Learning about the factory 30% voltage cutoff is such good information. Everyone on forums always says to stay above 30% on the display, but now knowing that "30%" is already accounted for and running to 0% is actually the batteries 30% is extremely comforting. You guys knocked it out of the park with this one like always

Excellent video! As a new Ebike owner, this is info I really needed! Can you do a video in correlation with this one to explain what controller I would need when I go up to a bigger 60v or 72v battery on my Sting R? And how you pair or program it to mate with the battery. Also, maybe one on motor size and compasion too. I will ultimatley be wanting the best battery, controller, and motor match up for my Work commute. I have 2 orders coming already from Charged cycles. Its cool to see you pair up! Awesome work guys! As always! Keep up the good work!!

We'll let @talariaboys follow up with the video, but all modern controllers like KO and EBMX have mobile apps with a guided experience for the setup. As an example, in the intro screen when you first power up the controller after installation, it ask you what battery you are using. You can keep tuning and make further adjustments, but the basic setup is handled for you. For commuting, if you are running higher speeds for longer periods of time, 72v is preferable. The EBMX app allows you to adjust the field weakening, which gives higher top speed by reducing the magnetic strength at higher RPM's. This is one of many features that can easily be adjusted to fine tune the controller for each rider and riding style. Although you could upgrade the motor for monster power, your Sting R already has a strong IPM motor that can handle more power and higher top speed.

@@ChargedCycleWorks Hi, and what battery need if i ride mostly hard enduro style? (like with my KTM 300 EXC) On rocks, in creecks, long steep uphills , where i need tons of torque, and i don't want to ride 70+mph in woods, but i need minium 30-40miles of range?

Thought about doing this to a Talaria MX4 but I decided why not just get the Eride Pro SS. It comes with a 72v battery and 12kw motor. Plus its lighter weight and has stiffer front suspension. I am going to pick mine up this week locally and I cannot wait! I do like the gearbox design that the Talaria comes with though but I know I would end up upgrading things to make it faster and it would cost a bunch of money lol

So on the stock Sting R battery you're getting around 30 miles of range on trails and rocks/mixed use? I imagine swapping between eco and sport modes? I'm figuring out which bike I'm buying still, but battery options are a part of that. I ride single track in the mountains in oregon and wanna go to an electric. It's some dirt roads but mostly trails that vary from rocks to mud ruts up and down hills. I'll often ride 4-6 hours in a day going 35 miles or so. 50 on an extremely long day. Figuring if it's better to just get the big battery. Is the lid uncomfortable on that size? Pretty much debating between the Sting R and a Beta Explorer/Apollo RFN which comes stock with dirt bike wheels and a 74v battery, but I don't think anyone has larger/aftermarket batteries for those yet.

  • @Draxzy

I kinda wanna grab a 60 volt and grab a controller later on. The extra range is what makes me want an upgraded battery the most and the fact you can’t drop a 72v on a stock controller sucks. I’d love to just grab a 72 and a controller at once but that’s a big stack of cash plus if you wanted to upgrade the motor in case of overheating. Sheesh

I would just buy an Ultra Bee for 2k more then a Sting R, and not have to mess with batteries or controllers for 72v/12kW, but good information. The heavier battery and controller make the weight pretty close. For $14kish the Stark VARG is insane with over 60kW/80HP. E-bikes/motorcycles are getting crazy.
