I know it's weird, but I love how this lock sounds. Even the motor sounds satisfying. I do think they missed an opportunity by not going for Thread, but it probably won't cause any major issues. I'm looking forward to unlocking the door via facial recognition with the G4 doorbell. The Aqara ecosystem is getting stronger!

My Schlage lock stop working and I’m out of warranty

Just installed ours on Monday and so far I really like it. Replaced an older Schlage Z-Wave lock that I had been trying to tie into HomeKit unsuccessfully so I decided it was time to just replace it. I decided to keep the deadbolt and strike plate from the Schlage lock as they are much more heavy duty than the included Aqara hardware. To do this I did have to file down the small bump on the flat rod that goes through the door to actually actuate the lock. Not a big deal, a few strokes with a flat file and it fit perfectly. First thing I noticed once it was installed and it was running through calibration is that the motor inside is rather weak. The old Schlage actually had two power settings and if the low power failed to extend the bolt then it would automatically attempt it again with the higher power, which was often necessary on my door. The Aqara just couldn't do it so I had to pull out the file and a set of chisels and clearance the opening in the door behind the strike plate as much as possible (there's a sidelight on the knob side of my front door). It is working well now but I wonder if I'll have to adjust it again once the weather changes due to the house moving a bit in the winter. Once it was fully set up and added to HomeKit everyone in the house received notifications on their phone that they had a HomeKey ready to use. It has taken a bit of adjustment, mostly with proper technique for tapping the phone properly to unlock, but so far so good!

Great video again and thanks. I have been using it for a month now and Home Key feature is worth every penny of the price. Most recent firmware update also added Matter support via Zigbee when bonded with M2 hub. I wasn’t a big fan with Bluetooth, it is constantly missing the lock and unlock notification from HomeKit. However the Matter for this lock completely missed all notification from HomeKit. So far, has to stick with the Bluetooth for HomeKit. It performed well without any issue (other than hit or miss with notification).

Bought my first house last May and after watching your videos decided to go with Aqara as my go to smart home devices, have few motion, door and temp sensors, Aqara video doorbell all connected to m2 hub. Planning to get more devices in future, a door lock would be a great addition😁 automations that I’ve set up so far nothing to fancy motion sensors turning my stairs lights same thing in my gaming room but I think my favourite is Aqara mini switch that turns on my food waste disposer that is connected to smart plug. Been waiting on this lock for a while now since it was announced. Glad it lives up to all the expectations.

Just finished installing the U100 (we run a daycare in our home and are using it for the main door there.). It was the easiest installation I have done for a smartlock. The app is great... my only complaint is I would like it to be able to have more than one admin user. Other than that connecting it to the hub, adding the Alexa skill and connecting to my Homekit was a breeze... I highly recommend this lock.

I still think Schlage is the best (I have 6). The thread support is the best part, super fast and efficient.

Great review - from what I recall when installing my G4 doorbell, the G4’s face recognition feature can unlock the door when the unit is paired with an Aqara lock, so that’s a bonus for those of us with a G4 already installed. (Also, just because it drives me crazy: Schlage is a German brand, so it’s pronounced “Sh-LA-guh” - pretend you’re saying it like Schwarzenegger would!) :-D

My favorite automation is with the u100 smart lock itself. When someone gets home and shuts the door, it auto locks as it should. After it auto locks, I created an automation to say “front door locked.” 😱 crazy that I need to do that in the app but it works. Would like another for the backyard door tho!

while not thread, it would be Zigbee and Matter viable with a proper Aqara hub to create similar connectivity standards as Thread

I bought one of these and I am really enjoying it. I was thinking of getting a 2nd one for my back door. Do you know if it is possible to copy my users and their corresponding passwords and fingerprints from one lock to another? Or will I have to set it up again?

Great Video Shane, installed the lock this afternoon and am super happy, I do slightly prefer my Schlage Encode Plus as it has wifi, seems a little faster, nevertheless the Aqara is a great lock when paired with M2 Hub, quick question, I have had a notification in he Aqara app with option to upgrade the M2 Hub and U100 Lock to Matter, have you done this, is it recommended on iOS 16.5.1? Some reports say it can screw up the use of the lock in HomeKit. Cheers

I am not a fan of Bluetooth as I had a bad experience with Level lock. Not using that boat anchor now. Schlage plus has been solid so far.

I love the home key feature

I wonder how the finish will hold up to direct sunlight. I have 4 Schalge connect locks that have been replaced already once from them for the finish peeling and fading very bad after direct use. I’m about done with Schlage because of this.

Love the G3 camera hub, I have the camera to look when the door open greet the person with the face recognition will have different messages.

Damn was hoping for thread. Dont have any other aqara products, would have to get a hub as well just for the lock unfortunately. I love that schlage just works over thread with your homekit hub.

Great video - ? how do family members set up home key as well so they can use all the features. I am assuming they download the aqara app set up an account with their own email address etc. when I have tried to connect their home kit to the hub or lock it says accessory needs to be reset but I don't want it to reset cause won't it take it out of mine. Please help ir you have a video about this please include a link - I have tried everything I know and have not been successful.

Is there any way to active the an Aqura alarm system from this lock? Would be cool to set the alarm to away mode from the luck when leaving the house. I know you can disable the alarm from any homekit lock with a simple automation

Hello Shane, so I purchased this lock and installed it, works great. However, for some reason, I can’t bond it with my aqara M1S hub, Any idea?

Just the gyroscope auto lock feature wins over any other brands. I currently have a samsung ezon that has a magnet for the auto lock but does not have biometrics and wanted a upgrade.

I’m moving and will be changing my locks, getting new doorknobs (starting fresh) from a locksmith. I’d like to get this lock, but I wanted to clarify something. When you say rekey do you mean if I buy this lock I can’t get duplicate keys or does the rekey mean I can’t make the lock match existing keys? I ordered the Level Lock Plus from Amazon it’s scheduled to be here Tuesday, but 👀 this looks like a cost effective and even better option! I’ll happily send the Level Lock back if I can have keys for my parents made.

@shanecreates 8:30 you mentioned that binding to a hub will result in it communicating over zigbee, is this true even when using HomeKit? There’s no indication in the home app that the lock is attached to a hub/child accessory. Do you know if this is indeed the case that the lock will not communicate via BT to HomePods/Apple TV?

Have you seen any issues with the locks Not Responding in the home app? And any issues unlocking doors from outside of your network/bluetooth range?

Big question. Does it work with Ring? Can it arm and disarm my Ring alarm? IDK if Ring works well with Matter.

Thanks Shane! Great video. One question I had was about the auto-lock feature. Can you confirm that (1) it has a passage mode (I can set it so the lock doesn’t auto-lock at all, for example for parties people coming in and out); and (2) can you manually set in interval of minutes when the door auto locks after I unlock it (if I were to set it to auto lock)? I tried the Aqara A100pro zigbee and it did not have these features which resulted in me shelving it. My use case: I get a lot of deliveries and I need to unlock my door manually via app when I get a delivery so that the delivery guy opens the door and places the package. I can’t have the lock auto lock in a few seconds as typically the delivery guys will let me know they are at the door when they are a minute or two away and it takes them another minute or two to figure out which door they need to open. I need to unlock the door and it should only auto lock after X number of minutes. Holding to figure this out before thee coupon expires. Have two in the cart. Thanks again!

My setting is : enable auto lock function at 11pm and disable it at 8am, it works well. And aqara home has passage mode

How long is the response time when control it through homekit? Someone else mentioned it takes like 5 seconds, this sound too long to me

If you pair to m3 hub then you can’t use the home key right?

I wouldn't put that lock in my house. We have much higher security standards in Denmark than what that lock provides. First off it seems that a burglar wouldn't have any problem taking that outside part off with a crowbar tool. And then having free acces to the deadbolt. If not that it would be easy to pick that rather simple 5 pin lock. The lack of security in that lock really troubles me. I do love all the features though! Looks awesome!

How long the battery life in a non heated garage (close to freezing some cold days) is my concern…

We have not had this lock long and replaced the batteries once. I turned off auto lock because it seems to use them so quickly, now it is again at 47% in less than 2 weeks.

Seems like this one will be a US exclusive? The Aqara doorbell was released in Germany simultaneously with the US release, but that doesn't seem to be the case with the U100. At least I can't find it anywhere east of the ocean. Or has this one not been released in the US yet, either?

Shane, have you tried to replace the key hole with the Kwikset Smarkey. It has the ability to easily re-key keys. 🔑

My HomePods are stuck on setting up with HomePod os16.5 I reset them, removed them from my Apple profile, changed to a temporary home I created (that worked) but when i changed back to my home they get stuck … Do you have a video regarding these problems?

Technically I have at least 8 hubs, maybe more, not including Apple Home Hubs like HomePods and Apple TVs.

Hi Shane, this is the first time I’ve ever commented on anything on KZread and they made me create an account for something a channel lol but I noticed when you were at Home Depot trying to see if they could re-key that lock You may be able to get a schlage cylinder to replace the cylinder that’s in there I know they make several different sizes and key it to your lock. If you try it, let me know I might do the same thing. Great review by the way.

Amazing review! On the power, it comes with a USB-C, does that mean the included batteries are rechargeable? If not and I got rechargeable batteries, do you think the USB-C cable would charge them without taking them out of the unit?

The USB-C cable will not charge the batteries. That is just to use for emergency power, like with a power bank.

So I live in the US but I have had my devices under the China region so that I can use the fp1. The u100 isn’t showing up on the list. Apparent if I switch to US in the Aqara App, I have to add and set them up all over again? Please help

I usually advise using the appropriate region where you live. You can setup the FP1 under the US region also, you just need to pair the sensor to your hub manually.

Thanks Ed. I've heard of a future M3 but I don't know much about it or if/when it will be available. Updating your hub might fix your issues, but I can't be 100% certain.

Question: if I understand correctly, it will communicate with HomeKit via Bluetooth. So, that does that mean it only communicates with HomeKit via iPhone when it is near or can it connect to HomeKit hub via Bluetooth so lock can be controlled when iPhone is away from the house/remotely?

Yes it can be controlled via homekit when you are away, as long as you have a homekit hub. Bluetooth devices will communicate via bluetooth to your homekit hub when you are not home.

Current house my family and I are living came with a Kwikset Keypad door lock and I'm looking to upgrade to something like this with all available features to unlock. By your experience with the device can you safely say its secure? I will be using it for my main door entrance. Thanks for the feedback

None of these are secure. You can bump key any of these in a matter of 3-5 seconds unfortunately
