NEW DIVKID MODULE // 'RND STEP' with Steady State Fate // 6 High performance Sample & Holds!

Музыка

TIMING INDEX BELOW / SKIP AROUND Here we have the new (third) DivKid Eurorack module made in collaboration with Steady State Fate. RND STEP is 6 high performance analogue sample and holds split across 3 channels in 4HP. There's 6 analogue pink noise generators, unipolar and bipolar outputs, high accuracy sampling, long hold time, trigger normalisation for lots of stepped modulation from single triggers, audio rate performance for downsampling and modulated noise tones. I'll leave the video to do the talking and as always I hope the video provides you with lots of ideas to apply to your own systems too.

    Hey Ben! This module is so great. Question for you. At 06:34, the LEDs on Channel 1 seem to indicate that Channel 1, untriggered, is generating its own CV at its outputs, which seems to suggest that when no trigger is patched, the random outputs are free running. I noticed however, that mine is NOT doing this (which is different than how I thought it worked). Are untriggered channels upstairs from triggered channels meant to be continuously creating random voltages? Or do they need to be triggered in order to do this? Any clarification you can offer would be greatly appreciated!

    A bit of an off-topic question here: what reverb are you using in that nice accidental descending arpeggio part? It’s nice and subtle, natural. I’m wondering if I can get away with using something small and affordable like Pico DSP for reverb. I think I’ll be picking up one of these RND step modules, too. Love the idea of triggering all six outs with one trigger.

  • @DivKid

    no worries about off topic questions. That's the discontinued EOS Reverb module from Audio Damage (who no longer make hardware). You can get the EOS reverb plug in though which uses the same DSP code and that's a really lovely thing too.

  • @DivKid

    @DivKid

    4 жыл бұрын

    Hello, thanks for the comment. Few things to bring up as I welcome criticism, ideas and discussion. The PDF manual Andrew mentions below isn't what you're talking about (you're talking about the Patreon exclusive I realise) however the manual Andrew mentions below does include a lot of text about patch ideas which you could apply to RND STEP or (with varying results in hold time/sample accuracy) with other sample and hold modules. So take a look at that, we put a lot of effort into that. I spent a long time on making the exclusive patch book for Patreon supporters, they go out of their way financially and also put in a huge amount of time and energy into forming what has become a really amazing community (especially in our Discord group). It's the start of a series of text/images/PDFs I plan to create exclusively to further support those that support me. I've been making videos that are entirely free to watch (and will continue to be) for around 7 years and each video I truly intend to be a demonstration of those functions and musical examples. Whether you want RND STEP or not this video provides you with so many patches to take away and try out for free. The recent Ripples filter demo would also give lots of patch ideas people can apply to their filters (Ripples or not) for example. I do believe with the video and the manual that's freely available we've gone above and beyond to provide a lot of information both technical and musical and in different formats. The additional Patreon PDF I've made goes outside of what RND STEP is and talks about patching and wider concepts which is very much extra to the module itself. For example it's really not important to know what clock source triggers an envelope (literally any would have worked) but that information is there for those that want the extra information. The general concepts and ideas are all based on the patches in the video too (as I say in the video) so you have video and audio examples of everything. Which again I feel is a lot more than most can provide. So I'm not trying to hold back something for the sake of it. It's something totally separate I've made. The people on Patreon choosing to go the extra way to support do deserve more, so I've worked hard to bring them something extra. And yes I've also promoted that as feed through from the video to Patreon to gain additional support if possible. I always feel cheeky bringing up Patreon and it's one of the only times I've ever said it anywhere outside of right at the end of a video while signing off. But I realise for things to grow and me to be able to continue doing what I do I have to promote these things. Take a look at the manual with the patch ideas as I think they'll be useful for lots of people. I felt like responding to this with some honesty and open thoughts, so apologies for the long response, but do please come back with any criticism to what I've said if you wish, constructive criticism is a good way to grow and I welcome that. So feel free to respond. Did you buy the module? I'm happy to chat about patch ideas and things if you have it. Hope chat soon, thank you.
