New Epson ET8550 Printer for my Small Art Business, Printer setup and First Impressions

Ойын-сауық

Hello there,
Well i did it, I bought a new printer. It was a case of having too in the end. I spent a long time researching printers, to the point where I most definitely suffered with overload of information but I finally made my decision and am now sharing it with you.
In this video you will join Me as I set the printer up, step by step and when all that is done, I make my first print on it. If you are interested in what my first impressions and thoughts are with regards this particular printer then please watch the video. It was quite the investment, so needless to say, I was a little nervous awaiting the first print!
I hope you enjoy and I'll see you in the next one.
Justine

Thank you, I’m glad you liked it and found it helpful. It’s a great printer but printing on anything above 280gsm is a bit more complicated I’ve discovered. I have done another video about it so hopefully I’ll get that uploaded soon :-)

As an experienced photographer and printer, I can assure you that you made a good decision to purchase the ET8550 for your business, it is the most economical 6 ink printer on the market! I own 3 printers, 2 of which are like yours A3+ 13”x19” print size, & 1 A4 printer, I will be replacing my old canon A3+ printer for the ET8550, simply because it uses bottled ink which is way cheaper than Rip off cartridges! Well done setting up your new printer honey, enjoy making prints ❤

Thank you. I’ve recently topped up all my inks. I have only just discovered that the Standard setting prints very well too so although I’ll continue using the high setting for all my prints, I think there’s no reason why I can’t print my stickers with the standard setting which will also make the ink last longer. Thank you for leaving a comment :-)

I'm jealous! I bought mine a year ago, love it! but mine is white, they didn't have black. lol I absolutely love mine. The colors are amazing, and prints look amazing when the software is adjusted correctly. I use Photoshop to print mine and I do allow the printer to manage the color and save all mine in tiff or png. I usually don't sub a lot of people, but the ending made me so happy. To see the care you take to package your items, SUBBED! Thank you for the video!

Hi Ellie, yes I’m very happy with it so far, just the one slightly annoying issue I’ve found is when printing on a heavier cardstock but now I’m getting quicker at removing the roller thing at the back, it’s not such a pain. The print quality is very good and it’s looking like it’s going to be very economical too which is fab!

Exactly my reaction, too, when I first printed with my ET 8550. "WOW!" I've had probably a dozen Epsons over the years, including a 42" Stylus Pro 9800. This new one is my fave by far. I used a loupe to choose the alignment patterns. They are hard to see. Cheers from Western Canada.

I’ve printed many more since then and the quality has been fantastic each time. I had an SC P600 before this printer which was also a great printer but I do prefer the prints from the ET8550, they seem crisper too. I was unsure how they would compare being that I’ve moved to dye based ink instead of pigment ink but I’ve been very impressed. Thanks for the comment :-)

I purchased one of these a week ago. Wish I had seen your video before setting up. Agree with the fiddly print alignment setup is hard to read. All good so far. I replaced my R2880 which was lost in last year's floods. Looks to be much more economical. Included A4 scanner is a bonus. Cheers from Australia.

Hello Bruce and hello from a sunny Devon. It was so hard to read, I’m glad it wasn’t just Me!!! I had the Epson SC P600 before which was a great printer but it always gave me problems of one kind or another so I’m really hoping I don’t get any dramas with this one, although I think the odd drama is inevitable with printers unfortunately. So far I’ve found the print quality of my new printer to be fantastic, the only issue I’ve had so far is when printing on cardstock over 280gsm but other then that, so far so good!!

Hey Justine! I'm having problems printing my art prints from the ET 8550 and wondered if you'd experienced it at all since you did this video.. My artwork is printed and doesn't look like it does in my Photoshop/Illustrator file. The colours have shifted a little but look really saturated! I've picked 'Epson matte' paper in the print settings and also made sure that 'photosho/illustrator manages colour' but it's still doing it. I've spent hours running different prints through and I'm no better off. It's driving me nuts! Any advice would be really appreciated! Thank you!

Hi Sarah, I don’t actually use photoshop, I use the Affinity Software and I haven’t had any problems as yet, although I do always adjust the brightness when I upload my artwork into it. I used to use photoshop and like you, spent so much time adjusting the saturation and brightness to get my artwork to print in the actual colours I painted it in and wasted so much paper, that was when I used my old printer though. I do save everything in RGB and make sure my Affinity software is set to RGB too so I’m not sure if photoshop maybe converts everything to CMYK which might explain the difference in colour. I do also let my printer manage the colour so again I don’t know if that could help!! I do feel you’re frustration though, I definitely did suffer that same problem once and my only solution was to keep adjusting everything until it printed how I wanted it but unfortunately I had to go through this same process every single time. Maybe have a look at the Affinity Software. I’m not saying it would solve all your problems but I thinks it’s fantastic. I literally only used to use photoshop for the basics which Affinity does just as well for Me and it’s not expensive at all in comparison. I’m not sure if you can get a free trial but they definitely do deals every now and then of up to 50 per cent off. I think I paid £49 for it and that’s it, just that one of cost, no monthly subscriptions. Sorry I can’t be more help and good luck, I hope you manage to find a solution:-)

Hi Can you tell me what type of paper you are printing on? I just set up my ET -8550 printer today and I am not having a good experience as my art is coming out very flat and blurry more than a bit... my old printer was much better so if its the paper then I wont feel like sending it back. Thank you!

Hi Katherine, yes of course. i use an Archival Matt Paper 230gsm by Marrutt for all of my art prints and the printer prints beautifully onto that paper through the rear paper feeder on the top of the machine. For the cards, which is a newish project for Me, I've used a 260gsm gloss photo paper by Photo Paper Direct and although the print comes out well, thats the one that gets the roller marks unless I feed it through the rear paper feeder slot at the back of the machine. I also have a 300gsm card I've used but there isnt a label on it and I can't remember where I got it. I haven't, touch wood, had any problems with blurriness, the actual print quality has been very good. Sorry I can't help more then that. I hope you manage to resolve it :-)

I bough this printer a week ago and after 3-4 prints the printer stopped printing and got a message that paper was jammed: which it wasn’t ( paper was not bent) I shut it off a few times and didn’t see any broken paper or particles inside. I spent 3 hours tryin to understand, the paper would just stop printing and would maker a rough noise( nothing was inside). I just returned the printer and I am waiting for a New one……very strange.
