    Top tips to catch Multi's from a tank covered in shells and hundreds of fry! Looks great but near impossible to catch them!!!

    The easiest way is to put the shell in a bucket with aquarium water, sit the shell on something tall and narrow in the bucket to raise the shell off the bottom of the bucket, like a rock or tall glass turned upside down. When the fish comes out of the shell they will generally go to the lowest point which is the bottom of the bucket. When that happens, quickly remove the shell, you can now catch the fish out of the bucket.

    @@JasonsCichlids I have. 75 gal planted community tank that either my black Calvis or my orange comps just had a spawn. All of the fry became food for the rest of the tank. Without much effort I've been able to breed neolopris brichardi selling off about 150 a year. Unfortunately I haven't been able to catch all of the brichardi, but it's promising seeing the Comps and Calvises breeding.. Thanks for the help.

    That's great that you're getting spawns in your community tank. But damn such a shame the fry got eaten. Time to get some more tanks mate 😁

    Nice to see you back. I have seen some of your older videos, I recently got a couple of black calvus and yellow compressiceps, they were sold as pairs but they were small so I am not sure. If you don't mind could you tell me how I could differentiate between males and females and around what size thanks for the help.

    Cheers mate, same here. Definitely give them a go! Colourful fish and funny little characters. I had one latch onto my hand the other day. I wanted to move him to another tank and I was simply able to close my hand and move him that way without a net. Nothing scares them that's for sure!

    Jason your fish look in pristine condition 👍🏽 Have you ever camera time-lapsed the shell moving❓Is it done by just sand removal or do the fish move the shell while inside the shell ..❓. I hope that's not a dumb question... Thanks for the update. 🐕 Is dog training going well ❓

  • @JasonsCichlids

    @JasonsCichlids

    Cheers mate! No I haven't done that but it is an interesting idea. Not a dumb question at all and it is cool to see them move the shells around as they see fit. Sometimes they grab the shell by its opening with their mouth and push. Other times they dig underneath the shell to shift it. I have also actually seen ocellatus Gold pick up small pieces of PVC that are laying on their side and stand the pieces up on their cut ends. They are pretty strong for their size

    Hi Jason. Do you find the Gold occelatus fry sensitive. I have a thriving group of these guys with a couple pairs formed and subsequently spawned but I'm finding it hard to raise the little guys. Any advice?

    At what age are you starting to lose them? Also what are you feeding them? They need a range of foods and not just baby brine shrimp when they are young. I learnt that lesson the hard way when I had my first spawns.

    @@JasonsCichlids The last spawn i lost most of them around 2 -3 weeks old. i was only feeding baby brine... the most strange loss was around 6 weeks old and any time the young were startled, either by me or a chasing adult fish, their mouths would open wide and they would roll upside down, Almost like heart failure. Have you ever had that? i lost 5 really nice young guys from this.
