Mazda's new CX-70 and its year-old CX-90 kin are both moderate size SUVs that follow a comparable format to contenders like the Jeep Terrific Cherokee and Great Cherokee L. The CX-70 is a two-line offering that seats five travelers, while the CX-90 has three columns and can situate up to eight. We believe Mazda's choice to offer two separate nameplates is peculiar, however, on the grounds that the CX-70 is a virtual twin to the CX-90 - a similar size just without the rearmost column of seats. (The Terrific Cherokee L is longer generally speaking with a more extended wheelbase.) Furthermore, the CX-70 offers the equivalent inline-six and module half and half powertrains as its kin, with the main genuine differentiators for the CX-70 being inside and outside trim choices in addition to a revamped freight region. In view of our involvement in the CX-90 we expect the CX-70 will be a correspondingly sumptuous and refined SUV. We're simply not certain why it's pitched as an alternate model given the that the two are basically indistinguishable yet for their number of seats.
