I probably should have used better wording in that I have learned it is more accurate to say that Chinland has *sovereignty* and while it runs itself as its own state *de-facto*, it's more open ended on whether it has outright independence. While they express aspirations for a more federal union style of Myanmar, until they have that, they're still basically a de-facto state.

Chinland did not declare independence in its new constitution from all the sources I've read. Quoting an article from the Indian news site The Wire: _"Many observers appear to have been misled when the conference decided to rename ‘Chin State’ as ‘Chinland,’ raising concerns over whether it will opt for independence. The constitution explicitly calls for the establishment of a federal union which enshrines full self-determination, equal political rights, and national rights for the Chin. Notably, the Chinland Council seeks self-determination and sovereignty over its area rather than declaring itself to be an independent state. "_ So this is a similar situation to Rojava, both are de facto autonomous but their stated goal is a democratic federal union, not independence.

It’s definitely a grey area since their constitution makes no mention of their relation with Myanmar, but they are asserting statehood/sovereignty. So for now it’s de facto independence since they’re fighting the government forces in power.

​@@lawden210 Wa state has more leverage due to Chinese support and co-operation with the Junta. Chin land is a bit different since they're firmly allied with the rebel NUG government, it's possible the goal is similar but not with the Junta in power unlike Wa state. I'm not too sure what the endgame is for other groups though (Arakan Army, KIA, MNDAA etc).

Burma is collapsing. In Thailand next door, there is a bit of alarm at the scale and speed of the problems Burma is facing next door. Most of the countries in the region are shocked but aren't sure exactly what to do--no one wants to be seen supporting the current military government, which is desperately trying to grab conscripts from the general population to fight in all these separatist areas that are appearing (not just the Chin).

Chinland apparantly are working for "a bottom-up approach for the establishment of future federal union in Myanmar." so want to be more like an autonomous nation state within Myanmar and have only declared the establishment of the country but not independnce (yet).

@@Konkonponponsonson Almost none of the ethnic armed organizations in Myanmar are actually, explicitly separatist. A few reasons.. for one, none of them could match the Myanmar military on their own and usually have to form alliances among themselves to keep the military at bay.

But it got a pretty interesting, yet possibly challenging start. You begin at war with the central military junta and have yet to fully conquer your territory, lots of other states/tags in the region though with whom you can ally. China and India are also lurking around. So could be worth playing regardless. Probably, playing Myanmar itself is the more hardcore challenge right now, though.

As a Dutch person I was really confused as to if this was some aleternate history video of a Dutch colony (look up our flag, and flags from the past)

I can’t believe it, the devs FINALLY updated The Map.

My wife was born in Guyana, she's of Indian ancestry who's family got there as part of the British Empire, she left in the early 70s after Guyana left the Empire. She wanted to go back there with her brothers and sisters last year. I said go ahead, I've had enough of 3rd world places to visit in my life (US Navy). She said it kind a sucked, lol.

Chinland didn't declare independence. Arakan, on the other hand, is de facto independent other than an official declaration of independence. The Arakanese in Burma have been using their own flag, anthem, official language, bureaucracy and most importantly, an army of their own.

The major question is who controls the legal base in the land. We still have PLO and Israel at odds over that, which presumes the Palestinian Authority is legally stable, which it isn't: this was the entire point of the British mandate, a temporary structure until such time as a local Authority could manifest control, which Israel did in 1948. Ceding to anarchy is not a good way of administering power.

The newest one was south sudan after declaring independence from Sudan I hope this one mentioned in the video becomes a country because we haven't received a new one in a long time!
