Lauren, I had to laugh when you put the chickens in the dirt bath and they jumped back out! It is like getting my cats the cushiest cat beds and they prefer a paper bag, LOL! Just put some kale in it and they will jump right in!!

Lauren, if you would hire an irrigation specialist to hook up your irrigation lines existing in your beds and the emitters, they could hook them up to a timer and you would save money on water bills by having them set up the timers to turn on the irrigation a certain number of times during the day and a certain amount of time for watering. We live in AZ and never worry about watering our gardens ever since we set them up on a timer and irrigation. Its a game changer and and a money saver. You won't regret it.

We have chickens,steers, rabbits, cats, dogs and a garden. It is always nice being outside.

Great additions to the chicken yard. If you add a bag of diatomaceous earth to the soil it will help keep the girls pest free. It’s available at most feed/farm stores.

My next door neighbors have chickens (and ducks and geese). I have become very invested in them and observe their behavior, know their names, and have even assisted when they first moved here and we had a fox incident. Anyway, their chickens actually dig holes in the yard and lay in there for their dirt baths. They use the actual dirt. They love it! They flap their wings and toss the dirt all over themselves. It's fascinating.

I love the picnic tables for the chickens. I have 40+ chickens. I agree it is relaxing to watch them and play with them. I love my chickens. I have 2 roosters outside in the yard and one follows me around like a dog and listens to me.

So cute with the chickens today. You might think about a bag of construction sand to mix in with the plant soil for the dirt bath. It will help aerate the soil and help it dry faster. Also the chickens use the dirt baths to rid themselves of insects and dry skin flakes. Sand helps with both. Make sure not to get “play” sand meant for children as it has additives not good for the chickens.I have chickens and love listening to them and watching them. I spoil them as much as possible!

Hi. Just a suggestion for the chickens dirt bath. They will enjoy it more if you had all purpose sand or multi purpose sand, dried lavender or crushed leaves. It helps to keep away bugs/flys etc. also add food grade DE: Earth Diatomaceous: helps with fleas/roaches etc or First Saturday lime. Your chickens will love the combo. Happy Chicken Bath

Yeah! I'm so glad you did this! I thought about this a long time ago, and I should have suggested it sooner, that you should put a dirtbath right in their pen; so they don't hurt your plants anymore. Great job!

Yes, I have 3 hens. I like the feeders That you Purchase..Chickens are so much fun to hang out with, very peaceful. You're garden It's looking awesome good job Lauren Love it!❤❤❤❤❤

Another tip I have that we use for our hens is to empty into their pen any used plant pots with old soil, especially weeds as they love picking through the old roots finding grubs and worms and it is an easy way to clear out your old finished pots at the end of the season.

Goodness, the garden has really taken off! It’s funny how it happens, one day it’s looking sad or not really growing and then poof. You will have a bountiful harvest, and yes maybe even Kale. The chicken redo looks great. They seem to like the elevated feeders.

You have the best luck with your gardens. You can use aged chicken poop to feed them. The play sand is what you can use for the chickens to take their dust baths in.

No, play sand has additives that are not good for chickens. You can read about it in various articles. Construction sand is the best with no additives and is much healthier for them.

Love your girls. I have 14 hens right now. You mentioned hay to put on the ground but use straw instead if you use anything. It'll be drier and break down better. I use pine shavings on my coop. Luckily Mr run is covered so that's dirt. They love to dustbathe in that.

Where I live on Long Island its illegal to have chickens 😢 its my dream to have a chicken coop one day!!

Nothing like a chicken for a pet. I use Lyme in the summer around chicken area. I also add herbs for lice and other insects in dirt bath
