Duster segment first, then no update, no 2nd gen, no 3 Rd gen and gone Kwid segment first, then the same story Triber segment first, the no engine upgrade, going to complete 5 years in August - September now and the same story continues... Renault is just not working on the major upgrades and moving to something next... Same mistake for so long.
Renault was the first company to introduce the small suv with duster. They could hv dominated the space had they took india seriously by giving more features. Look how Hyundai captured with creta although duster was a better car than creta. But if you does to see, none of the international brands have taken india too seriously till now. Kia, hyundai, nissan, renault, toyota all has some fantastic model which are intentionally available but they are not launching them in india. Thats why great regards for mahindra and tata, they are coming up with some really VFM cars in india. Kudos to them

Atleast Kia and Hyundai are trying/tried to launch their international portfolio.

Well I really think VW did great with India 2.0 by giving skoda the leadership to lead projects in India... This led to skoda building Indian specific 5 star platform which got us kushaq, slavia(which saved sedan segment due to which we got new city and now verna), taigun, virtus and upcoming 4m car from skoda... This upcoming 4m car from skoda will be 3rd car in this segment to get 5star after nexon and xuv 300 and first international brand to give 5 star quality in 4m segment... This is huge win for skoda... I know many are upset with superb being fully imported model and priced at 55 lakh... But India specific is huge hit... They just need to keep on adding features which skoda official openly said is the goal going forward... Bring in panaromic sunroof, Adas, 360 camera and they can push these India specific cars for next 10 years without bringing major change...
I'm a kiger owner and I must say that it ticks all my needs within the budget. When I bought this many people in our town don't know about Kiger.I think Renault/Nissan should promote their products in rural markets where first time buyers will surely go for their budget friendly cars.
They should focus on 8L to 14L price band 1) Car for youth 2) Mix car ( Mpv+SUV) FAMILY + Some fun. Pls conduct more drives in cities.. Take your car around let customers feel the product.. Triber should be placed in Goa beaches or on hills... Show the strength of the product first hand to the customer. And pls get a turbo for triber. 🙏😊 I hope Renault guys are listening.
Had the duster first month of launch and what a vehicle it was when others were struggling to get a rough suv and slick in city. 7 yrs had to sell and Renault just had dropped the ball by then. Hope they come back still
Bought a Kwid & a Celerio 6/7 years back now both replaced with two new Kwids based on the vehicles everyday performance, service centre experience & warranty support. Very happy that we have weaned ourselves out of the Maruti cesspool.
Finally a podcast that does a deep dive into our auto industry! Looking forward to future episodes. Would appreciate if this is rolled out on apple podcasts as well.
Thanks for the informative podcast as usual. Recent sales data for the EU shows a significant decline in the market share of estate cars. So much so that Mercedes Benz have plans to exit the estate car market in the short to medium term. The suv market segment in the EU is currently doing well.
The duster will never come. People should stop talking about it. It's always the hype and buzz, but the product never arrives.
Great discussion to hear. Made my Sunday morning. Thanks..!!
What's the background music at the start of the video guys ?
1.2L Triber is a dream car for many many middle class families in India. Renault should give it a thought seriously.
Renault could have given Tiber 1.0L turbo engine.Renault needs to lot of work on its product portfolio and launch new products to be successful in India.
If existed, Fluence could have given competition to vw virtus, pulse to Swift, duster to creta. They tried to take on everyone, which never works in India
There has been no word on the entry level budget 7-seater MPV of Nissan based on the Triber. I work just opposite the Renault-Nissan factory in Chennai but haven't spotted any test mules. Only seen the Magnite Facelift until now. Is the Nissan Triber-derivative coming, or has it been shelved? No news of it lately...
What about other products like Nissan Altima Premium Sedan Car , Nissan Note e-Power Hybrid Premium Hatchback Car which is highest demand in global market.
When mounted ev motors for rear wheel and front wheel being driven by engine could be most chief and best hybrids
When Hormazd speaks it's a serious game altogether. One of my favourite auto journalist. 👍
Looks + milage + decent power + low cost of maintenance = successful product
I have been asking this question for a while now ! Can Autocar India please answer or ask this question to manufacturers. WHY INDIAN CAR MAKERS WON'T/DON'T MAKE RWD CARS ? why is there so much hesitation towards RWD cars ??
You are very right in identifying the customer trend. HYBRID is the way to go till we have good EV infrastructure available in India. Even US is not able to crack on EV space yet with the kind of infrastructure they have. I hope you agree with me.
Will Nissan bring the Infinity to India?
biggest problem is 1. service 2. not updating cars 3. demand of indian customer 4. not increasing products.
First here... Yipeeee... Being a Koleos owner, can't wait for more dusters, koleoses, patrols etc😊
Without Diesel engine plz don't launch duster in India it will a fail product for sure
Need to work on the interiors and regular consistent timely facelifts to keep the models relevant.
You guys took Kwid to Paris so I never question it's ability to handle stress
the game changer for suv segment in India I think was ford with its mini SUV ecosports this shook the sement then soon everyone started their story, duster being great suspension for Indian roads was a cheap looking car, now again Nissan has better chance to bounce back
I think Nissan here has a competitive edge, looking at their global product portfolio, designed its fascinating.Only small brand will grow exponentially and 10 years from now I can see Nissan on a whole new level.
Yes if they decide to invest and create infrastructure they are all ocer the world quite successful
the Nissan Magnite is quite a beautiful car. I just wish they paid a bit more attention to the ride quality and interiors, like they did with the exterior. The car looks amazing from the outside, but rattles inside. Nissan has a lot of work cut out for them, and hope they improve soon.
Mitsubishi has Phev technology and they need to think of getting Mitsubishi cars to do India . Also hybrids will rule for next 6 to 8 years till there is clarity and stabilisation for the battery technology
I love My Nissan Kicks 1.3 turbo 😎
Understanding India’s mega market mix is very important like Kia did.
Nissan kicks after its ERA in India, folks looking for it to Some extend in such a case they can re launch it with competitive ergonomics and that 1.3 litre turbo petrol Will bring back into market
Suzuki is majority stake holder in the company now and the maruti logo has been replaced by suzuki logo so stop using maruti name to emotionally blackmail indian people and the second thing is a hybrid vehical still needs proper engine oil change and servicing so a hybrid vehical won't give you the space management advantage of a born ev it still needs proper servicing like a traditional ice and after some time even a hybrid vehical owner needs to replace some battery components of its car and the most important point is because indian people's perchasing power is growing most people will start buying 120-150 hp vehicles in coming years out of which 50-70% power will still come from ic engine which translates to aroung 80 hp which means a 1200 cc engine so what about reducing oil import of india and if hybrid vehicles succed it will have big impact on born evs, hydrogen fuel cell technology development HYBRID vehicles are being promoted by suzuki because suzuki knows that if it loses it's kitna deti hai advantage then it will lose its leadership.
Great
The Datsun Go+ should've been a sub 4m compact sedan instead fake station wagon. That could've been a banger product Nissan. Nissan brought Kicks very late and made no effort to update it.
Nissan should bring there GTR AND 370z via import to keep them live in Market there is a healthy demand for JDM products in Indai.
They can definitely but it seems they are reluctant
Renault Nissan and Citroen should be successful in India. Govt should focus socio economic development and should increase the GDP per capita. Than only people choose wisely.
You’re so wrong bring the patrol will make absolutely no sense, if launched it will 100% be on the CBU route which will make it even more expensive, Nissan should have products specially designed for India like Mahindra Tata, Maruti Suzuki. European cars like X-trail, Quashqai are very difficult to be sold here.
They HV bring boxy suv like brezza😊
when top management changes the product startegies made till then gets rubbed off from the whiteboard and the new borad members draw new road maps. Now, the top management by the time management understands market the competitor win the game..
They have introduced no vehicle for the last two years. Just one in the last 5 years. Where are they in India?
Next on ford india asap plz.
Launching Duster again, without a diesel engine will be a waste of resources.... Turbo petrol is not everyone's liking... Nissan X Trail may be successful in the petrol version....
This comes as shocker that the 2025 duster is not gonna be launched with hybrid powertrain. That would be a shame. How on earth does the media create a hype around hybrid only to be left wanting. Same like what happened with Elevate. Where are we standing with hybrid when minister Gadkari proposing 12% GST for hybrids? Still on paper ? Clearly the auto industry is on a turmoil. No one knows what the future? Is it electric or hybrid or flex fuel or CNG or Hydrogen ?
Kudos to the design team at Renault. Sheer brilliance unleashed for the mass market - 100/100 and far better than any other mass market cars and on par with Kia team
Duster ❤
Launch the Renault Arkana, just top good
Brand with market valuation of 15 billion dollars can’t even invest 1 billion in this booming market. I don’t think they are serious. Small company like mahindra in term of global player still investing heavily on diesel engine,ev’s,bof suv’s why can’t they do it
renault is one of the worst company to enter indian market. they had duster which was the creator of mini suv market in india , and they didn't brought any any Generation Update , stuck with lazy facelifts. they had best diesel engine 115ps 6speed manual, amt , all wheel drive , 4x4. they just needed one Generation update of car which they didn't do in time and creta captured n dominated the complete segment till date.
Getting a car from Nissan is better than getting a car from Renault.
Most European brands have had the going tough, only VW/Skoda have made a mark and have stuck around making India specific (el cheapo) compromises. The rest don't have as deep pockets and the commitment to "read" and "execute" products suited to India. They mostly have a "take it or leave it" attitude, a horrible product mix and market research. Citroen is the one testing the waters and is in deep waters or hot water as of now...Triber is a good product begging for a 1.2 Turbo petrol and a CVT gear box.
Duster was good quality due to Dacia lineage, rest of models are poor in comfort or quality😢😢
Duster is not coming till the end of next year, who will wait that long
Renault should introduce *CNG* version for their basket of Cars.
Why these people can't survive?
I live in Germany. I have seen Nissan have such good cars here. God knows why they sell garbage in India
Wrong decisions of renault nissan has doomed them
Ranault killed himself by partnering Nissan.
Why you have chosen two flop car makers of India. They are here just be in India. Unfortunately they haven’t understood Indian mindset.
