'Never Let Me Go': Theme of Humanity

What is humanity?
How does it link to 'Never Let Me Go'?
Is the novel really about clones and science fiction, or is that just a method for exploring what it means to be human?

This warms the reader to her and makes them feel as if she is human, so we feel compassion and empathy for her situation. You can analyse Ishiguro's narrative voice in ANY question and ANY theme, so make sure you check out my video on that too!

She's not really nice... we feel empathy for her because of Ishiguro's use of first person narrative voice, but some better adjectives to describe her could be things like 'passive'. I don't think she's nice really... I think she's a bit of a pathetic character!

And also the idea of treating someone humanely, eg. showing compassion or benevolence.

Kathy is only favoured by the reader because we only hear from her point of view

Grapefruit Bum What's Ishiguro's purpose? Does he was us to sympathise with the clones, or with the rest of humanity who rear them in often 'deplorable conditions' for their organs? Do you think if Ishiguro had written it from Miss Emily's point of view, or Madame's, we'd sympathise with them?

Yep. I also think that if it had been put in Tommy's point of view then we'd probably find out why he kept throwing tantrums

Grapefruit Bum I think he keeps throwing tantrums because he is scared. All the clones deal with their fear in different ways: Tommy's tantrums, Ruth's lying, and Kathy's avoidance. See my video on the theme of fear for more :)
