NEW DIVKID MODULE // 'RND STEP' with Steady State Fate // 6 High performance Sample & Holds!
Музыка
TIMING INDEX BELOW / SKIP AROUND Here we have the new (third) DivKid Eurorack module made in collaboration with Steady State Fate. RND STEP is 6 high performance analogue sample and holds split across 3 channels in 4HP. There's 6 analogue pink noise generators, unipolar and bipolar outputs, high accuracy sampling, long hold time, trigger normalisation for lots of stepped modulation from single triggers, audio rate performance for downsampling and modulated noise tones. I'll leave the video to do the talking and as always I hope the video provides you with lots of ideas to apply to your own systems too.

A module that even the smallest cases will make space for as it offers so much in such a small hp! Fantastic work there Ben and Andrew!

Mate. That's my free 4HP space taken up..."EXACTLY" WHAT I WAS AFTER.
everything you make rocks. i love how connected you are to the community. these 4hp bangers just keep coming.
I knew it! - I needed one! Once again a simply great module Ben!
Congrats Ben! Excellent work as usual.
Awesome! Nice to see your module family growing.
Woooo CONGRATULATIONS!!! I'm so exited for you DivKid, well done! I just bought one, can't wait to play with it :D
I must own all Divkid modules. Also is great that module is made in colaboration with differnt manufacturers.
in one word : Amazing !! reviving the soul of what Modular Synth is ! much respect !
Loving it! Great work
What a beauty and with SSF no less. Huge congratulations
Looks and sounds great - congrats, well done!
What a fantastic module, you can never have enough sample and hold. Hope to get my hands on one of these next week!
nice work! great idea and great execution! really well done!
Seriously the most S&H/random in the smallest HP yet. Not to mention all the amazing advanced technical aspects of this design, it's a great module
Congratulations, Ben! Looking forward to owning one as well as an 0chd.
Looks like you made a really powerful random module in only 4HP, brilliant!
Thanks, Ben, for these videos. Quite often I'll find myself puzzled with certain aspects of a new module, and your explanations nearly always clear things up. And cheers re the RND STEP. I have one of those on the way and an Ochd - which I love - already in my case. I'll be sure to keep 4hp free for whatever you come up with next.
Wicked module mate! Loving it
Hands down D.K. you guys nailed it with this one . Love the idea and, the implementation yields such intresting results the human brain alone wouldn't dream of in hurry. Wow !!!
Just put this sucker in my rig and boy oh boy is it amazing!!! Exactly what I needed. Thanks so much for this. As soon as I figure out how I want to integrate it into my current patch I’ll be posting some content with it…seriously a fantastic module !!!!
couldn't agree more, S&H is so amazing and having 6 different outputs with 1 trigger only is amazing... definitely a must have
Thanks so much for this! Just ordered the RND STEP! Had to order from London, as all my US sources were sold out! Can't wait to get my hands on it!
Love it. Just what I was looking for.
nice work on this one, ben!
Man the sampling of the LFO was a eureka moment for me, so flexible and musical. Thanks for all your work, sometimes I feel stuck with my rig and I always find inspiration (or in the case of Stages, a video manual lmao) on your page cheers
Looks awesome. My stages is often taken up as many S+H, this would free it up to do something else for a change! Congrats on the new release.
A brilliant module Ben that fills a niche only you could detect and in such a tiny hp excellent👍👍👽
Proud of you brother !
This sounds quite unique, at 4hp this may just fit in my rack...Another excellent module !💡
I know this vid is 3+ yrs old but I’ve had my eye on this module for awhile and just ordered it!!!!! (Took a min to find as they’re disco’d currently) can’t wait to dive in!

Hello, the module isn't discontinued. We were unable to make them for a long time but no we are and there's new stock out in stores. Seems they've sold out quickly in some places to I'm glad you found one though, but more are coming and it's going nowhere for now. Thanks! :)

thanks again, much appreciated! I have them dotted around my systems and sometimes need more. Both RND STEP and ochd are mega handy and really bring a system to life. Appreciate it.
Fab work. Like VCAs you can never have enough SH
Congrats Ben, this looks ace
Awesome sauce Ben, looks really attractive!
congrats ben! this is great - i can't think of any other SH modules that can do v/oct, other than disting which hardly counts. definitely going to be ordering this with my Ochd when I can :))
Beautiful indeed.
Nice work, man
I’m sold ;)
I heard your music on metaball studios videos and then found this channel of yours. I've gotta say this truly blows my mind! I mean....I literally don't understand a word you said, it's like you're speaking a foreign language lol...but, the results are truly amazing! I love the sounds you can create with all this! I just wish I could fully comprehend how this witchcraft works! 😂👍

Hello, thank you. It's nice to have made the albums I did for the KZread Audio Library as the tracks pop up in all sorts of cool places. Funny when people find the channel and see it's not just the music but demonstrating some of the tools used to make it. Thanks for your interest! Check out VCV Rack (free software) if you'd like to play around with virtual versions of some of this stuff.
I don't even have to watch past 45 seconds of the video to know I'd put this into my modular rig.
Love this little thing

It is so rare to get these. Been looking everywhere haha.
This one is a must have!

Massively bias but I think so, I miss it when I don't have it in a set up.
This sounds great. I find other S&Hs to be quite ‘leaky’, so when you trigger them at audio rates, the downsampling effect is messy. This sounds super clean!
congrats bro!
Waouhhhh amazing ;) congrats. I wish it will be available soon in France ;)
he is such a Master
I feel like I’m watching a video on quantum mechanics. Great patch examples!
This is perfect! Always wanted some thing to sample my melodic voltages at different rates accurately:) my disting never seems to work well (plus I forget where the s&h algorithm is) Looks like a winner mate!
Perfect module for my last 4hp. Noise and S&H are two big things my case is missing and now I'll have a buttload of each in a small footprint. Now I just have to see how long I can keep myself from buying another case. Please don't tempt me with more ridiculously practical modules.
Heyy, i was kinda right in the previous video when guessing it will be s&h. But i guessed a lot of "on the nose" functions, while you can be much more creative with simple uni- + bi- polar outputs. Great module!
Very nice!
After watching one your 'vids' I feel a lot smarter, if only I could look smarter
This look very useful. Have to replan my case again... 😚
Mine’s in the post. Always struggled getting enough stepped random cv + s&h round my system. Someday I’ll buy you a pint :)
A very lovely nice and small module for a nice price.
very informative
I think you have a lovely mug.
Fantastic ;-) I don't have any DivKid modules yet. I want them all.
Hey! Cool module; also you're not 'fugly' at all- You're a good-looking and charming guy!
bruh... im a little disappointed that this wasnt the passive mult colab with doepfer, but this looks fucking ace! nice work dude.
Sold, well will be when the stores over here add it to their sites...hopefully I can wake up early enough 😂
I need this ASAP
Love that thing around 7.30 - just filled my case and promised myself that I must use the damn thing until I find something isn’t needed or could be better. I think I know what’s going in order to make way for this.

*evil kermit.jpeg* Just buy a new palette case, the 62 hp will expand your sound capabilities immensely
Nice! I was thinking of getting an ADDAC 215 to get some more stepped random but the I think the unipolar outputs are more important to me than the features on that module so maybe this one is in the cards instead.
Fun S&H!
Oh, No... not another “Must Have” module by DivKid!!! Ordered, now my Ochd won’t be so lonely. ;)
great module love that idea a lot feel like i could never have enuff sample and hold and never enuff random :P

oof. sold out! alas, my Roland System 500 555 will suffice. this video has given me tons of ideas. thank you
Man that was strange that short Arabic vocal sample was reading a verse from Quran which talks about demons ... I thought it could be the base of a sound performance in itself 😊😊😊... this is a great module man !
One day, I will own an entire Divkid system. It may be a decade now, but I feel it coming. And it's gonna be awesome. I can see the future. Unfortunately I see millions of possible futures, so I may have picked the wrong one. Maybe I should have chosen the one where the cats take over the internet and make us their synth playing slaves. Or maybe that already happened!!!!

I don’t have any sample and hold modules and was just about to buy the doepfer .. not anymore .. this and the Ochd are my next 2 purchases :)
Great.
"A random, sample&hold, feel polyphony thing:)" that was my answer to your question:) did i win ?
Take my money!! Another absolute banger. Looking forward to getting one! Btw what did you use to sidechain the bass and kick at the beat around 10:16?
at :47 seonds..I know that synth sound! What is being played/modulated t make that aphex twin sound somebody!
Like #224, I'm in the hipster vanguard FTW!!!
Sweet! So much random per HP
Hey Ben! This module is so great. Question for you. At 06:34, the LEDs on Channel 1 seem to indicate that Channel 1, untriggered, is generating its own CV at its outputs, which seems to suggest that when no trigger is patched, the random outputs are free running. I noticed however, that mine is NOT doing this (which is different than how I thought it worked). Are untriggered channels upstairs from triggered channels meant to be continuously creating random voltages? Or do they need to be triggered in order to do this? Any clarification you can offer would be greatly appreciated!
I finally got one! Lol❤

Fantastic! They're bag in stock with a new batch now, really happy more of them can be made.
Hi, is there any trig delay ? In order to S&H from a sequencer (the pitch changes often after the trigger send, if you know what I mean). Thxs !
Nice module! So no voltage drop after some time in the sample output? I remember buying a 2HP s/h for melodies and it was completely useless because of the drops after even seconds.
Another great video but I have to admit I was distracted by the empty spaces in the rack behind you what is going on there
A bit of an off-topic question here: what reverb are you using in that nice accidental descending arpeggio part? It’s nice and subtle, natural. I’m wondering if I can get away with using something small and affordable like Pico DSP for reverb. I think I’ll be picking up one of these RND step modules, too. Love the idea of triggering all six outs with one trigger.
@DivKid
3 жыл бұрын
no worries about off topic questions. That's the discontinued EOS Reverb module from Audio Damage (who no longer make hardware). You can get the EOS reverb plug in though which uses the same DSP code and that's a really lovely thing too.
When will these be back in stock?! 😭
Finally got myself a RND STP i got it because of the patch at 3:53 - 4:38 ... being new to euro, looks like i need a dipole now to achieve that sound, kind of lost on whats going on there ...... Anyone know if the patch book at patreon outlines how this patch is all cabled up ?
what are the cables that light up??
Hi, sold out worldwide? Any chance for a new batch?
Great, but cannot find this module for sale anywhere. Divkid, if you've got any of these to sell please let me know!
Blinking heck, Ben, what's with the module scrap yard to your right?!
What source was that sequence at 46 seconds?
Looks great. Would be nice if you get access to the pdf Booklet if you buy the Module.

Hello, thanks for the comment. Few things to bring up as I welcome criticism, ideas and discussion. The PDF manual Andrew mentions below isn't what you're talking about (you're talking about the Patreon exclusive I realise) however the manual Andrew mentions below does include a lot of text about patch ideas which you could apply to RND STEP or (with varying results in hold time/sample accuracy) with other sample and hold modules. So take a look at that, we put a lot of effort into that. I spent a long time on making the exclusive patch book for Patreon supporters, they go out of their way financially and also put in a huge amount of time and energy into forming what has become a really amazing community (especially in our Discord group). It's the start of a series of text/images/PDFs I plan to create exclusively to further support those that support me. I've been making videos that are entirely free to watch (and will continue to be) for around 7 years and each video I truly intend to be a demonstration of those functions and musical examples. Whether you want RND STEP or not this video provides you with so many patches to take away and try out for free. The recent Ripples filter demo would also give lots of patch ideas people can apply to their filters (Ripples or not) for example. I do believe with the video and the manual that's freely available we've gone above and beyond to provide a lot of information both technical and musical and in different formats. The additional Patreon PDF I've made goes outside of what RND STEP is and talks about patching and wider concepts which is very much extra to the module itself. For example it's really not important to know what clock source triggers an envelope (literally any would have worked) but that information is there for those that want the extra information. The general concepts and ideas are all based on the patches in the video too (as I say in the video) so you have video and audio examples of everything. Which again I feel is a lot more than most can provide. So I'm not trying to hold back something for the sake of it. It's something totally separate I've made. The people on Patreon choosing to go the extra way to support do deserve more, so I've worked hard to bring them something extra. And yes I've also promoted that as feed through from the video to Patreon to gain additional support if possible. I always feel cheeky bringing up Patreon and it's one of the only times I've ever said it anywhere outside of right at the end of a video while signing off. But I realise for things to grow and me to be able to continue doing what I do I have to promote these things. Take a look at the manual with the patch ideas as I think they'll be useful for lots of people. I felt like responding to this with some honesty and open thoughts, so apologies for the long response, but do please come back with any criticism to what I've said if you wish, constructive criticism is a good way to grow and I welcome that. So feel free to respond. Did you buy the module? I'm happy to chat about patch ideas and things if you have it. Hope chat soon, thank you.
Does your patreon page have a patch breakdown of the overlapping chord tones? Sounds so amazing!

Hi Sean, the 12 patches featured here are all documented in the Patch Cookbook for patrons. There's a modular grid patch image of the specific patch then paragraphs for the concept and idea as well as then breaking down the specific patch routing and modules.

similar situation here, I need some more! We couldn't make anymore due to parts becoming unavailable. Luckily we have a new design (circuit, not a v2 or anything) that gives the same behaviour to re launch with new stock and hopefully long term much better availability. I'll be making a video again when they become available, hoping we're pretty close now but waiting on some updates about it.
