I've been running a SB DD on my NV5600 3rd gen for about 150,000 now and I gross over 30k a lot. At 400 hp the clutch has been working great. Anyone on the fence about a dual disk just do it and you won't be disappointed. Side note: If you keep eating 6th gear in your NV5600, like I was, build a fluid cooler for it. I haven't loss a trans since 😎

I used one of Kenny’s single disc clutches back when my truck didn’t need a dual disc. It held up well, and he was a good guy to work with. I’ll be keeping this in mind once my SB wears out. I’ve always had a &great experience working with Power Driven Diesel as well. More than half of my performance parts have come from them. I didn’t discover them until 2015, and bought the truck in ‘08.

I have learned the hard way, the cluch is not the weak spot in an NV4500. I consistently rip gears apart and shred teeth off. Even cryo treating only help slightly. And I have a 550hp southbend dd clutch. Again, clutch is not the weak spot. How about build a billet 5th gear and billet fullysplined main shaft. Not sure why no one does that.

Let’s be real the NV4500 was never meant for diesel torque... hell even the gear ratios are better suited for a gas engine. We took all the performance parts off our farm truck that has an NV4500 in it... even at stock power it isn’t holding up great. It’s been built and rebuilt about 5 times now. Blown up a south bend dual disk in it before too but that was more from rocking the truck back and forth when it was stuck

@@Piersoloutdoors I'm not going to discount that. I have ripped the teeth off 5th gear twice. Had the mesh set at .002 and I still ripped it apart. Maybe a bad tranny builder, I guess. Don't really care, I sold the truck.

@@Piersoloutdoors yea absolutely no way a stock 4500 is holding up to 1500hp or sled pulling, at least for very long. I’ve broken an input shaft with a stock truck. Given they never see 5th gear in a pulling truck helps them live but the input shaft is still small and weak and one good hop while pulling and it’ll break. When I broke the input shaft I was just cruising in the truck completely unloaded and shifted into 5th at 55-60mph and easily let out the clutch like normal and BANG. A proper trans builder only prevents the 5th gear nut from backing off. Other than that, it’s up to the actual parts’ strength. And like I said, it’s a transmission that was never designed for diesel use and torque.

@@Piersoloutdoors and they run in 4 low, not running in 2wd/4hi 99% of the time and most often have deeper differential gears than stock too. So that’s a lot of mechanical advantage after the transmission saving it some abuse. And again most guys also aren’t running stock parts in them. But point still stands in stock form, in a stock truck the NV4500 is marginally acceptable. Been driving one for a decade. The ratios are not suited well to a low revving Diesel engine in a street driven truck, especially one that tows 10,000lb+

@@Piersoloutdoors probably I bet you could tear up a billet trans, you seem like the dense type of fellow who could tear up an anvil in a sand box. Sure anything live for a long time or die quickly depending on use and driving style. but it’s been proven time and time again there are transmissions that handle even normal usage better without failure than the 4500. Hop off the NV4500 dick and quit trying to put it on a pedestal, it’s not that great. Never was, nor will it be.
