it also has an exposed trigger. If a rodent jumps on top, they could possibly sabotage the trigger. The design is not bad, it actually worked. If it was made out of metal, or metal mesh, it may have been worth the money.

They probably had a good deal with a HDPE molding factory, and they knew they could make some money selling poorly made-crap with a huge mark-up. They will likely make only one production run and move on to some other scam product.
Let's just take a moment to realize that he spent his money on a trap he knew wouldn't work, for us. Stay safe Shawn, and keep doing what you love!

That trap saved that mouse's life. I watched in slow motion, the rat was pouncing on it, but its snout hit the container and scared it.

Thats Shawn’s trained enforcer rat. It’s job is to keep mice in crappy traps.
Although completely irrelevant to the trap deisng, I found it fascinating how the trap under regular light appears transluscent but under IR looks completely transparent.
@amieres

The rat probably also sees the trap as transparent that's why it attacked the mouse like it wasn't inside it.
You could easily fix the flaw with a few fender washers glued on the inside of those holes... Can't nibble through stainless steel!

I liked the fact that the rat thought it had an easy meal of the mouse and ran right into the side of the trap. Real surprise for rat. It's a good thing that the mouse didn't have his head out or the rat might have killed it.

Rats like to prey on mice. The rat probably saw the mouse and wanted to eat it.
@LateralTwitlerLT
2 жыл бұрын
I think what happened was: -it's pitch dark inside that barn; the rats and mice go by smell, whisker's touch, and hearing, instead of sight. The rats smell the mice around there 24/7, and most likely have no intention of feeding on them, but rather eat the same food (grain, vegetables etc, plus Shawn Woods place bait on the regular inside these barns to film rodents getting caught, so they're well aware and used to food being placed/stored there) - the rat smelled the bait, but could not see where it was, nor see what it was placed inside of, or even that it was inside an object - when the rat came close, it heard the mice (but couldn't see it) inside the trap, and that noise was so unfamiliar and sudden, the rat got spooked and - in a defensive maneuver - both kicked towards the unknown entity (aka the trap with the sound of something living) and at the same produced a burst of acceleration for its escape run by doing so. - see also how the trapped mouse don't notice or react to another mouse running by on the outside until it has already went past, as a clue to how dark and difficult it is to see, and that they use smell and hearing to orientate themselves Sorry for the essay.

3:33 clean workmanship, no crumbs spilled outside
That clear trap was perfect to show the mouse in action
OMG! I've always thought people said a mouse could go through a space no thicker than a dime and a rat could go through one no thicker than a quarter. That never made sense to me. It makes so much more sense if the space is not bigger (around) than a dime or a quarter. DAH!

even if you don't want the whole trap to be metal, just cover the air holes with metal rings.
Metal Grommets or eyelets in the holes would've made them un-chewable. I'd like to see a test with this alteration.
The trap seems to be a good concept. Honestly seen absolutely so point in having those airholes because it looked like between the door and the container itself was plenty space space air. Also would be better if the top where the trigger is exposed was covered alittle bit
The coolest thing about this trap is that the "night vision" IR camera sees right through it as though it were clear.
2:25 the rat was like quiet, I have a hang over.
It's a shame that mouse trap design is pretty good but just a single flaw make the trap unusable
It’s interesting how the night camera makes the plastic more translucent.
@LeesChannel

Meanwhile water and some transparent plastic and glass is opaque. It's because the night vision cameras use infrared.
Man, that rat was rude son.
One of my favorite channels. Thanks for doing what you do!
I have one of those except instead of plastic, it's a metal cage. And uses gravity instead of a spring. It's simple, old, and rusty but still works every time.
It's a good thing it was a twin pack. That one had a big hole in the back.
That mouse was trolling, by going back in and out several times.
That's exactly why mice never wear necklaces! They don't have shoulders and the necklace keeps falling off! I love your videos. Very entertaining and educational!
Well I guess a Q tip, a littkle vaseline, and a drop of cyanide or strychnine, mix well and lube those air hole edges - and no mouse gonna chew outta my trap !!!
The rat smacking into the trap was the best part lmao
Thank you Shawn. I appreciate your hard work. Please continue to show us these devices... Good and bad.
That mouse watched the Shawshank Redemption. It just needed a tiny Raquel Welch poster to hide the hole.
Here in the DR we use a very similar rat trap made out of welded mesh. They are the best but I don't understand why. You would catch 5 rats in one of them for every 1 rat in a basic kill trap. Here rats will not bite on peanut butter either. The best bait is salami and cooked rice. I hang the salami on the wire and sprinkle cooked rice all around and inside the trap. It works great but only one catch at a time. I bought a wooden dunk trap, recommended on this channel and will try it soon. 👍

Thanks Shawn great work Sir

Jail break! LOL! He even went back in to finsh eating the bait!
Sets down trap Squirrel: "I'M GONNA WRECK IT"
1:33: Love those squirrels. 1:37: Love those big bushy squirrel tails.
LOL the squirrel that ran and up hit the trap was like to the muse you stay in there
Haha, that mouse was like a furry rodent Houdini. I lol'd after he escaped and then went back for the bait, and then did it a second time. He was acting like the trap belonged to him, "Yeah, I just come to chill here in the summer, it's nbd."
I think the funniest part of the whole episode was when the mouse crawled back into the trap to keep eating.
So if some wire mesh over a frame was used for the body it would be a good design? The trap mechanism seems to work great and any sized body could work. Even a secondary holding area. Maybe they should just sell the mechanism to DIY ers
One thing that could help is if a counterweight was attached to the trigger. Then when the trap goes off, it would be thrown into a vertical position, where the mouse couldn't reach the air holes. Of course, that's just an overcomplicated fix when smaller air holes would be an easier solution.
I love how the squirrel came back and was like TAG!! HAHA
I'm expecting the mouse to chew the air holes.
3:09 BOSS move: I'm gonna go back in. ALL YOUR BAIT BELONG TO US!
On a side note, pretty cool that plastic is foggy to visible light but totally clear to IR.
So this one might be good for a few mice on the proviso that you react immediately to deal with the mouse when it gets triggered.
LOL. Those mice made a total mockery of that 'trap'. Thanks for showing us this flawed thing.
Mouse 1: Oh no, we're trapped! Mouse 2: Hold my cheese!
now that is a smart mouse. genius behavior to figure out that you need to get out of there ASAP
2:41 - 3:20 - Talk about adding insult to injury.
in my country, this style of trap is very popular, the different is that it use metal grate instead plastic. depends on how smart the rat is, this trap will often fail to catch a rat
I took one look at the air holes on the trap and thought, "well, a mouse would get through one of those in a matter of seconds and a rat would chew that into an escape hole in a matter of minutes!"
Mice could chew through concrete. They did to get in my house through a vent. I plugged it up with steel wool and cement.
Maybe you could glue metal washers over the air holes (preferably on the inside) to reinforce them. I wonder how the mouse would go chewing through the flat wall plastic?
Wooo i love it when the mouse wins! Good going mouse.
"He chewed himself a backdoor and turned this mouse trap into a all night feeding station!" 😒🤦♂️🤣🤣

what if you took metal wire mesh and lined the inside of the air-hole area with it?

He went back in just to rub it in. Amazon strikes again.
Mouse after escaping- "well that was embarrassing- hope no one saw that!"
“Obviously, that’s not the name of this trap” 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Over the years I have heard that dismal gnawing sound in my walls and ceiling. Hopefully never again!
That rat thought he had him a nice mouse meal.
Would it have worked better if the holes were pin sized instead? Or would the mice have clawed it open anyway? Very thin plastic.
the mouse just trolling going back inside a few more times lol
That was nice of the rat to center the mouse for the video
Love that the mouse got back in, just to mock this silly trap right in time for April fools day!
The fact the mouse kept going back into the trap to keep eating was a big FU to the trap 😂
You could glue metal washers to the air holes to prevent them chewing their way out.
@johncoops6897

They would just chew through the other end, near the main door.
would be cool if you remake that trap so it actually works! That'd be a entertaining vid to watch.
If the could have put some metal bushings (not sure that is what they are called in the holes, just to protect the holes themselves, they would have had a successful trap
