New Balance Fresh Foam 1080v13 Full Review | The daily favourite gets a major overhaul

Спорт

The Freshfoam 1080 range has long been one of New Balance’s most popular shoes for cushioned daily training. However, despite the chunky level of midsole foam, the shoe has historically veered towards a firmer ride.
The 1080v13 has modified the shoe with a new, softer Fresh Foam midsole to improve the level of cushioning and comfort, as well as redesigned the upper with a new breathable mesh that offers more structure than earlier versions.
The shoe features plenty of padding around the ankle collar and tongue for a healthy dose of step-in comfort and features an Ndurance rubber outsole for grip and to improve durability.
Tom, Nick, Mike, Jane and Kieran have been testing the shoe out to see if it's worth buying.

As a long time NB runner for my road shoes I was a hoping to hear good things, thankfully they’ve delivered and the review really helped. With wide voluminous feet the 2e fit (other brands take note) are my to. One pair on order. :) Thanks The Run Testers.

Good timing: night before launch. What's the fit in width, length and height compared to the 1080v12? I like the 1080v12 and this sounds more like the More v3 which sounds interesting. It should be interesting to see what the More v5 is like as I'd expect them to put this foam in that.

Thank you for mentioning the preferred paces for the shoe, Tom! It makes it much easier to work out if it's the right shoe for our needs. Everyone's version of easy, tempo etc is different, so the actual pace is super helpful.

I think that that is the point of saying a shoe is for “x” effort, instead of just naming pace intervals. Otherwise Pro/College runners would be wearing carbon plates on their easy runs.

Agree@@yahinkie9532 , but if a runner doing a far slower pace for easy runs finds the pace for their marathon (for example) is still within the sweet spot for their easy run shoes, then they may not need to worry about getting a 'race day' shoe. They already have a pair for their needs. Tom, mentioning the sweet spot told me that I could basically to all my running in a pair of 1080s, based on my expected marathon pace.

I'm one of those people who mostly like the V12 but could use a bit more cushioning in the forefoot for long runs, but also unfortunately couldn't use the more V4 because of blisters. Hopefully the 1080 b13 will sit in that sweet spot in between. I guess we'll see.

As a heavier 200lb runner these things are a godsend. I'm not fast so i don't need them for that, i need those slow plodding miles to feel protected and to take care of my joints. They're so so good for that. I hated the V12, they felt like bricks compared to the V13.

How have they held up over time? I’m 225 and durability is a concern of mine as I just chewed through my Mizuno Wave Rider 27s. I’m at 250 miles and already feeling like it’s getting close to time to move on.

@@DaveyKnavey I've only had them since February or March of this year, I only run 2-3 times a week on average (give or take depending on my weight lifting routine) and they're still in great shape. The one complaint I have with them is they run hot. My feet were like swamps when I was done so I took scissors to the upper and cut some small holes throughout. 😂 They're not the prettiest now, but there's much better air flow!

Hi! I've been doing my research before I pull the trigger on this pair. I've tried it on and it feels very comfortable together with the Cloud Monster, and Bondi 8. I'm a nurse and need a good trainer for a 12-16-hour shift. Would you recommend this pair for long-standing hours or just go with the other models I've mentioned? Thanks.

Just received mine, super comfortable upper that fits true to size. The midsole is super soft and not the least bit responsive , at least for my weight of 185 lbs. Drop feels about 4 mm, and I will be using these as a lifestyle , walking shoe. If you want something plush and responsive, nothing touches the Triumph 21. These would be very good for slow 🐌 runs, but anything up tempo you really do just sink into the fresh foam x

@chrismiranda5648 did even read what was written ? I said they would be fine for slower pace runs. Long short, but anything up tempo to workouts, they fall short. That is my opinion. If you feel different, then kudos to you. Enjoy the shoes.

It seems the sizing of New Balance shoes just isn't very consistent. I got the advice to size down in the 1080 v12, and it was spot on. Same for the More v4. I wear my normal running size in fuel cell shoes though.

So confused by NB sizing. I’m UK 8.5 in most brands and that’s apparently 27.5cm. In NB when I look it seems like 27.5cm is size 9 in their shoes!

Compared to the t20 it is a night and day difference in terms of cushion. My t20s are stiff in comparison, but not stiff in a bad way. Can feel my foot sink in just walking, I'm 190lbs. I want to try it again with fresher legs, first run with them today and my calves were already sore prior. Had some aches in my foot I don't normally have, but my only shoe has been the t20 so maybe that's why. I didn't like it when I tried to pick up the pace compared to the t20 today though
