New 2024 Honda Shadow Phantom 750 Review | Rebel 500 VS VT750... Better?

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

New 2024 Honda Shadow Phantom 750 Review: Specs, Features, Accessories, Riding + More! Today, we're taking a closer look at the latest, new cruiser motorcycle to be released by Honda. It's one of the last v-twin motorcycles in Honda's motorcycle model lineup, next to the Shadow Aero 750 and Fury 1300 as the new 2024 Rebel 300 / 2024 Rebel 500 and 2024 Rebel 1100 models all use a variation of single cylinder engine or parallel twin engines. Which is a far cry from the days when we had more v-twin models like the Shadow RS, Spirit 750, Spirit 1100, Aero 1100, VTX 1300 and VTX1800 models and the list goes on and on!

Unbelievable that Honda went to the effort to upgrade the Phantom's looks and the brakes to discs front and rear, ABS as an option, and even added LED turn signals, but didn't upgrade the headlight to LED. Come on Honda, it's 2023, and there's no excuse to sell a bike with halogen headlights, especially when even the Grom and Rebel 300 have LEDs. This is something I would expect of Kawasaki.

They need to get rid of the inner tube tires. A flat tire is a big deal on this bike where it could be a simple plug kit if they'd change the wheels. I can't see doing a road-side tube repair.

I hate how harley got out of thr 900 1200 segment. I rode a 1600 vulcan a 2000. Theyve got the 900 and the 1700 which are the only vulcans today. I just liked 1600 for the trips but i like crf300l because its light but if you have a 1200 1100 it gives you a little lighter than those huge giant bikes but youve still got the power. A vulcan 1200 wpuld he pretty dope to me as well as like a honda shadow 1200 because the kawasaki would probbaly he belt drive but the honda shaft drive and i perfer both of those strategies compared to just straight chain final drive whuch is what keeps me from looking at like a rebel 1100. The great thing about the shadow is its shaft drive big gas tank correct genre for going the distance. Except 750cc sucks on the interstate. Imagine if it was exactly the exact same bikes but simply with like a 1200cc vtwin instead of 750 and 900. 6 speed ans cruise control fsctory call it quits there. Keeo thr good paint jobs coming gotta keep em selling nothing boring. Gotta be a soul in it man a love for the game. A uniqueness a peculiarity

I'm sure in many cases, these videos equate directly to sales, I know when I bought my 22 ATAS, your detailed videos gave me the push to slap down the $$, so c'mon Honda US, get behind creators that are doing a chunk of your marketing for you free of charge.

Thanks a million bud! I put a lot of time into these so the kind words are greatly appreciated ;) I wish they would... sadly, the views just aren't there to make this sustainable and I've drained my bank accounts, racked up waaaay too much debt and sold every toy I owned over the last 3 years to try and make this work but it's just not made it to the point to where I can rely on it, strictly off of KZread's Adsense and I haven't been able to secure any sponsors to help carry the load. Thank you for sharing that I was helpful in your ATAS, that means more than you know and I love reading those comments when people share them as I miss seeing people's faces at the dealership when people would come back and talk about how much they loved their new ride and share stories etc from their rides. I really miss shooting the breeze with fellow riders like that and seeing their excitement. While I'd love for Honda to step in with support, so I don't have to leave this behind as I'm in the middle of searching for a job right now but I just don't see it happening. In the grand scheme of things, I'm a nobody and if I disappear - it won't put a dent in things. I can't say thank you enough for the kind words and support... without it, I wouldn't have made it this far in this crazy endeavor and it means more than you know!

  • @JLRide
    @JLRide5 ай бұрын

Beautiful motorcycle! I love the new updated looks and new rear disc brakes as well as the ABS now being an option. No complaints there. The issue I have is that the horsepower from this old engine is too close to the Rebel 500 and with its extra weight, making it slower to a bike that is noticeably more affordable. It doesn't need to be as powerful as the Rebel 1100 but somewhere between the Rebel 500's 45 hp and the Rebel's 1100's 80 hp would've been a really nice, sweet spot to generate a lot more sales and differentiate itself a lot more from the Rebel 500 for its extra cost. I am thinking closer to 60 horsepower, and it would be a real option for many cruiser shoppers without stepping on the toes of its Rebel siblings. So, so close Honda.

I really like the 2024 Shadow Phantom. I was going to buy the 2023 last year but I wanted ABS, and that was difficult to find outside of the Aero. The new fenders, new seat design, and ABS option make this an attractive model. I think the 2024 will develop a cult following.

I don't understand why there is such a limited choice of colors, there are just 3 parts colored, so it is not so complicated to change when customers prefer a color that is not in stock. Just have enough different colored parts, like the tank, the front and back splasher and you are way more flexible. Don't let a customer walk out the door due to the colors, just exchange the parts.

Yeah buddy, that orange is absolutely B-E-A-UTIFUL! I think they nailed it on both color schemes, which is a rarity. Well, the real "rarity" there though when looking at Honda's track record lately is that we actually have more than one color lol! Ayy, that's cool! Did you have the DC or C2 Spirit? I was selling those back in the day when Honda made the transition from the chain drive (DC) Spirit to the shaft drive (C2) in 2007 and went from the 19" to 21" front wheel among other little tweaks and it really sent sales soaring for that bike. It was really the hayday for the Shadow 750 model lineup as then we had the RS and Phantoms being thrown in the mix with the Spirit and Aero. Plus the Shadow 1100 models, VTX1300 and VTX1800 lineups - to say Honda had a few cruisers in the time is an understatement lol! The part that blows my mind though is that we haven't seen even a 1 horsepower increase to this engine since back then... WILD! As always bud, appreciate ya ;)

Oh yeah, you've got think this thing would do well over there! It's a shame you guys haven't seen a v-twin cruiser from Honda in over a decade now. What I'd give if we could all buy anything from the Honda brand without having to worry about a country's emissions or just the fact that they think it won't sell well there, so they won't import it etc. I'd go broke if that were the case though as they make waaaay too many cool things on the other side of the world that I'd "need" lol! Now that's an interesting take! I haven't seen many asking for chrome pipes or an aluminum colored engine, compared to the blacked out setup but we're all different so I appreciate ya hopping in the conversation and sharing. While personally, I think the blacked out engine with the machined fins look better than an all-silver engine - I think it would be interesting to see a set of chrome pipes on these. It might add just the right amount of flare to an otherwise blacked out bike and really make it pop but it might look a little wonky since there's not really any chrome for it to play off of. Makes me want to go slap a set of 2023 pipes on the 2024 real quick lol! Oh yeah, the Rebel 500 is hard to beat and the $2,000 saved on it over this Phantom - could buy a lot of cool stuff! I'm glad we've got a few options in this segment as the more options, the better as we all like and want different things out of our bikes.

Ohhh yeah, I like your thinking! It'd be nice to see a more performance oriented Phantom with some real horsepower behind it. Yes, the Rebel 1100 fills that void pretty well with some real performance behind it BUT... the styling and riding position among other things aren't for everyone and a lot of people still want a v-twin these days. On the other hand though, the cruiser segment isn't what it used to be when it comes to sales numbers. But one could ask, is it because people's "wants" are changing or is it because there are a LOT more options nowadays than there was back in their hay day etc. Appreciate ya watching and hopping in the conversation bud ;)

  • @HondaProKevin

Honda discontinued the VTX1300R/T/C/S models back in 2009 for the VT1300 lineup to takeover in 2010 with the Sabre, Stateline, Fury and Interstate models. Sadly, their sales weren't the best as the cruiser market started to lose more and more of their market share so those VT1300 models were slowly discontinued over the coming years, while the Fury (VT1300CX) is the last one to keep going. Long story short though, cruiser sales aren't what they used to be and really started to taper off - so Honda started giving some of the axe. It's pretty wild to look back in the 2000s and how we had a TON of VT750 models, VT1100 models, VTX1300 models, VTX1800 models and then the tiny little Rebel 250 to round things off. Back then though, we didn't have as many options in other segments from dual sport, adventure, standard, touring to sport touring etc and all of those new options = less buyers for cruisers. It's been super interesting to see how things have changed over the years, that's for sure! I kind of rambled on but I hope that maybe answers your question. Appreciate ya watching and hopping in the conversation bud ;)

@@laurentleplat333 Yeah I tried both of them but did not like both. The lack of torque and caracter of the Rebel 500, and some annoying vibrations of the Vulcan. Apart from that, some weldings in the Rebel were horrible. The Rebel 1100 is a temptation, but I prefer chromed parts for a cruiser rather than black paint. Sure that japanish makers are going to bring real cruisers in the future because chinese brands will do it soon.

Great changes so far, but not enough.. no fuel gauge/trip meter, etc. No electronic cruise (can't tell me that wouldn't be awesome with 56 mpgs) - ( maybe a larger tank to go 300 miles too?) 6 speeds? Idk everything is 6 speed, it seems and the DCT tech is pretty cool Imo, I don't mind the "less performance " of the bike/engine long as it does what it needs to ,and does it well ( i.e . cruising, commuting, touring, etc etc). I'm not a huge bobber fan, but for a little more money, the 1100 rebel has this bike spanked very badly in value I think

I will do a lot of highway miles, so a 6th gear would have been nice. To save gas, I don't want a bigger displacement bike. If anything I want the engine to shrink. Maybe a 500 shaft drive. Oh yeah, a 6th gear to keep the rpms down on this bike when on the interstate / highway etc - would be money! ...I would like to see them throw a couple more ponies at this thing though as they haven't touched the performance on it, in about 20 years now. I would like CVT transmission, and a very soft ride. It must have a fuel gauge and big bright lights. Bad lights are a death sentence, and in Thailand 1 in 5 bikes have a problem with blown globes, dull or dirty lights, trendy small or dim lights. Then there are the idiots that don't turn their lights on, saving their battery? Or don't want to dazzle oncoming traffic? Riders think if they can see under street lights that they can be seen. Motorcycles have a history of under designed lights born with 6 volt batteries and magnetos and perpetuated by incompetent manufacturers. After market lights fitted to my Hondas failed due to water ingress within 12 months. Otherwise I like the bike. We have 9 Honda bikes, all 160cc or less. Most reliable machines.

Honda will never change the number one thing that everyone without exception wants the most. Add another gear on their traditional cruisers to make them more capable on the interstates. They need to either give us 6 gears or at least make the 5 gears a little taller, especially the 5th one. The very least they could do is change the bike to belt drive and then offer different pulley sizes as options to change the gearing. Of course Honda will never do any of that. The only real option if you want a more capable Honda cruiser on the highway is to get a Honda rebel 1100. The only problem with that is that for people who like a traditional cruiser look and want a beautiful bike, you won't get that on the Honda rebel 1100. Instead, you will get a motor that looks like someone ate a bunch of pipes and wires and hoses and then threw up and then painted the pile of scrap junk black so it wouldn't be noticed as much.

Neither one of them is designed very well. If you buy a bike, look at it like you'll have to take it completely apart someday, and put it all back together, as a system. When you do that, you'll see all these bikes a whole different way beyond the pretty, and see all the future PITA you'll have to face. The old classic Honda Rebel, or the old bikes from the early 70's, start to look really good then... I look at my Honda Shadow, and I'm like.. there is no way I'd ever be able to replace the heads on this thing...
