I watch the molt very closely. I vaccinated and sprayed all the hens yesterday and all the cocks today. This hen was the only pigeon that was not perfect in feather. Something was not quite right with her this past season but she should be great next year.

Usually when you breed from pigeons that are not perfect they do not raise young with super vitality. The chicks most likely will not die but they will not be as nice as the others.

What about a hen that molts continuously? I have a hen that molts her primary feathers twice every year. Once during August then again in late December. I experimented giving her less feed one year in the winter season and she halted midtrack of molting her flights. The rest of the hens are perfectly fine and do not go through this at all.

Wow, I have never seen this. Very rare. Odd and must be both genetic and hormonal. It would be interesting if her children did the same thing.

Frank, I have a wet nest. Babies growing great just super wet dropping and parents drink tons of water. HELP

That is strange. I have seen this when there is a mineral deficiency and the birds eat excessive amounts of salt. Is it one nest or many? Could be one pair with a health problem. Some pigeons pump a lot of water. I would also try Jedds Avian Solution in the water. It will decrease water intake and also help sooth many possible problems. If this is only one pair and maybe only one bird you may want to separate the pair and try other mates.

Just one pair. Same cock last year first round was just like this. The hen last year raised 4 rounds and were my best young birds. I think I will cull the cock.

Sorry McLaughlin loft, but I will have to correct you on this scientifically. You can just pull those feathers out and let them grow better ones, reason behind why their feathers didn't molt out nicely because of deficient nutrition. A bird that grows feathers like that is because they (only) have corn to eat and not enough protein nutrients, like peas, soybean, and all the good stuff. Pigeons that are only on corns will grow those deficient nutrient feathers. When the birds becomes old, they will be able to select food that help them grow better feathers even when they are only on corn and nothing else. As a young bird if they only have corn as their meal, day and night, they would grow deficient feather quality. So right now for that bird, I suggest pull out those feathers and give them better food for them to grow their feathers.

Definitely not a lack of nutrition. My pigeons completed the molt on the combination of Vesale Laga Champion mixed with Vesale Laga Energy. They also had unlimited chicken pellets in front of them at all times as well as endless grits and minerals. To have every breeder in a perfect molt and one hen with a bad molt tells me there is something bothering that pigeon. I do appreciate your thoughts and this is how we all learn. She will be fine with a year off.

I get what your saying, but why only the 1 bird? If the nutrition was not right wouldn't there be more hens like this? I bet some sort of ailment prevented her from utilizing the nutrition at her disposal sufficiently.

Annnndd.... You think you know better? Stop trying to disagree to agree and learn something useful in your life about pigeons, especially YOUR pigeons how they are living, already tells you how you don't even care what the condition they are living. I'm very sad those pigeons have to live with such an owner.
