There is a lot proximity effect in all of the samples due to your speaking very close to the mic, so bass was boosted. The amount of bass boost is stronger for more localized cardioid patterns. The EV RE-20 attempts to minimize this. I heard two classes of mics: (1) those with a Shure-like vocal presence boost, and (2) those which are more accurate. The Neumann KMS-105 sounded very natural to me except for the proximity effect, noticeably lacking the artificial presence boost, and nothing grating about it. The EV RE-20 was similar, with less proximity effect. Many of the others had a strong Shure-like presence boost. The Rode M2 wasn't too bad. But with an instrument, I think differences would be much more noticeable. For live use, some of them have feedback tendencies, like the Blue Encore.

It sounds good, but I prefer the SM58, the SM7B, and the RE20, all of which sound a little better to me, and as a bonus they're all less expensive.

Yeah the RE20 and SM7B I'd say for sure I thought sounded on par or better. 1/2 the price.

i found that neumann kms 105 have very wierd top, it sounds kind of fake? For the same money u can get tlm 102 and it's gonna be more versatile. 104 is better but it lacks bass and top more rolled off wich is better for spoken word. I know for sure "Opie and Anthony" radio show in 2010's used neumann kms 104 - u can see it in videos from studio
