for those confused a heifer bull is a smaller and younger bull used for 1st time breeding heifers. It is a common ranch term. The younger girls don't need a heavy bull on them. Heifer bulls are often times purchased with genetics that show lower birth weight for ease of calving

A heifer bull is not just a younger smaller bull. It is also a bull that genetically show cause a smaller birth calf to be born. A smaller younger bull that " throws" 90-100+ lb calves is a cow killer for heifers and some aged cows. When I milked a " proven" young bull came that was supposed to be a high producing calving easy bull the fist 2 cows I used him on almost died because of massive calves. I think it took 1 1/2 calving seasons ,about 14 months for him to be killed for beef

Quite a few Angus are starting to have a mean side and owners are outcrossing to herfords. My uncle tried browns, charleighs(sp), and Angus besides his herfords. He stayed with herfords because they were the nicest, easygoing and had meat about as good as the Angus.
