    Same exact thing here. I'm desperate to fix my schedule. Sometimes I'll stay awake like 35 hours (a miserable experience) Then I'll go to bed at like 9 pm, attempting to fix my sleep schedule, but I'll wake up 2 hours later and my body won't let me go back to sleep until 5 am, keeping my schedule the same. It's been that way for the past 2 years and I can't even function the right way during daylight hours anymore. I'm stuck.

    This resonates so much! My housemate is asleep and awake at completely random times during a 24h cycle. I'm doing my best to find another place but until then I'm slowly losing it to entropy.

    Dear Elliot, I am so happy to see you talk about life. I did go through tough time where my body was in pain from wear and tear over the years. I did not know where I was heading but I discovered a light in the dark. I was 28 when I decided I have to do something about my life and start doing yoga to fix my body. I couldn't sneeze standing up without going down on my knee to suppress the shocking pain I couldn't bear. I was so scared that I was going to be like this for the rest of my life. Yoga became my best friend. I realized being flexible and calm is essential to be happy in my life. I was 9 years old when I was this pain free as of now. I never took care of myself but it only took 4 years to be pain free and relaxed. What I'm lacking is strength. I am not a dedicated person unless I am interested. Discipline is only there when I'm doing yoga and playing the guitar. You make me feel powerful, strong, and self-centered. I really missed seeing you chat about life. I still remember the video you made about taking care of yourself for over 40. I ordered Livingfuel and enjoy the sensation of feeling great. You have been an inspirational teacher that I looked up to since I started my journey to stronger self. This video was so powerful it will be rememberred in my soul for good. Thank you for being an amazing person and I hope to see more of your videos. Thank you.

    As someone who's watched your channel for a little over 3 years, I haven't been feeling your recent videos. I didn't dislike them, but they weren't resonating with me like you have been able to in the past. The closest one to relevance for me was the information constipation one, but even that one was only mildly revelatory. This one was a return to form, and resonated deep with where I am now. You have reminded me why I keep coming back to your channel. As someone who was raised with a fixed mindset, watching you has helped me adopt a growth mindset and begin to value the work more than the result, and more importantly, to value myself in all my stages. Thank you. I appreciate you.

    This is so powerful. Elliott, I relate strongly to the story you shared about getting out of your rhythms and rituals. I just went on a trip to Ireland for a friend’s wedding, and experienced much of the same. Slept terribly, drank a lot, didn’t meditate, etc. Rituals trump everything. Because if we can’t be aligned and calibrated, how will we affect everything around us ? Thank you so much, man! So inspiring. And it’s funny watching this about a year or two after I originally watched it. Like you said, the cyclical/ups and downs of life. Much love !

    been out of school for a few years now. i'm a digital artist working in the comic book industry so i get to work at home. sleeping pattern was fucked i'm back home with mum and she wants me to work for her company too which i really wanna do but i sleep at 5am and wake up mid day.. or rather i did. i fixed it in one long hard day. slept 2 hours, muscled through the day (i hate coffee so.. that doesnt help) and 9:30, crashed. best night of sleep. work up at 6 without my alarm. and, as elliot says, steps - you cant fix your life in a day. fixed my sleeping pattern. not my whole life. just my sleeping pattern and i promise, EVERYTHING is falling into place. i'll be travelling soon and again, sleeping pattern. one of my friends complained about the fact that i have no rules... i just float through thte day aimlessly. the only thing constant in my life is my art, cuz it's my job. it's how i feed myself, but making going to bed - turning OFF my phone and laptop and being in bed by 9:30, whether i'm tired or not sharp, my only one rule (for now) has already begun to sort things out. whatever it is, wherever it is. 9:30, BED. that's myy one commandment i dont break and by extention, other rhythms, consistencies, principles and convictions slowly take form. another is not eating after a certain time. i dont eat at the "right times"... breakfast, lunch and dinner. if i'm not hungry i dont force myself to eat, but because my sleeping pattern is sorted, i'm starting to eat more consistently... sleep is so key yo. you have no idea

    Sounds like a cheesy cliche, but cliches are often repeated because they're true..don't give up, keep following the path. When things really don't feel right make the change you think is necessary. Main thing is don't waste time, unless you really feel you need a break to reflect on things. But time is precious. All the best things in life are achieved gradually over time, so just keep going and remember you need to taste the sour in life sometimes so the sweet tastes ever sweeter.

    Great video Elliott. I know you didn't discuss this in the video, but as I'm watching, I realize there is a reason I cannot, **I cannot**, break this depressive state I'm in. I've got my physical-self in order, as you can see in my profile picture. I've dropped from a fat, unhealthy 195 pounds to a lean 165. This video Elliott, may have inspired me to change my life. I have realized what depression is. As a child, I didn't believe it existed. It's been four months. Four months since I lost my job. Four months since I was broken up with. Four months since I moved half-way across the country. *Four months since my depression began.* I have not escaped this state. I stay up until 2am, 3am, 4am. I stay in bed while the sun is beaming through my window. I thought four months ago, I would simply become happy again. I have fought every single day to fix myself. The hour I lost the grip on my life, I went to challenge myself and began walking immediately. I got so far away from home, I didn't know if I would make it back. I'm still making that walk. The thoughts in my head haven't disappeared. To get my mind back and become psychologically happy, I need to take control of my sleep. What I'm going to do, starting now, is quit the internet and mobile device usage. There's going to have to be exceptions, but I'm going to minimize it. I'm going to allow standard texting and calling. I'm going to use my phone as a phone. I'm going to delete the apps that consume my life. I'm going to quit youtube, sorry Elliott. No more facebook, snapchat, instagram. These addictions cannot effect me anymore. I realize to quit an addiction, I need to replace it, so I'm going to do meth, kidding, but I'm going to read. I'm in college, so I'll embrace the resources surrounding me. It's time, it has been time. I hope to thank-you some day. Your words have always been powerful to me.

    Yo Elliot! Thanks for the very informative video, I've had slumps too and I didn't know why and where did they come from, I mean like nothing like really bad happened or anything. But when I look back I realized it was just like you spoke in the video. I still have these 'mini slumps' from time to time and Im gonna give the advice you gave a shot, perhaps come back to update in a month or so how I'm doing, how I'm feeling, what has changed. But. One little thing is that I live in Finland. I love days, I love sunlight, I love watching the sun set (usually Im not up when sun rises), and I love waking up to hear birds singing outside, the light comes in from my window and I just love waking up to that, what a wonderful day! But now winter is coming. There isn't snow yet, but it is cold, it is rainy, and hell it is dark, all the time! When I wake up in morning there is no light coming in from my room's window, no birds singing, maybe I can hear rain drops on roof but nothing else, and it is dark as hell and just when I look outside it just looks so depressing. Well I get up and cycle to school, it is dark and it rains When Im in school, inside, the sun rises and it is even bright for couple of hours. But Im inside studying so no cheers from that. I get out from school and cycle back home, it is dark again and it rains I cycle to gym, it is dark and rains I cycle back home it is dark and rains You get the point, it gets up to me and the weather affects me really much and it depresses me. When the spring comes and first time in 6 or 7 months I see sun rising when I cycle to school it just cheers me up so much, it is beautiful, the nature blossoms and I feel so good. Last year darkness affected me really bad and I do not want it to happen again but I do not know how to prevent it, do you have any tips ?

  • @JaimeUnKiwi

    @JaimeUnKiwi

    I guess there isn't much you can do about the sun in winter, especially in Finland. Winter depression is very common, I'd say try to research about how you can lessen the effects, and find out what works. There's something called light therapy, which basically means exposing yourself to bright light during winter, as the days are shorter and the sky is grey. Apart from that, wake up early in the morning, have a walk outside, watch out for your diet and your carbs intake, and exercise regularly. Hope this helps

    Your'e spot on. We got to have these small things, these small rituals to keep us sane during hard times. The routines of whatever it is we do - meditation, training, reading... this is the light that guides us in the storm. And if we let to loose and throw it away too much, too often, it WILL make us feel lost. As if we lost control over our lives. Not that we ever have control over our lives, but sometimes it's just about feeling as if we have a grip.
