New 3x3x3 PR: 24.31 seconds!
Спорт
This was my fastest 3x3x3 solve at this year’s Cuboss Open, and a new personal record too! What’s more, it was the fastest solve in my new PR average of 30.27 seconds. I’m very happy! 😎
Check out wca-seniors.org/Senior_Rankin... and you’ll see that this solve puts me at #13 in the world for my age group, just ahead of Lars Petrus, the inventor of the Petrus method.
If you like the duck, it came from here: killarneyduckstore.ie/product... 😎🦆
My cube is a DaYan TengYun “v1” M, which I’ve modified to make the white side black. You can buy it here: cuboss.se/shop/dayan-tengyun-...
The scramble (oriented with yellow top, green front):
B R' F2 U F2 U' B2 D2 R2 F' D' L2 F2 L D' B2 R2 B2
Reconstruction of the solve:
y // inspection [00:15]
B’ R L’ u L’ u // cross (6 = 6) [00:18]
L’ U’ L U2 L’ U’ L // F2L1 (7 = 13) [0:22]
R’ U2 R U2 L U L’ // F2L2 (7 = 20) [0:25]
U y R U’ R’ U2 L’ U L // F2L3 (8 = 28) [0:29]
U2 R’ F R F’ d’ L’ U’ L // F2L4 (9 = 37) [00:31]
U f’ L F L’ U’ L’ U L S // OLL (10 = 47) [00:35]
U y x’ R2 D2 R’ U’ R D2 R’ U R’ // PLL (10 = 57) [00:39]
57 / 24.31 = 2.34 TPS

For some odd reason, it is more satisfying to watch than records of much faster speedcubers. In their videos, it's often about beating everyone else's times. Here it's just a patient path to beat your own time.

That’s exactly it. I’m never giving up chasing sub-20, and if I don’t make it then I’ll just die trying 😂
There needs to be age brackets in the WCA, stuff like this should not go unnoticed. I'm sub-11 and this solve blows me away. Great stuff!

Agreed. Even just official stats and records on wca could be cool. Comps are definitely dominated by young kids so stuff like awards might be impractical to add, but more stats hopefully. I suppose they’d have to get ages from competitors and would be hard to retroactively update the record books, but worth considering imo. I’ll be a ‘master’ soon enough lol.
@sq-one

it's not official (though the age data is officially sourced), but there's a page that ranks competitors in age brackets. if you look up "wca senior rankings," you should be able to find it.

@@sq-one Oh nice, this is fun to look at. Will be interested to see how that develops in the future. Already pretty great times regardless of age, but anyone who’s 40 now was already a young adult really when WCA was starting in 2003. And the competitions were really scarce for a long time and exponentially took off in the last decade as well as cubing hardware and knowledge. Like most of the records are even faster than what I can do, but how much slower will 10 years make me. Surely some big names like Feliks will still be capable of sub-8.32 when he’s 40. Maybe I can snag some records if I age well which I think I can. Making a comeback lately getting my first 3x3 single pr in over 6 years.

So glad I came across your channel. I‘m 23 and started cubing 2 years ago. I can now solve the 2x2, 3x3, 4x4, Pyraminx and the mirror cube. Tomorrow my first Megaminx will arrive. I‘m still using the beginners methods for every cube and am now trying to learn f2l and get faster. I personally experience the cubing community as very welcoming and appreciative. I got looked at funny multiple times by people who don’t cube for starting cubing at 21: „Why playing with a kids toy at that age?“. Now here you are proving that you can always learn new things and find passion in a new hobby no matter the age. I hope you‘ll reach all your goals in cubing and just keep on enjoying it. :)

I started at 32, like 9 or 10 months ago. Never is late to enjoy a new hobby. Enjoy the beginning of the F2L method and don't worry if the times are the same or worse. Just don't rush, practice and enjoy. I'm sub 1min average with F2L intuitive and beginner at the third layer and never expected to do that. And that comes just solving with calm just for fun or fidgeting and seen some recurrent options with a big gap of time without timing myself.

I was wow this guy must be a Pro with your comment saying that you solve 2x2 3x3 4x4 Pyraminx and Mirror until I get to the part where you say "I’m still using the beginners method for every cube". Learn full CFOP for the 3x3 instead and you will feel Cubing least monotonous and more entertaining.
Great solve and have a great time 💯

Random tips for improvments: - Ideally, you want to plan your first F2L pair with the cross or have an idea where the two pieces are for your first F2L pair. - While solving a pair, you want to be looking for the next one. There should not be any pause. Practice this slowly and without pause! - You can recognise OLL and PLL without rotating the cube (seeing 3 faces is enough). - You should perform OLL and PLL much much faster. See Felix Zemdegs videos on OLL and PLL - Most cubers usually use the same hand to perform algorithms faster. For example, if you are right handed, you will use your left hand to hold the cube (sometimes use your index and a few other fingers from time to time) but that is your right hand that will do most of the work. - This is also why ideally you want your first solved F2L pair on the left side of the cube (ideally on the back). - There are many other tips but I will stop there :)
