I bought a Fender Performer Jazz Bass a week ago. April/2022. I love the looks The Retro 1960’s Style. I hate the pick ups. Way to noisy and the bridge to. Love the Tuners and Neck thickness. Typical Jazz neck. But After checking out the different pickups today. I’m going with the EMG X No Noise Jazz pick ups. They are the Best according to many luthiers around the World. I’m also up grading the bridge. To a Babicz bridge. Designed for the Fender Jazz & P Basses. The saddles are rolling saddles. And adjust greatly. I’m having the frets leveled and recrowned. Like I had done on my Geddy Japan model. Mad a world of difference. Then I should be happy for a while. Lol. I’ve decided this musician thing is a Sickness. To be buying a New Bass and about $3k in bass gear at 61.

How timely. Just had one in for a set up. Supplied from Fender with a (and I measured it) 6mm action at the 12th fret and 1.5mm of relief in the neck. As a bonus the truss rod didn't work. Maybe it was a one off, but should never have got through QC.

I just love the variety of beautiful colors Fender is using its on new basses, they are absolutely gorgeous. That goes so well with the crisp bright tones. What next Fender, what does the future hold? Has the industry considered how to get younger people interested into wanting to become musicians. New artist will increase sales to play the new beautiful instruments.

You Should still be able to get that "Jaco" tone even with the "Greasebucket" thingy. As I heard it, from Tony Bacon who just happened to be in the next Front Row Circle seat from me at the Colston Hall where he had just interviewed Jaco before the gig; that famous tone was a combination of the Tone pot wide open and Bass tone knob/slider Full Up on his Acoustic Bass Amps driven so hard that the 18" Cerwin Vega speakers cried in pain. Of course Jaco would vary his sound day to day but that was His answer when asked. When you look at the Acoustic 361 graphics that he used later, IIRC at Bristol he had both 360s and 361s (how many were spares I don't know) you see more low mids, but the bark is still mainly from power and attack. Both amp power And pulling hard. Good to see old Tony still wordsmithing away there. Signed me up for a couple of years free subscription to his magazine after the show. ;^) Nice one Tony...

Fender needs to separate the PJ and the pure P basses on their website, in order to get an American made pure P bass to you need to jump up to the American Professional. While I appreciate what Fender is trying to do with the PJ configured pup, I feel that if you're going to lay down the FUNK the only true way is with a "pure" P bass.
