The versatility aspect that you mention. Commuting, running errands, touring, hitting some lighter trails. This is what I wanted from my single bike and that's why I ended up with a Moustache Xroad 2 smart system. Does everything I want to do with my bike. This Gazelle bike is a really solid option! Glad to see you back!

I bought my mother's Gazelle Citizen 3 years ago. A great e-bike. She used it on holiday's in the mountain. It has a 'mountainbike' feel. I use it for my daily commute. No hills, but plenty of wind. Saves me two work weeks in commute time every year :)

I just did a testdrive with this bike yesterday, and I think I’m going to purchase it. However, I did find that the saddle was quite hard. A different saddle and suspension seatpost are necessary, in my opinion. Once again a fantastic video, Propel!

Soft saddles cause lazy bones when biking for ling periods of time. As someone who’s lived in The Netherlands for 20 years now i can confidently say that a stiff saddle is something to get used to, but once you do after about 3 months or so you’ll never want anything else and it’ll save you from back pain.

Nice bike, and I’m glad European brands are recognizing riders in the US want class 3 e-bikes. Could do without that proprietary stem though. Ones that feed cables and hoses through are more difficult to work with when you need to replace one. Looks more sleek, but at a price. Edit: I forgot to say it’s good seeing an ebike review from you again!

I have a gazelle c380+ ultimate, and the only thing I’d change is make it low step instead of mid step. Personally I’m never buying a bike without a belt again, it’s a total game changer. The one issue I have with gazelle bikes is that the rear rack is not MIK compatible, so you’ll need an adaptor for even first party accessories.

Rear racks are now MIK compatible. Great bikes. One odd thing I noticed, is that the Enviolo gear shifter has the little graphic display - I was told by my local bike shop that Gazelle had stopped fitting them as they were prone to breaking (the little plastic bit, not the shifter).

Low step add some slight wobble to the Ultimate. Also the Enviolo has much less gearing which is a problem on steep hills. I find those two points to be negatives to my C380.

I have a new 2024 Gazelle C380 Ultimate. Not the + version though. Because in the Netherlands speed pedelecs are basically threated the same way as mopeds/scooters. Mine IS stepthrough, has the suspension fork simular to this eclipse, and a very simular MIK HD rack aswell. I've got some ortliebs panniers mounted to them on the lower pannier bars. What i like about the ultimate is that the battery is mounted 180 degrees compared to the eclipse. So you can mount the bottom of the battery first, and then the top. The keyhole is at the top aswell, so it is easier to take the battery in and out, it's quite heavy so this makes a big diffrence imo. The c380 with the gates belt is a fantastic combo, my Ultimate has the new bosch performance line motor, with 75Nm. Also comes with the kiox 300 display like this eclipse. So far it has worked flawlessly. The only downside i found is that the frame does wobble a bit if you let go of the steering rack, and once you hit top assistance speed it's quite hard to go any faster. It is VERY consistant though, so its really easy to cruise at its top speed and stay there. Even with strong headwinds you leave everyone in the dust😂

Great looking bike. Looks very similar to my R&M Nevo with belt and variable assistance. I would be interested in a comparison (not that I am thinking of changing anytime soon). As an overweight 64 year old I love my bike and as I live in the hills in the UK could not consider a non assisted bike. A different note Good to see you releasing content again. I particularly like your considered approach to transport. Cars are not bad, but we do need to try to separate the two modes of transport infrastructure for cyclist safety. This is particularly difficult in the UK as we are a small island that we were largely built for horse transport. But is Holland can do it then so can we. Keep up the good work.

I've got a Rohloff for 4 years now with zero drivetrain costs since and 8000 miles. What would a similar derailleur eBike under load cost to keep up over 4 years?

Yes, I agree. I’ve got limited mobility in my right leg following a motorcycle accident back in ‘89. I currently use a non electric Brompton and because of the low stem I find it a seamless affair when dismounting. So when I placed an order for the low step model I was advised by the shopkeeper that I may struggle to get off the high step model. The low step model is really ugly and it’s a shame that Gazelle don’t do a mid step model which is the best of both worlds. Easier for disabled people like me to dismount and more appealing on the eye. Considering its eye watering price it’s a shame that customers don’t have a greater choice of frame sizes.
