New Hope PA in Bucks County || Join us for a Return Visit to this River Town on the Delaware River

We are back in New Hope, and this time, we are making it personal. If you haven’t seen our other New Hope video, you can watch it here: • New Hope, PA in Bucks ... In that video, we show you a lot of New Hope and all it has to offer. This time, we are taking you to some of our favorite places. We are also using a new phone in addition to our iPhone. The Pixel 5. Let us know what you think. And stay tuned because we’ve got one place listed that we haven’t taken advantage of the full eperience, but everyone else loves. We will tell you what that is.
Before we do that, make sure you hit the like button. If you aren’t a subscriber, subscribe and leave a comment so we can say hello to you personally. If you are a subscriber, leave a comment letting us know how long you’ve been a subscriber and how you think we are doing. Now, let’s get to New Hope.
As one of the most popular tourist locations in Pennsylvania, New Hope offers a variety of experiences that caters to every need. From covered bridges and trains to fine dining and dive bars. We are taking you to some of the places that are sure to satisfy.
Let’s start off with a return to J&P’s. As you know, we’ve had the best burger in town at J&P’s in Texas. If you don’t, check out that video here: • Exploring Texas | The ... Now we are going to a different J&P’s, John and Peter’s, where we will again have the best burger in town. But this J&P’s has so much more. Originally owned by friends John and Peter, this iconic location has hosted a variety of artists including the band Ween. It’s well known for live music and open mics which is where many great artists get their start. It’s also been called the best bar in Pennsylvania, see that link below.. If you don’t go here, you’re missing out.
Next we walk across the street to Havanah’s. This restaurant has a tendency to be popular with the younger crowd. With events like karaoke, pool tournaments, and DJ’s, we can see why. If you are a little older, like us, don’t worry, it’s still a great time. Plus the menu is delicious and varied. You have good options here. Make sure you check out their schedule of events so that you can take part in your favorite pastime.
Down the street and around the corner you will come to Karla’s. Hosting a monday night locals night menu to envy, this is a great place any day of the week. Because Karla’s is located right on the corner of Main and Mechanic, this is a convenient location to stop for a nice meal in between touring the town and shopping.
Of course you are going to be able to do things like get some great pizza, doughnuts, ice cream, and more. And the towpath is a great place to get a walk, or bike ride, in. Plus this town continues to improve while maintaining a historic feel. So make sure you plan you visit. The web site www.visitbuckscounty.com is a great place to find out more information about staying here.
One of the best places to go is the New Hope Railroad. This is the one thing on this list that we’ve not been able to do, however, it’s a big hit here. Make sure you go online to reserve your tickets because they go fast. This popular train is great for kids of all ages. A traditional ride takes you on an hour long round trip tour to Lahaska, PA. And they have special events for holidays, like the Christmas Train which includes Santa Clause. This particular train is one of the best Christmas experiences you can have.
One more thing we would like to point out before we go. There are many different things to do in New Hope. They have hotels, food, activities, parks and many more. We encourage everyone traveling here to be safe and courteous. It’s a classy town and you never know who you might run into.
We wanted to let everyone know that we are able to make these videos so well due to the use of a DJI Osmo stabilizer. And it was edited using Adobe Premier Pro on an HP Spectre laptop. We’ve provided links below to anyone interested in getting the Osmo or computer for themselves. These are great tools to help make any video better. We would also like to invite you to take a minute to look into using the Boondockers Welcome app. This has allowed us to travel to many locations across the US and save so much money by staying at other Boondockers Welcome members houses. Check it out for yourselves. We also recommend everyone in an RV to have the right safety gear, including a Trailer Aid. We have a link for that as well. Please be safe out there.

I was a resident of North-NJ and at 30 I first landed in New Hope, PA in 1972. Wow I with long hair, a beard wearing bell bottoms and driving a VW beetle fell in love with the place. It was full of hippie entrepreneurs tie-dying T-shirts, selling avant guarde art and handmade jewelry. I continued my visits up to the mid 1990s when I realized the town had turned into a playground for the middle aged Wall Street Capitalist elites looking to be cool.

Everyone wants what New Hope has. It has changed a lot over the years. Some good changes, some not so good. We still love it.

Do you two remember the Chez Odette's restaurant right as you drove into New Hope? You had to walk/drive over the canal to park. In 1968, I took my deceased father's wife there for her birthday as a treat. I used to drive up from Bristol or Levittown PA to go fishing on the canal towpath, which was accessible from the Chez Odette parking lot, and caught a 28-inch, carp (which I threw back in) on a four-pound test line, which took me an hour to land. That was about a few weeks before I got drafted into the Army, in 1969, and sent to serve in the lost, stupid, Vietnam War. I was warned about stepping on a mine and losing a leg, so I enlisted for three years to stay out of the infantry, although I ended up asking to be sent back to the war for a second tour because of my post-traumatic stress disorder from the first tour. ☹ I was homeless and backpacking along the Appalachian Trail, north of Harrisburg, PA, when I heard on my little transistor radio about Jessica Savitch's death, after her boyfriend accidentally backed on to the towpath and into the canal after exiting Chez Odette's restaurant. She and her boyfriend and dog died while stuck in the mud, upside down, in the vehicle. $8 Million Settlement Reached in Death of NBC Anchor Jessica Savitch PHILADELPHIA (AP) _ The NY Post executive Martin Fischbein, Jessica Savich, and her dog, died when the car in which they were riding plunged into a canal during a rainstorm. ″The settlement established the principle of equality of salary and longevity for women in television news,″ Arthur G. Raynes, a Philadelphia attorney who filed the lawsuit on behalf of Miss Savitch’s estate. Raynes declined to disclose terms of the settlement Wednesday, but KYW-TV in Philadelphia reported that the agreement totaled more than $8 million, equal to what Miss Savitch’s lifetime earnings would have been. A source close to the case confirmed the $8 million figure today to The Associated Press. The Philadelphia Daily News reported one lawyer said the New York Post, whose insurance covered the leased station wagon in which Miss Savitch died, paid $7 million of the settlement. Miss Savitch and Fischbein drowned Oct. 26, 1983. As they drove in rain and fog from the parking lot of a restaurant in New Hope, their car went off a towpath and fell into the Delaware Canal. Investigators said Fischbein, 34, mistakenly drove the car onto the towpath thinking it was an exit. The station wagon plunged 15 feet into the mud and shallow water of the canal, landing on its roof. The lawsuit was filed in 1984 against the restaurant, Chez Odette; Fischbein’s estate; the Department of Environmental Resources; John Nyari, whose family once owned the restaurant; News America Publishing Co., which publishes the New York Post and had leased the station wagon; and General Motors Corp., which built the vehicle. A lawyer said the defendants who will pay the Savitch estate under the settlement are the restaurant, the newspaper, the environmental department and Fischbein’s estate. Raynes said the lawsuit was filed on behalf of Miss Savitch’s mother, two sisters, seven friends and co-workers. The lawsuit was scheduled to go to trial in Philadelphia next week before Common Pleas Judge Bernard J. Goodheart. The judge approved the settlement. Miss Savitch had been with NBC since 1977. Fischbein was a vice president and assistant general manager for the Post and also served as personnel and circulation director.

We remember the hotel. It has since been replaced with a bigger one. They tried to preserve the history of the old building. That was a long undertaking. Thanks for sharing that story. Most visitors to the area don't know much about New Hope and the history there. Some going back to Hamilton's day.

Me and my wife are planning on visiting New hope Halloween weekend. We are planning on camping from Friday to Sunday, we have never been to New Hope so we’re not familiar with the area and would like if anyone knows of a good campground, we would like to be somewhat close to the town. I would also like to know what the town will be like, is everything shut down, anything special happening Halloween weekend, shops and restaurant recommendations would be great. - looking for recommendations.

There's plenty to do there. Some shops will start putting up Halloween decorations around this time of year, but not all of them. Washington Crossing is fairly close. Check the NJ side. Also check the Lambertville web site for their Halloween night events. That's usually where everyone in the area goes. Have fun, be safe, SQUEEZEtheDAY!!!

What are the best places to park in New Hope? Would you recommend staying at a hotel off the beaten path (say 15 min drive from downtown New Hope) or do you recommend staying in downtown New Hope to avoid parking issues?

There are a couple really great hotels right in town, or across the bridge in Lambertville. Stay in one of those and enjoy some of the night life. A couple of the bars will have live music and events most nights, so you will have a blast any time of the week. And then you won't have to worry about driving at the end of the day because you'll be close to where you're staying. Have fun and let us know how it was.

Parking is a challenge on the popular days and times in New Hope. However, there is parking just outside of town, and at the high school with a shuttle service to Bucks County Playhouse at the North end of the business district, so perfect point for walking. Check in with the playhouse for when this parking/shuttle is offered. I used it only once last summer and it went smoothly, but hard to know when it's operational. We often park south of the town a bit and walk in. We have to research if newer/better options have sprung up.
