Purity culture is strong in the US, that alone messes up peoples feeling around sex. Then there’s the extra shame instilled by families, at church, etc about having sex, experiencing pleasure, and even just having a body. That fear/shame can make people do very strange things In my late teens I knew conservative Christian people who would have an•l, in their hetero relationships, because it “wasn’t really sex” and they “were still pure for marriage”… (no judgement for people who enjoy an•l, that’s just not what it was about for them) TL;DR: people may actually be ‘soaking’ 😟

It's also why there is a legitimate reason to have polygamy. What are the unattractive women supposed to do? Just sit there alone forever? If no other man is willing to step in and be with them, and a married man is, and the woman wants it, who are we to judge?

I was just talking to a Mormon friend, he went to the beach with other friends, also mormon, and he said these two guys apparently were spooning each other and they said it was for "funsies.” Is that a form of Levi Lovin’? I’m also curious about closeted mormons and how they go about their faith.

And I realized suddenly it wasn't just normal checking out girls that even straight people do it was ShEs HOT... And then my next thought was ...wait it's not a choice? What else is the church wrong about? So yeah I went from straight to out of the closet and also fully not believing in the church anymore

@@kerrysmiles thank you for sharing this. When I was in high school my best friend who’s also mormon would tell me things like “Being gay is like your taste in food, you choose wether you like chocolate or not you’re not born with it.” But that analogy never quite fully made sense to me. I also noticed some things where he seemed as if he might’ve been closeted but he’s now married and with a kid. We don’t talk anymore, last time I saw him was at his father funeral service, I was the only one from his high school friends that went and he did not say a single word to me.

"Sweet spirit", "good personality,' etc., _all_ awful terms, and apparently everyone has a version of it? You KNOW it's actually insulting when you wouldn't say that to her face, _she_ knows what it means too. I've had someone ask me if a guy (someone a sibling was seeing) was good looking, and I replied, "I don't know, he's ugly inside" - because his awful character coloured any objective physical attractiveness. I was told that if you didn't know him, you'd probably consider him attractive, but - as stated - I did have the misfortune of knowing who he was 'under the skin.' Those 'sweet spirit'/'good personality' comments are so unkind ... and physical beauty standards go in and out of fashion, and can be taken away very quickly by accident or illness. Sorry. That is just one of those things that riles me up, I've known more than one girl who's been emotionally damaged - when their self-esteem is.already a fragile thing - because this kind of commentary got back to them.

I am a Mormon (technically we have moved away from that nick name but whatever) and current BYU student and here is my view on all of these phrases/actions NCMO: she got it spot on, it’s kinda a booty call. But like I think it’s something people can understand Levi lovin’: honestly I mostly just head people referring to it as durfing, but that could just be my group of friends. Soaking: I honestly don’t know of anyone who soaks but again that could just be from my group of people. But from what I see 90% of people look down on it (atleast outwardly). Fill your canteen: during my mission some missionaries would mention doing this (so it does happen) but not the majority or even close to that. Sweet spirit: I don’t know if I’ve ever heard someone actually say this, most people would just say “she’s nice but I’m not attracted to her,” or along those lines. Although I do admit this could be subject to my experience and the people I’m around, so there could be varying experiences across different people.
