New 2024 Hyundai i10 Review | Better Than A VW up!?

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Today on Buckle Up, Rob does an in-depth review of the new 2023 Hyundai i10 N-Line.
The i10 is Hyundai's smallest offering in the UK, but that doesn't mean it's small on tech or luxury features. With heated seats and a heated steering wheel, as well as lane keep assist, autonomous emergency braking and cruise control, this little car is aiming big!
But how will it compare to rivals such as the Volkswagen up!, Toyota Aygo X, Citroen C1, Peugeot 108, Skoda Citigo, Seat Mii and Kia Picanto.

    I have the 2021 N-Line, and yes, I did. Hyundai have done more than just slap a body-kit and a turbo on the i10 for the N-Line; it's got larger, lower-profile tyres and noticeably stiffer suspension compared to the standard i10. . Initially I found the ride was actually a little on the uncomfortably-firm side for the first 8000 miles or so, then it softens up as the car gets run-in a little. I like it though. Still gets good mileage, excellent range (about 420 miles on a full tank), and it's an involving drive without being desperately slow. The N-Line is noticeably zippier than the standard models.

    It barely sipped any fuel in the week I had it as a press loan, so I’m surprised to hear you think it drinks fuel. In my experience, having driven every Hyundai on sale, Waze and Google maps operate better in conjunction with Apple Car Play or Android Auto than the cars standard systems. It’s personal preference, but Waze definitely does all the things you’ve mentioned above and more.

    Did this test car have the nav option? The standard i10 N-line has camera-only Speed Limit Warning which is unreliable and drives me nuts beeping repeatedly to tell me I'm speeding when I'm not... I wonder if the nav version uses GPS to augment the camera? If so, it would be a valuable upgrade to avoid the need to scroll through several menu options to disable the 'Intelligent' Speed Limit Warning every time the car is started.

    The annoying bonging is now mandatory on every new car in the UK. You can turn it off but, by law, it’s supposed to come back on every time you start the car again.

  • @hgihgiu

    @hgihgiu

    7 ай бұрын

    @@BuckleUpShow The problem is that the camera-only implementation in the i10 is quite poor. I have 2024 i10 N-Line and the bonging is driving me nuts, often when I am not actually exceeding the speed limit just that the camera has missed or interpreted signs incorrectly. At present the Hyundai camera-only system is not really fit for purpose, the manual has a full page of caveats describing when it might not work. Hence my question about whether the GPS-assisted variant is any better. I'd strongly recommend potential buyers take a test drive with the system enabled (make sure the dealer doesn't temporarily switch it off) or go for the 2023 model. This is a great car with little else like it in the market at present, but potentially ruined by faulty 'safety' systems which are so annoying that they verge on being dangerous

  • @BuckleUpShow

    @BuckleUpShow

    Every new car uses road sign recognition for this system, the navigation makes no difference as it can be outdated in 5 minutes. We’ve experienced it reading signs wrong in pretty much every make and model we’ve been in. Get used to it because you will not be able to buy a new car without it from now on.

    Hi Rob - Hyundai UK have now confirmed that there is an issue with Intelligent Speed Limit Warning failing to identify national sign speed limit signs. When going from a 30 or 40 zone to an area governed by non-numeric sign (black diagonal line) the 2024 i10 doesn't recognise this and the ISLW system retains the previous speed limit. You get bonged 4 times the first time you exceed this limit and then again (4 times) every time you slow down and re-exceed the erroneous limit. Nightmare when driving on country roads with repeated variations in speed. I assume that you must have disabled ISLW when you were testing - or just not slowed down for corners! No idea when Hyundai think they may be able to fix this - suspect that they are flummoxed by the fact that non-numeric signs can designate multiple speed limits depending on road type. In the meantime potential buyers need to be aware. Either put up with it or go through a laborious set of menu options each time you start the car. Don't even think about trying to disable on the move, you'll end up in a hedge.

  • @BuckleUpShow

    @BuckleUpShow

    If it’s such an issue for owners, they should be turning the system off when they start the car until Hyundai fixes it.
