Sometimes you have to tighten it for it to becomes loose. Used to do that with rail car hand wheels. It was strange but it worked. May be worth a try.

There definitely needs to be a 3 piece Duckbill that starts directly off the black bar/Subaru logo and has pieces that go above the tail lights. It would really help widen the wedgie trunk design and compliment the flares on the quarter panel. I've asked Aeroflow on YT and their QA insta posts but they never respond 😅

Years later Im looking into a GR86 and see you ended up having one making content for it too, how ironic. Break the lug nuts loose when the wheel is in the air and there is no load on them. If you don't it puts way too much pressure on the threads. A lot of people say to loosen on the ground but many designs depend on the lug nuts to help center the wheel so there is a ton of pressure on them while the car is sitting on the ground. So theoretically you could do some damage to threads over time. Also dealers do tend to just us an impact and dont even hand thread in the beginning.

Snapped every stud on 1 wheel trying to get them off. Rotating tires I snapped 4 out of 5 lug nuts on the other 3. Turns out 72-75 ft lbs is plenty tight. But I swapped to ARP studs and steel nuts because the factory hardware is garbage pot metal. WTF Subaru.

i never use locking lugs, ive broken waay too many of the locks in the threads. besides, if thieves want your wheels theyll find a way to take them off, regardless of wheel locks.

Time to invest on impact gun 😅

  • @ScottWakeman119

I've seen this same problem on other cars. In my case Hondas & Acuras (my soobs have been OK). For whatever reason the locking lug nuts were always like someone torqued the sh!t out of just those and the OEM lugs were fine. Maybe the metal is just different enough so they "stick" more to each other. As others have recommended, get yourself a length of iron pipe for just these occasions. Good for leverage and intruders 🙂I doubt you'll break the stud, might strip out the security key but likely not IMO. Little bit of penetrating oil over night, maybe some heat from a heat gun - worst case. This is why I put a *tiny* dab of anti-sieze on the surface of the lug nuts that contact the rim (not the threads).

Kevin, get an impact tool, like a bigger Milwaukie for example, they help with situations like this.

So now I should go check mine I guess... under 2k miles. Pray for me. If I find mine are the same it will go to dealer for proper torque. Not even a question. Nearly 40 grand for a car it had better have properly torqued lugs. Glad I came across your vid. Good luck.

An impact is cheaper to buy and very useful compared to not buying one. I learned my lesson when I broke my lug nut, didn't snap the stud which would have been better. Invest into an impact

@@KevinVo well then lol, I bet the impact would have taken it right off, no sweat, wish I had an impact, I took probably 5+ hours trying to drill out my broken lug and stud enough to take my wheel off

I take the bar off my floor jack and slide it over the socket wrench, essentially making it a huge breaker bar. should remove it easily with little force

obviously still a chance of breaking the stud but being brand new, i'm sure just needs a little oomph and should come off
