Today we are installing the last of the trim cables needed to control the flight surfaces of the free abandoned airplane. After receiving them in the mail we decided to jump right in and get them installed. So with only a few small adjustments left to do, all the trim components will be fully functional!

Better help is way too controversial. I’m surprised you took them as a sponsor.

Yeah, probably a good idea to look a little further into betterhelp before taking sponsorship from them. They're quite well known to be problematic in sharing patient data and also not necessarily vetting their "therapists" to see whether or not they are licensed, betterhelp say that's up to the consumer to determine.

hi, for future reference i wouldnt have betterhelp as a sponsor :) theyre pretty shady with selling users' sesitive data and the "therapists" arent qualified in any way. just fyi :)
Great video Jason and Joe! Lots of blood, sweat and tears going into this old bird. It really shows how much you all care about this project and obviously Sam's memory. It is really starting to come together and the light at the end of the tunnel is really starting to show itself. Stay safe in all you do!

It means a lot to have your support Brother. Thank you for being apart of the journey 👍🏻
Good morning guys! Great to see another new 401 video.
My experience rewiring restored cars is to run the longest wire first. This way you don’t struggle around existing wires and the shorter ones get guided by those already in place.
Great to see how close the Phoenix is coming to flight again. So much work has been done, you must be gassed, at least we know Joe was. Happy Mother's Day to all the moms out there; we wouldn't be here without you.
Note to aircraft designers: Make the access holes to critical control component larger so guys and gals can get their hands inside to work on stuff without struggling.

They probably would like to as it would lower weight but they need a certain amount of structure for the airframe to work as intended. The smaller the plane - the less room the designers have to work with as well.
I've been watching since the will it start video.. I've never missed a video.. even though I can't support you with money I watch every week and I'm with you guys... I love the channel and thank you for making my Saturday morning great 😃
Man I'm so excited for this project, I had to leave for 2 years and was unable to watch. So glad to be back

Welldone @JASON and @JOE, you guys are a great inspiration to everyone. I've been watching you from the beginning of the 401 build. You don't need this - but good luck and keep up the great work. 🥊 🥊 🥊 👍 👍 👍
Is there a supervising AP that signs off on the work?
Well, I am definitely repurposing the term "drop a nut"! Thanks for all your hard work and dedication to these projects man.

Jason and Joe, you guys have a Great work ethic and the patience of Job. Love RR and look forward every week to a new video, whether the 401 or any other of the plane project you guys have going on. Keep up the awesome work! The Phoenix will soar soon and she will be something that y'all will be proud of and she will be used for some Awesome Missions.
If not mistaken when Joe called nose down on the downward trim tab would actually make elevator go up, the tail down, and then nose up to climb. I enjoy watching these videos and keep up the great work.

I watched this a couple of more times and the guy watching the trim tab was wrong by the way the guy in front was turning the trim wheel in the cockpit so, with that being said maybe the voice didn't match the video when they edited it. In other words, He was spinning the trim wheel up when the when the trim tab was going down like it should have putting the elevator in the nose up position. So it must of been a editing voice error.
@stevenholliday8873

Yes your correct. I was going to say same thing. When we do trim tab the person in cockpit call up or down. Person at the tab verifies motion is correct. Since Jason wasn't calling direction and Joe was calling direction of movement of Tab not direction of what action Tab causes the elevator to go, I would say the team needs to work on their communication. But as said in video they are going to have experts rig plane.
Can’t wait to see the 401 fly again
You guys know that the trim tab counteracts with the rudder, right? When the trim tab of an elevator goes down, the nose comes up. Function looks right, his answer "Nose down" was just off!😉
"You're a better man than me Gunga Din." The work you do seems to me like trying to organize a bowl full of spaghetti. You're doing it! It is impressive.

The original factory workers never intended for the spaghetti and insane wiring to be taken apart and replaced all over again. It was a coffin of deadly parts ready to wrong at anytime but just good enough to make through an annual.
The 401 is moving right along! Nice work. I know it feels really great to get those super tedious details knocked out. Happy Saturday!

Your dedication throughout this journey means a lot Brother!
I hope it was an editing thing. But he sure the trim is right. Nose down, that trim tab trailing edge should be up. Rigging trim backwards is a very common mistake.
Love the 401 project! Can’t wait to see it becoming a functional airplane again!!
The comments freaked me out for a brief moment when Jo was calling nose down and the trim tab was pointing down, which is nose up. but watched again and saw the direction of the trim wheel... All good.
Unless I missed something, when Joe said nose down you were activating the trim wheel for trim up. Was that just the way it was edited? Love the channel.
One more project completed, one step closer to flight! Keep on plugging guys.
Piece by piece she's coming together, destined for great things.
You guys are stronger than me. Kneeling on those beams would destroy my knees lol
Seeing parts moving by using the controls seems like the plane is finally comming to life! I'll probably come from Brazil to the Oshcosh you guys will present it, just to give you guys a hug!
It's Saturday again with some 401 awesomeness. Can't wait to get home and watch the episode!
"and i only lost half the skin on my arms" that and bucking thousands of rivets are why i'm not cut out for aircraft maintenance. kudos to y'all
Make sure to spray those cables down with LPS 3. It’ll keep em lubricated and prevent corrosion
Great to see the work on the 401 moving forward. Don’t get me wrong I love the work on the other projects but the 401 has a different sort of connection to me.
My gosh so vested in seeing this bird flying again!
if you tie string to the old cable as you pull them out, you can pull the new one in a lot easier

Gee and I thought y’all were going to put an elevator in the building 😢😢😢😢 Loved the joke Joe something Sam would’ve done. Right on Par bud … 😂 great work as always guys . 🤠🎸🎶🇺🇸🫡
Awsome job guys.Thankyou for your love & attention to detail with this old bird & Sams vision to see it fly again.Got my cessna 401 plane tag from you guys so awsome !Look forward to more 401 content coming!Hi from Fielding New Zealand.
Tedious work, but it is paying off. The Phoenix will rise again!
Great job, Jason and Joe👍

26:45 "If everything is right, this trim tab is going to work, and it's going to work in the right direction." ... "Nose down." (and the shot of the tab has it moving down.) While it's probably just editing, that is the WRONG direction for the tab. :) If the tab moves down, it pushes the elevator up, which pushes the tail down, which is nose UP trim. :D

You two are amazing. I am impressed!!!! Thanks for bringing me along for the adventure
You don’t need cable just put all servo motors just like a model airplane clean install😂🤙
It looks like is running backward. I strongly advise you to check it once more...
Great job today guy's, one more thing finished and one step further finishing up. I can't wait to see how beautiful this plane is gonna be when she's finished and flying for the first time in so long. Take care guy's and I'll see you on your next video. 👍
small wins until it flies! Thank you Jason for leading and inspiring many of us to never ever ever....ever give up. PS: how is the arm tendon doing?
Thank you for the video.

Joe, please teach Jason how to bend a cotter pin. The two he put in the actuator rod look like he's working on a John Deere, not a secondary flight control on an airplane.

great work on such a maticulas and exact install . great video. thanks for posting
Thanks for another 401 video. Caught the Sam stencil on the side quickly.
Thanks for the post. This really peaked my interest. It is so clean and shows the work the professionalism and all. You got a bravo from me. Outstanding job and transformation is showing.
You guys stopped saying pulley like Pennsylvanians! Also, every time Jason says fuselage, I hear the word in my head the way he used to say it LOL!

Love the channel, love the 401 project. That’s the only reason really. Got hooked waiting to see if it would start! A lot of other not so interesting projects though. Maybe those projects should be on another channel. That maybe why viewership has dropped off. At the core it has to be the 401 and enough progress each episode to keep me coming back to see “if it will start”. You get what I mean! Anyway, I’ll still be watching, love you guys and what you’re doing!
It wasn't shown but I hope there's a cotter pin or safety wire on the nuts and bolts for those pulleys.
I'm not a tall person. I've got opportunities in the aviation industry galore that I've never thought of. For example, fitting inside the 401's tail. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Awesome!! Great work guys.

Glad to see y’all back working on the plane again. Jason all we really want is just a little update each week just so we as viewers can keep up if you remember how excited you were when you started working on plane well you see almost every day we only see it in your videos and if you don’t tell us we don’t know what you know do enjoy the project and I know you have have some problems and other things but just keep plugging away.
When you were showing the trim in operation you were saying nose down, however, the video (26:54) was showing the trim tab going down, which is actually nose up. I hope this was just the video and voice out of sync and not the trim hooked up backwards.
Great video .jason very usefull thank you for share it.👍👍👍
Nice work.
Keeping or finding the motivation is sometimes as hard as the task at hand. Once completed, you realize the juice was worth the squeeze and you find it easier and easier to get back on track.
Nice steam blaster, that is a sweet piece to have in the shop.
Brilliant stuff here -Love from Sydney aviators today.
I sure hope you used a T.E.C. Sharpie! Otherwise you may have compromised the cable! Please do check with the cable provider if it may be a possible problem!
What a pain in the behind this job (cable) must be. I would wage a healthy sum that the OEM mechanics had specialized tools for this job.
Nice job guys, it doesn’t sound real smooth yet, but I’m it will soon.👍
I gotta say, the military grey looks good on the 401, I know it’s a type of primer but it looks…. Badass
Trim tab down = nose up since it's forcing elevator deflection up.
Yall need to learn how to use, snake wire, or fish tape. You could use string also. Really makes chasing cables simple and easy.
Love it
Seeing the condition of the 401 in the background, you would think you were a Manufacturer with OE craft in the floor👍
Man it looks like at least one more year to finish this plane but so far great job !
I hope those few that complain when there’s not a 401 video paid attention to how long it takes to get parts for this.
Good to see the progress. How is the yacht going, it has been 10 months now. video soon?
Wish I was there awesome guys love the show
Wow
Great job Jeff, I respectfully disagree with you leaving those nails sticking up especially on the top of the footboard. Be sure to post a video when bedding gets ripped or someone gets cut. Love you folks.
Such a good video i have watched every video you made❤

Guys, a piece of plywood, 2'X3' or 4' will make it easy on your knees inside the fuselage! You can add the foam on top and staple it with cheap vinyl. Just saying!!!
Where did the rest of the crew go? Love watching these videos.
Here we go again. At least now you’ve got some DAM exhaust lube for when you have to get into that tail. 🤭
Such lot of work for every part! But it will pay off eventually.🆒😎💪!
I noticed you marked the control cables with markers, some inks contain chemicals which are corrosive to steel cables but I'm sure you checked that before using it.

@@rebuildrescue I knew you guys wouldn't let me down. Super impressed now the Phoenix is being reassembled, great work.
This video (apart from being super interesting) illustrates one of the reasons why the aviation industry was so motivated toward introducing fly by wire to modern aircraft.
@Digital-Dan
20 күн бұрын
Oh, indeed. In fact, ever since the engine fell off the DC-10 and took out all the controls I have thought that the right approach would be for the primary system to be wireless, with wired backups and enough redundancy and consistency checking to make it work. Batteries could be in the loop to avoid major problems if power systems fail. I don't expect many to agree.
DAM good stuff
Have you decided on what auto pilot system you are going with? Good planning minimizes duplication of labor on installations
Love the video Jason. Iv been invested since you guys found the 401. Cant wait to see it finished. Love all you guys. Im coming on a trip to the states in october. Would love to swing by and say hi to you and the team. Love you brother

Finally, a 401 video. That's why I watch
I saw that the other Cherokee is for sale. The Maroon one.
After you finish this 401 plane will you find another plane like the 401 to fix up
The 401 rebuild has been 2 years now. Is there a new target completion date?
