I heard all the KH sounds very similar. If one does not like KH80, he would not like KH310. It just has more bass and can play louder. KH80+KH750 sound almost the same as KH310 based on many reviews.

@@PO-nb8qc I have to disagree.. After we replaced the 120s in our atmos suite with 310s there was a marked improvement in clarity.. granted, the 120s are amazing. Also the 80s we have in our VO and radio Suites are just not on par with the 120s.. (We have KH810 subs in all our rooms)

Huh... Flat and neutral is the way to go if you want to hear what the artists actually sounded like in the studio or live... if flat and neutral is dull and boring, it just means the music you're listening to is dull and boring.

Agreed. Or your room needs correction. The Genelec 8260 is the speaker I can't wait to go home to, and it's made to be as flat as possible.

There's no such thing as hearing what an artist actually sounded like. Even in the studio there has been massive EQ on everything, every microphone, every instrument. It's an idea audiophiles love to chase but doesn't exist. Just make your speakers sound the best they can (definitely not dull) to your ears in your room

  • @LeDechaine

@@RustOnTime Above all I'm against the idea that flat and neutral means dull and boring. It means everything recorded live with a (flat and neutral) microphone will sound dull and boring when you listen to it again. It makes no sense. Music is not "dull and boring unless you EQ everything". Speakers are not "dull and boring unless their frequency response graph is a rollercoaster". Truth and naturalness are the opposite of dull and boring.

Neumann speakers are awesome. The neutral and very precise sound profile, the high build quality - expensive, but worth every penny. The bigger models are actually an excellent choice for a fully active home cinema setup. Neumann and Genelec are the studio kings.

@Righteous Evil Genelec Owner here: Got a 8330 Setup and to my ears and in my room, they are definitely the opposite of dull. Some might even argue, that they are a little bit too good sounding for a monitor - But they are a staple in the studio and broadcast studio, so who am I to judge. For Hifi they are crystal clear and engaging and I had to put them on -2db for the highs, because for my ears and room it was just a tiny bit too much. Are the KH80/KH120 better or worse? I would argue, that this is a very subjective thing. Both are equally competent and both have a different sound, but especially the KH120 and the 8330 are in the same league. Finland VS Germany - I opted for Finland (as a german) I listened quite a few times to Yamaha HS7 and HS8 and for the price, they are damn fine but also a bit too harsh and aggressive in comparison. Still highly recommended speaker and I've seen quite a few of them in home studios and smaller production companies, because they are very budget friendly and well made, but to my ears not on the same level as Neumann or Genelec, which is, once again, highly subjective. (Maybe except for the build quality - Neumann and Genelec really are top tier with their full metal housing and proven durability) I've heard Adams, but it's been a while and I really can't compare.

I hope Neumann eventually releases an App for Andriod. BTW, this is what they claim about their mathmatical waveguide: The perfect sound of higher mathematics at work The Neumann developers know every nuance, every angle and every wave reflection of the KH 80 DSP. It sounds so pure because they are directing every sound wave so precisely. The KH 80 DSP’s design is based on computer simulations that calculate with a level of accuracy that no one other than Neumann does. The Mathematical Modeled Dispersion Waveguide (MMD™) provides the studio series with a solid base for precise sound direction that remains unique. Maths has never sounded so good.

Glad you reviewed these. I chose the KH120A (non digital versions), they don't use the digital microphone room EQ profiling of the KH80's, though as the KH120's have a larger bass driver they extend further - and certainly have more volume. It is a valid comparison - the KH80's and the iLouds MTM's you point to due to this digital room profiling, I have the iLouds, though for studio use it's the KH120A all the way, no question. Back to studio headphones, Yamaha HPH-MT5, do a review man!! They beat my DT 1990 Pro's hands down - and the MT5's can be driven harder without distortion. Like every headphone they are not perfect but whatever faults you might find, overall they are the fullest, tightest, fastest, non-fatiguing studio headphones out there, yes even if you are paying $1000's, they just don't complain - even if I throw them on my desk or punch insane volumes through them.

Setting up the DSP requires the speakers have a wired Ethernet connection, so the "extra box" would be an Ethernet hub, which most people will already have (assuming they have 2 free ports). I can only guess they opted for wired Ethernet to avoid any kind of radio transmitter noise, but I would have preferred they use bluetooth to avoid all of the extra wiring just for set-up. The KH80s replaced my gigantic Electro-Voice Sentry 1As from the late 1970s. Incredibly, the KH80s sound exactly like the much larger studio reference monitors, even on the low frequencies. The only difference is the Sentry 1As had huge magnets that only required about 40w to drive two speakers from an external amplifier while the KH80s require as much as 240w to push as much air, but that's just the law of physics I guess. I would echo that they require very little adjustment so you could very likely live with just the set-up on the toggle switches.

@@johannes0806 thanks so much, actually i've had them for years & adore them but suddenly they sound really thin. i'm way too casual about the red volume warning light thing, so i probably blew them out. sometimes record my own vox but not an expert at all. also seeing them for like $700 which seems too good to be true so was wondering if neumann has something better i should upgrade to but. based on your advice probably just gonna order a new pair

Note this is a professional speaker , is use to master the sound for the standard consumer equipment and most of this equipment don’t have high quality tweeter mid subwoofer , this professional have to master the music to sound good in those equipment to make them happy and sell more , if you use a high quality speaker to master the sound , it may not sound good in consumer equipment

I own these. While i think they sound fantastic one thing i find very non-ideal. The Auto-Standby. It takes FOR-E-VER for them to go into sleep and it takes a felt eternity for them to switch on again. Literally ANY monitor i had in the Past had a better autostandby. The Canton AM5 for example goes into Sleep in a few minutes of silence and switches back on 2-3 Seconds max after Signa hits the speakers again. The Kh80 sometimes even don`t turn off. Like even if i have my Interface Volume to 0 i find them bein "On" in the morning. Very bad Auto Standby implementation

Hi! Are they only suitable for listening to music? I don’t know what to choose .. There is no way to listen Can you advise something? Hedd 05, Eve 204/205 (+ sub), Gold 5-8 (+ sub), adam T5-8V (+ sub), KH 80, APS Klasik 2020 or some thing else? Thank you!

Per Aspera Ad Creation / Roman Gorelov well they are speakers so they mainly do good in music. I would not try to use them for coocking. :-) jokes apart, this is a very wide question that i cant answer since i will say one thing and the next one something else. If you want to get more information watch tutorials and maybe visit some Mastering forums and in generall audio people forums. But its a neverending story. Without listening its 70% research and 30% luck combined with luck . I havent heard every model you mention but had some Adams a while back but sold them cause i found them impressive at first but tiresomemely bright after a while. The Kh80 is one of the most unspectacular and flat sounding speaker i have ever heard. This is perfect if you want to master or simply want 98% honesty of how a recording sounds. For backround listening it might get boring cause linearity is not everyones favorite thing. The Hedd i hear good things but the air motion transformer tweeter is not my cup of tee. Have heard a few speakers with this tweeter in the last 20 years but never won me over. Imwould say any of the speakers you mention are good and all will profit from a sub except the 2020 which might have a bit more authority without a sub due to cone size. I personally cant listen without a sub. Also even more important than all these speakers is your room. So as i said, a neverending discussion which is better suited for forums of likeminded people. Wish you luck

@@saardean4481 Saar Dean Thank you very much for the information and such a detailed answer! That's right, you have to rely on pieces of information from the forums and luck So far I have settled on a more budget option of Tannoy Gold 8 (8") without sub, because they are very beautiful + inexpensive (400 euro pair) + people consider them to be good speakers. But if I still decide to spend more money, I will look towards Klasik 2020

You can tune auto-standby time in ipad app, by default it’s 90 minutes. What you can’t tune - sensitivity to incoming signal, on my units it is different between units, and it is really annoying.

lmao this man contradicted himself so many times. they're studio monitors, flat & neutral is what pro's want from their monitors. sounds like like you expected these to be hi-fi speakers which is no doubt why you like the MTM's more.

Fuck Sennheiser for what they did to K&H. Compare Neumann O420 with K&H O410. Neumann pushed the price for 500! euros AND installed parts of lower quality. K&H didn't fuck around when they build a monitor. Sennheiser is pissing in the customers face by selling lower quality for a higher price. Instead of buying Neumann you should buy used K&H.

@@plompudu2529 Accurate enough for mixing, not accurate for mastering. Mastering is another world of accuracy. Don't get me wrong.. I love, use at work and own Neumann speakers. But the KH80s are small speakers. We have them in a couple of our smaller rooms, that we do mainly VO recording and radio promos in... our medium sized rooms, which are only about 10 by 15 you need to up it to the KH120 which we have. (My home suite is 6 by 7 and I use the 120s.. mainly because the 80s weren't a thing at the time I bought my 120s) The 80s would not have enough output for a mastering suite. And even if you pushed them, they would "feel" distant.

@@drdelewded what do you mean by accurate? It seems we're talking about different Things. For me is accuracy the ability to produce a flat on axis/ Listening Window response + have room correction under the Schrödinger frequency. (aka no sound colorations) But i agree that they cant reach dolby reference level at higher distances than 0.9m. (105dB peak) Imo is reference level not worth it, if we are talking about Media consumption, since i would like to keep my hearing :D. Out of interest at what level do you mix/master and at what level do you consume Media?
