them to easily die.
Is it okay to test your smoke detectors with smoke in a can? Will it eventually damage the sensors in the detectors or no?
Wow I have never seen smoke detectors act like that that is just crazy
We had these exact alarms. (The ones that did not work.) Ours still worked, but probably were close to failing. I replaced them with First Alert 3120b dual sensor.
I used to have these detectors in my house. Despite them being 20 years old, their horns still worked.
My grandmother that lives in leander has these in her house
Do you have an idea of some replacements?
These FireX AD smoke alarms are known to have the horns maulfunction. My Grandmother has ADC’s in her house that look exactly like these. I wonder if they even work although I wouldn’t be surprised if they didn’t work. I did tell her that she needed to get her smoke alarms replaced and that they should be replaced every 10 years
Cool video and I have these alarms in my house......... but hay at least I replaced the alarm in my room and in one of the hallway and the two are carbon monoxide.
2:26, you can hardly see it but there's an Edwards heat detector.

those sound code 3 *FAST AS HELL*
Weren't those detectors recalled for that very reason?
i had a neighbor that threw away like 5 of those and 5 of the 120 volt only ones. they left the battery in them so the battery ones went off all night. they are the identical model. one suggestion is take them apart and bend the prongs back up to the horn
i would get a honeywell/ademco vista security/fire alarm keypad system.
We have same smoke alarm and shock mine or sill loud and sill work
R.I.P smoke detecors
Those smoke alarms are 21 years old
The peizo inside the old alarms really sound broken.
I had some of those smoke alarms in my house and one of the bedroom smoke alarms wouldn’t make sounds
Why weren’t they replaced?
Do u still have those?
Time to replace the smoke detectors!
The sounder is broken and the battery is problay and the one down stairs is working
That’s not good...good thing you tested them... I also saw a heat detector at around halfway through the video too!

i have those too can u test my ones

These old FireX detectors need to be replaced right now. smoke detectors need to be replaced when they are 10 years old. these old firex detectors are just way too old to be installed. plus the broken horns on those makes those way too unsafe to be installed. it doesn't surprise me on the fact the horns on those are broken. because they're old.

But great Video tho
I like it but my mom hate
Those old firex ones are garbage

My smoke alarms drove me insane with chirping. Yes, I installed new 9v battery etc. In the end, I just cut the speaker wires. Job done. The best smoke detector is your fucking nose.
