    DeWalt should have made a 1/2” battery router like their 1/4” battery router, that is to use the same round body design as the corded routers; this allows use of existing bases, trim, plunge, and even table bases. Milwaukee came out with a battery router years ago and it used their universal base design allowing use of the D-handle, fixed, and plunge bases as well as letting you put it in a router table.

  • @joshuaking34

    @joshuaking34

    While that sounds like a cool idea, I prefer the larger footprint on dedicated plunge routers. Additionally, the built in dust extraction wouldn’t be possible if DeWalt reused the existing bases.

  • @libertarian1637

    The 8 amp/hr battery isn’t new, it’s been out for years, it’s just gotten a re-packaging and re-branding to fit with DeWalt’s new marketing approach. DeWalt has made 5S2P 21700 (double) cell packs in 6, 8, and 10 amp/hr for some years now. You can also get 21700 cells in their new 3 & 4 5S single stack packs and their 9 & 12 5S3P/15S FlexVolt packs. The 15 amp/hr FlexVolt batteries actually jump back to 30 18650 cells in 5S6P/15S2P configuration.

  • @nfi2nfi2
    @nfi2nfi2Ай бұрын

    Hikoki still has more power than dewalt. Also hikoki was the first plunge router 1/2” that remains true, the porter cable wasn’t a plunge router. Dust extraction well yeah that definitely has them beat, The anti rotation is kind of meh on a cordless router because the battery will cut out under load in any real bind up of the router stalling it. Nice feature but wouldn’t say it’s a make or break feature.

  • @burwoodbuild

    @burwoodbuild

    Ай бұрын

    Thanks for watching and taking the time to leave a msg 👍🏼. Couple of points to clarify… * The Porter-Cable 9290 router motor could be fitted to the existing 690’s plunge base and D-handled base meaning you could make plunge cuts… so my statement was true. *DeWalt has a 1700 watt motor with 70mm plunge cut Vs a Hikoki with a 1500w motor and only a 50mm plunge cut. Higher voltage does not necessarily mean more power. *More importantly to a lot of users will be the ability on the DeWalt to centre the cutter for precision work with jigs. I don’t believe the Hikoki can do that so because of that would not make the shortlist. Because the Hikoki came out earlier it now appears to be lagging compared to competitors… that’s not to say it won’t make sense to some who don’t want to spend a fortune especially when Hikoki have dropped the price again recently.

    I have a massive complaint. Guess what? It is not against DeWalt. however, DeWalt has made my complaint and point extremely load & clear. Mafell spent 6 years developing a damn 1/4" router with a power cord, just unbelievable backward development, while the remaining tool world has decided to go with batteries very forward thinking. I would not be surprised if FLEX brings a 1/2" router to market within a few years.
