Never Buy Vinyl Plank that FAILS this Test

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

There are a few things to consider when buying vinyl plank flooring for your home and what I share in this video is the most important of all of them. Don't invest your money and time in just any vinyl plank. The last thing you want is you home renovation to go bad.
Luxury vinyl plank flooring is a great choice, just find a good quality plank. Anytime someone wants to DIY there own vinyl plank, it is hard enough learning how to do that and a good locking system will help greatly.

I just wanted to say thank you, you have no idea how you help the fixer upper people in America with your videos. The cheater boards alone are worth everything to me. I wish you much success in your future videos and in your life. May God Bless you, your family, friends and all who are touched by your positive dedication to free education. I can only imagine the hours you must put in just making the videos. I really enjoyed your $100K speech more young people need to hear that hard work and how you present yourself matters to your success. God Bless

Thanks a lot, Joe! All your videos are honest and forthright. You tell it like it is and I'm really glad you have been blessed with the knowledge and expertise to help those of us, like me, who are not professional installers and are just trying to save some dough. I watched several of your videos and there is one common theme. You tell it like it is. Stay healthy and God Bless, my friend. He put you on this earth to help others and you are doing His work.

Hey Joe, I watched quite a few of your excellent videos but unfortunately missed this one! I bought what I thought was a decent quality vinyl plank from Floor and Decor here in TX. The "Highland Park" plank cost $2.69 / sq.ft. I laid the Quiet Walk and the plank went down on the cement floor of an enclosed unheated/uncooled patio (rarely used). I am pleased with the finished project and the room looks great. But since I watched this video I realized the issues I had during installation may have been a combination of my inexperience and the product and a dose of impatience and frustration. But you'll be glad to hear I am in the process of installing vinyl in our walk-in closet (again on concrete). And I was lucky to hit a Costco sale on a quality product! So again - THANK YOU!

Great video, just installed the Pro Core LVP from Lowes, and I can tell you that the Pro Core LVP from Lowes is good stuff folks. Very strong locking system, but fairly forgiving for areas that aren't perfectly level. Just did my living room with no issues. We have a kid and 3 dogs, so you can imagine the abuse it takes lol. It has held up well so far. It's been installed for roughly a month, with no issues, and cleans up really easy with light soap/water. Would highly recommend to others. Price per SQ ft is roughly 2.50 at the time of this post

Had Malabu "Lincoln Park 9x60" installed by Home depot, the manufacturer says warranty is void if an underlayment is used - Home Depot put a 6mil moisture barrier under - Concrete slab. I made the mistake of not getting a sample, the color online was totally different than the online floor visualizer, but it is OK. Seems like a good product.

I'm a Jack of trades contractor, with many 1k's sf flooring installed. From first gen fibered laminate to current mid+ vinyl, most locks have been fragile junk! The First gen Shaw solid vinyl was rubbery flexible and memorably one of the most durable locks, although the surface scratched easily. As you demonstrated, the foam core most manufacturers are producing < Shaw - < some "Premiums" is weak at best. Is it really that difficult to produce a semi-rigid base layer for a durable lock? Or corporate shortcuts of profit agendas...? Either way, surface quality and durability of most, have improved dramatically! I suppose the key of warranty liability has been shifted towards the quality of our installations.

Quiet walk... Used to be my favorite. A few days ago, installing laminate in house, i found "Quiet walk" has changed the thickness from 3mm to 1mm... Not adequate. Instead i used the "Pergo" mylar coated 3mm foam pad. GREAT STUFF but pricey. I had no choice. All other pads tooooo thin. Almost all laminate I've installed, the female edge breaks easily. Yes, trickier to install, but cheaper. Tho it breaks easy, once put together, I've had secure joints... BUT i level & smooth floors where needed. In addition to tapping block, i use 6-8" scrap piece that i "lock in" & tap with hammer to aid install... Prevents damaging female edge., while still getting "assist". REALLY APPRECIATE YOUR VIDEOS !!!

I don’t know much about the vinyl, but Floor & Decor Aquagaurd Laminate, the groves are fine but the short edges lock with a drop lock system, so basically the next piece sits on top of the laid piece and locks in. The stupid floor keeps popping out at these joints everywhere you add any weight, sofa, dining room table, when I rolled the fridge in. I even used their ultra premium underlay net that’s almost $1/ sqft and it still has these issues. Yes, the subfloor is level, yes all instructions were followed, I even hired a installer to help me install the initial 10 rows to make sure I’m doing it right. Regardless, I have issues with it, and despite the floor looking amazing, I regret the $3.49 laminate, plus $0.80/ underlay, $4.30 a square flooring system and it’s junk out of the box-this is why their website has no reviews on anything and they constantly try and filter their Yelp and Google reviews.

Although the strength of the long and short joints are critical, they’re not exactly what makes a good locking system. There multiple locking systems, I4F, 5G, Unilin, to name a few, and how well these are milled is also critical. But, for sure if you can break a long joint with your fingers that’s a good place to start😉

I bought Shaw Floors' 6.5mm LVP here in Canada, and I found that one year after the installation the click joints at the short side of the planks started to fail. Now I am looking to glue to ends together just to prevent them from gapping.

Do you think the glue will hold the LVPs together when the lock is broken? The edge is not completely gone, just the notches are. It used to be like this: Plank___| |^^^Plank. But now that the notches are broken it's like this: Plank___ ^^^Plank. So while the horizontal part of the lock is touching there is just nothing preventing them coming apart.

I have the same issue on the short edges with Shaw. I have a coworker with the same problem with Shaw. Never again. I go into Shaw Floorings office from time to time on my job. THEY are having the same issues in their office with their own flooring LOL.

That mannington for the money they charge is garbage. I do work for a custom kitchen place and they stopped using that because the locking system is great but it’s a soft vinyl so when you roll a refrigerator or anything heavy over that product you see the wheel marks and that is a fact.
