I shoot A priority always set to wide open for my Pro lenses, ISO starting at 1600. Front dial is exposure comp that I use it to force the shutter speed to go slower until the highlight blinkies are lit up, then back off (unless the over exposed areas are not important to the image). Since the majority of my images are birds\wildlife I keep an eye on shutter speed trying to go as slow as I can to get rid of motion (camera or subject) blur depending on the scene or a hint of subject motion if I want it. If I need more shutter speed I bump up ISO using a front button. My schtick is to call this ETTRish. It sounds complex & time consuming but with a little practice it becomes muscle memory & quick, especially if I preset it on something in the scene that I want to the subject to be in when I shoot. (Variations of this approach is set in C modes for most encountered use cases - Static, BIF, ProCapture)

As always your advice is excellent I have used the highlight notification but now I finally have the best explanation ever of info one two and three which means now I can set them correctly for my use....Merci

Thanks for explaining this. I use the flashing "zebra pattern" to alert blown out highlights on my Panasonic, which is great. OM seems far ahead in this with its more visible colored areas, and alerting to underexposed? Now that's a feature I never knew I needed, but now I do!

Yes, the OM SYSTEM cameras definitely have a lot of computational technology that you can't find in other brands. Makes our life easier as photographers.

It’s excellent advice been using it for a while with the em1 mk3 and certainly makes a difference once use to it. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

I have been using the highlight alert for about 6 or 8 months now and keep it on all the time. Also for most of my photography I use manual mode to set my aperture and shutter speed with the ISO set to auto.

Interesting Emilie. I have not used this but will have a look. Wonder if it will be much use to me when shooting animals, birds and insects that are moving extremely fast. I never use peaking or zebra. Tend to use WYSIWYG in the EVF and nearly always shoot manual mode with maybe auto ISO. Not so easy to get exposure spot on with black and white ha ha 🤨😏🥰

Highly recommend it. Even with fast moving subject. You will use this so much as you can see the blown-out highlight as you are shooting and can readjust. Game changer in my opinion

Is this feature on the EM1 Mk1 too?

Paul is correct. As I mentioned in my video you do see the alter live and also when you are reviewing your image.

Note that there are two “Info Settings” in that menu. The top one is the ‘live’ setup.
