Been in a similar situation trying to evacuate my former hometown here in Alberta this summer when it went up in flames. Thankfully only one structure was lost in my town and nobody died but I get the sense of panic and helplessness while stuck in traffic as flames get closer and closer. It look us 5 hours to make it out with 2.5 of those stuck in gridlock bumper to bumper, but we got out. I feel for each and everyone affected by this and every other similar tragedy this year... Lots of learn from these incidents...

I am so angry, shocked there are no words. Keep these victims in our prayers.

we need to keep asking questions. They haven't even come up with an accurate death count much less what caused the fires and why only certain areas caught fire. This is a US state and we the people deserve answers. Let's not move on to what's happening in Israel.

What an absolute tragedy!!! Honestly .... the survivors should sue the city and the entire island and use the money to rebuild Lahaina the old way.

How is BLOCKING EVACUATION ROUTES NOT AN ARRESTING OFFENSE!?

As a mainlander that moved to Hawaii to work for about 5 years, the level of nepotism, cronyism, and incompetence at some of the higher levels of government is mind boggling, made worse by the complacency and possibly ignorance of the general populace with too much faith in their government. This culture is pervasive into many local businesses. This is so unfortunate as I found it a wonderful place to live with some of the friendliest local people with amazing food and culture.

This is a CRIME, this is MURDER, prosecute the officials! Can you imagine being stuck with young children and there's no way OUT! I'm just sick thinking about those precious souls who suffered so badly and didn't make it. And mark my words, this WAS A CRIME! Love you Lahaina! The world is watching!🌈🌈🌈❤️❤️❤️

Agree. I’ve been thinking it’s a conspiracy. That officials were contacted by corporations and offered big money to buy up the land to build. Some officials refused, so someone started a fire to destroy everything so they can build.

In a life and death situation why on earth would you listen to someone who sends you back into the death zone

My friend in Waihikuli did not get an alarm till 8pm that day. Horrible!
