    Check out Matt Powers, he works closely with Dr Elaine, he has a video on how to make great teas. The key is biology, so you need to add mycorrhizal fungi (Real Growers Recharge - Soil Microbe Superpack) along with some soluble kelp, soluble fish hydrolisate (with 10% fish oil), and you will see massive improvements literally within a week. Its all about the fungus/bacteria ratio, get it 1:1 and your plants will grow up to double the size/health/nutrition.

    Also, presoaking the seeds, and spraying as close to the root as possible is magnitudes more effective than foliar spraying according to Dr Johnson and others.

    Fantastic info. Question about your Johnson-Su bioreactors, what’s the lowest temperature they get to in your shop over the winter? Also, do you have an opinion on leaving the reactors outside to freeze over the winter which will hopefully promote locally appropriate fungal activity that will over-winter better when transferred to the fields?

  • @koreyfauque7745

    @koreyfauque7745

    Our shop stays pretty much at around 65 degrees all winter. As far as leaving them out for us it doesn’t work because it gets so cold that they literally freeze solid so we don’t get any breakdown over the winter if we do that and it kills the worms. That being said that is an interesting point!!

    @@koreyfauque7745 same here, frozen solid - however, my thinking is that it’s the type of biology I need to promote to achieve a new equilibrium. Currently have one reactor indoor that’s ready now after a year and two more thawing outdoors for next year.

    What size holes are in the sand sifter piece? Do you think it's hindering biology types and numbers that could be getting through into your fields? I've heard 400 mm size holes are a good size to keep sediment out but make sure you're getting the most out of your efforts biologically.

    Do you add any food for the fungi or can you not get that much fungal growth in the short time for extraction?

  • @koreyfauque7745

    @koreyfauque7745

    We added granular humic through the air drill as fungal food and don’t add anything in the extract other than a little liquid humic. We can’t really get much fungal growth anyways in the short time from extraction till application and definitely don’t want food that would ramp up the bacteria as it would go anaerobic pretty fast without added air. That also seems to allow us to let this stuff sit for a couple days without any biofilm issues

    So it’s compost tea not extract? I thought extract didn’t use air 🤔 Tea feeds the plant and extract feeds the soil ??

  • @koreyfauque7745

    @koreyfauque7745

    Жыл бұрын

    This would be extract. The only thing the air is used for is pulling the biology off the compost and then at that point it isn't aerated for fed and is put down in the ground or through our sprayer. If it was tea we would feed it and aerate it after this extraction process and multiply the biology for 24 hours or so.

  • @greighenning9091

    Cycling water continuously through a sand extractor can't be good for microbes. The sand extractor will no doubt extract all compost bigger than a grain of sand, so what's the point as the feedstock gets taken out of the process. Rather aerate all the material, and allow the screen/sieve to keep solids out of the final product.

    @@koreyfauque7745 I have a liquid strip till bar, and am thinking of getting an extractor and running it in the the strip till unit. How many gallons per acre of extract would you use per acre? Would the biology still be viable if mixed with liquid fertilizer when applied? Final question. If I applied fert, and extract in the strips in the fall, would the biology still be there and work the following spring and growing season? Thanks for your response, and keep the videos coming. I really enjoy them. Matt in Iowa

    @@mattshowalter2538 that would work great I bet although the fertilizer would almost certainly kill the biology so I would skip that part. We tried mixing low salt Alpine G-22 with our extract and it killed most of the upper level stuff like Amoeba and nematodes and appears to be pretty hard on the rest of it. As far as it still being alive the next year I’m sure that would be the case. We are actually finding it takes some time to the biology to start cycling stuff (I applied extract last year to some grass and didn’t see much then but it looks a lot better this year)
