You can slug liquid into the compressor if it is upside down. Liquids can't compress, so you can damage the compressor by injecting liquids into the suction side. Pressure is directly related to temperature.

And when ADDING Freon, DO NOT depend only on amount of Freon to add and low/high pressure readings, but most importantly, AMBIENT TEMPERATURE at moment Freon is being added. One thing is to be sure its not over pressured, if so you should vacuum it out (some people just let all the freon out to zero pressure low side with car OFF), then refill at least until pressure is within green range AND its blowing cold too (should be 44F to 50F typically). Good vid. I prefer the longer hose so it can stay out of the way (some cars have Low side fitting way down by the compressor, hard to reach and keep can out of radiator fans.

Hi Paul, I have a 2005 Pontiac Vibe base model, (essentially a Toyota Corolla), that I'm told has a failing compressor. Hasn't failed yet completely, but it's failing and the air is not getting as cold as it should. I'm planning to replace the compressor. The condenser was just replaced 2 years ago so I am assuming the condenser is still OK. What do you recommend as far as chemically flushing out the AC system prior to the repair? Do you think that is necessary being the compressor hasn't completely failed yet? Also, I've heard if you're going to replace a compressor you should also replace the expansion valve. That would cost me almost a $1000 in labor just to get to that thing due to having to remove the dash, I assume.. Do you think it is necessary for me to replace the expansion valve at this time also?

LOW refrigerant does not mean a bad compressor- it means a leak. Refrigerant is not consumed it leaks out sometimes. Finding the leak and replacing oil and refrigerant after a fix is indicated. The low pressure switch can prevent compressor clutch from engaging also. Just a couple things to consider if you are a do it yourself kind of guy. Thank you for sharing with us. nice help video

Even when the clutch on the compressor disengages during the on/off cycles of the compressor. You can audible here the clutch click on and off every now and then. Over fill or under fill or allow air in, won't cool. Sight glass is an import thing and on top of the receiver / dryer. Bubbles while running, low! Very few bubbles not so much & certainly not a can. Bubbles gone, stop! Once off, count up to 15 seconds and not bubbles but level in sight glass drop. System is done. Overfilled if level never drops and use a good light! Check 28 other issues and done. Most likely, compressor shaft seal. Not easy to replace as it is buried with compressor off. Lube O-rings W/R12 lube as R134a is hydrophobic and draws moisture into threads. It will peel aluminum threads off if it moves! Have a lucky one! DK,,ASE Master since 78, retired.

Good lesson. Question... Should you check the pressure in the system BEFORE adding any 134a? If so, how?

curious why you didn't make any mention of the "recirculate" button when you started the car and set the AC on max.

Thanks for the video. I will be using it to recharge the wife's car this weekend. Hopefully this is all that is wrong. It would be a blessing to not have to spend hundreds or even thousands to get it working again. We are in Southwest Louisiana and buddy it is HOT and HUMID here. Thanks again!

Ben Fontenot make sure you tilt the can of refrigerant back and forth slowly from 12 o’clock to 3 o’clock when adding the refrigerant.

Usually if you have a leak, it is only the small seal at the compressor. Usually a green or red seal. Easy fix.

If it looses the Freon or and makes a pshhh.his en sound and starts blowing hot smoke and blows hot air? Does this mean my a/c compressor locked cuz I was on a stand still with a/c on for 30 mins or less
