Be aware that a lot of 100% cotton pieces use polyester thread. Your thread won’t take the colour. So make sure you’re okay with the thread staying white.

Great video. I went to a restaurant supply store and got a huge stainless steel rectangular pan for dying, as I can get the hot water to my washing machine:( Also, it takes less dye. Thanks for sharing and giving your guidance.

Do *NOT* use a coin washing machine. *USE* a *bucket*. You can really damage peoples clothes if you don't own a washing machine. It's being rude and disrespectful and violating the policies of whoever owns those washing machines/dryers (whether its in apartment or stores)

As long as you run the washer on full load with a cup of bleach it will be 100% clean. I've dyed countless items in my own washing machine and always do this and have never had even a speck of dye residue.

You wash your clothes after it anyway. Or you could run it empty.

it's fine if you run an empty (or old towels) cycle with hot water and bleach. You're supposed to anyway. I've done it many times at the laundromat with no problem. Running a bleach cycle also cleans the machine of any mold and mildew buildup. So you're actually doing a favor + giving them more money.

I tried this. Maybe I didn't use enough dye or maybe I should've done stove top because it was a chiffon blouse but it came out a bit uneven, the garment looks like it's a lilac sky background with slightly lighter shades of purple clouds. I like it, though. It also has a collar similar to yours where the thread remained white and the mesh took on a darker shade.

I have one of those side ways washers, so it won't let me open it while there is water inside. Can I put the dye where the bleach goes? o: I'm not sure when the bleach gets added to the wash so I didn't know if it'd work or not..

Can you please advise how I can get a top from baby pink to white?? The reason is that I used a whitening agent for my whites and accidentally threw in the baby pink top too. if you want a color darker, put in you washing machine on low water, let agitate for a bit, turn off, let sit, agitate a bit, turn off and let sit____ over nigt__ then turn back on and let agitate thru the cycles___i dont know if newer washers let you turn on and off____i am old school i like top loader washers because you can add stuff at the last minute you forgot, which you cannot do with side loader

if you are doing something large like a comforter or blanket, you may need 2 - 3 bottle of dye if you want it darker or brighter___FOR example i had a hot pink cotton quilt that faded, so i added 2 bottles to washer, let sit overnight and it came out bright hot pink again, alas it did start to fade again after awhile, i had to re -dye___started to wash in cold water and hang up to air dry in summer, so it would not fade in dryer

Buy a darker shade of pink fabric dye and dye it. Or use a diluted red/fuchsia depending on the color you want to achieve. Silk takes well to dye, but don’t do it in too hot of water.

Mix in with the black dye the complimentary colors of the suit; When dyeing a colourful fabric Black or Charcoal Grey (without using Colour Remover before) the original colour may show through. The solution is adding some of the complementary colour in with the dark dye, this will cancel out the original base colour showing through. Red base needs Forest Green (or mix Royal/Navy Blue & Brilliant Yellow) Orange base needs Royal/Midnight Blue Yellow base needs Purple or Dark Plum (or mix Scarlet/Cardinal Red & Royal/Midnight Blue) Green base needs Scarlet Red/Cardinal Red Blue base needs Tangerine Orange (or mix Brilliant Yellow & Scarlet/Cardinal Red) Purple base needs Brilliant Yellow

I just dyed a POLO Ralph Lauren Interlock shirt and the dye did not change the color of the polo pony or the buttons or the Polo Label !

Not really. Nylon and synthetics won't turn out as well. Cotton looks a lot better, nylon won't soak up as much of the color and it will look faded.

I would not use a commercial washing machine. If you do not clean the dye out of the machine then the next person who uses it could have their clothes ruined. Go buy a bucket, heat up some water, pour the water into the bucket and do this in your home.
