It was an shame Holland didn't win the both the 1974 and 1978 WC because overall they were the fans favorite for the ability and entertainment they provided!

I'm Argentine, I LOOOOOVE our duels with Netherlands at world cups, they're always EPIC. It sucks Netherlands couldn't win this world cup in '74 . As we call the Netherlands from this era "La Naranja Mecanica" (The Clockwork Orange) will always be remembered as one of the best national teams of World Era, Cruyff... my god what a legend... you know what they say, Heroes are remembered, but Legends never die.

What a team this Netherlands side was. Cruyff, Neeskens, Krol, Van Hanegem supported by Rep, Rensenbrink and others. I think I enjoyed the 74 world cup more than any others with iconic players and teams. Excellent West German and Polish teams created great drama

So unfortunate that this wonderful team lost the final in Germany in 74 ..they were absolutely amazing,total football from today , amazing players and a joy to watch I'm so sad they didn't win the title that their football deserved And again in 78 😢

Great game. Dutch total football! Wow - was I a fan!! They had it all. And never was there a bigger favorite in a World Cup final than in 1974 (with the possible exception of the final in 1954). The early goal - 17 passes - without a german foot near - 1-0. That MAY have caused some impact. - - - - - - - However - we can't take away the efforts of Breitner (he shouldn't take the penalty!, but he saw that the others were nervous ...) and - of course- Der Bomber. No other player in history could turn around like he did - 2-1. I was however devastated. 12 years old. In Norway. Life could NOT turn normal after THIS SHOCK!!! - - - - - - Mario Kempes one of the substitutes. His effort in the next final - well - we all know about it. (however - I still feel that the dutch lost due to lousy and extreme home refereeing!) Kempes also played a great 1982-championship. Then more as a ball distributor, strategic midfielder. Rubén Ayala (nr 2) was also a great player. - - - - - - Life goes on! With or without - football.

Purtroppo l'Olanda ebbe la sfortuna di giocare le due finali proprio contro i paesi ospitanti, e, nonostante fosse superiore, all'ultimo scoglio si impantanò, per un misto di "fattori ambientali", di malasorte (palo di Rensenbrik all'ultimo minuto nel 78) e di propri demeriti (gioco sottotono contro la Germania nel 74). This was the last weak Argentine Team. After 78 they were allways among the favorites and only really dissapointed in 2010 with the 0:4 loss against germany.

Футбол игра коллективная, Месси тоже чудом стал чемпионом. В 1970 Жаорзиньо на голову был выше Пеле, в Бразилии он признан был лучшим в том году. С такой полузащитой Пеле было легче гораздо, а то признали лучшим, у него мама имеет еврейские корни.

Futebol nem sempre o melhor ganha , por isso é o melhor esporte e o mais imprevisível .Não ganharam mas marcaram época , deixaram futebol bonito.

Hasta el 74 la Selección Argentina era un cambalache. Primero porque los clubes menopreciaban la selección, y 2do, porque había una falsa creencia de que éramos los mejores sin ganar nada, ya desde los 30-40s se mamó esa creencia, por lo que se creía que no hacía falta preparar y organizar un equipo seleccionado de manera acorde. A partir de acá, la Selección Argentina se profesionalizó, y se empezó a jugar con más humildad y organización. Holanda acá nos dió un baño de realidad del fútbol moderno que se venía.

Soy uruguayo y en ese mismo mundial Holanda le ganó 2 a 0 a Uruguay, si bien no fué goleada, en el compacto se nota que nos comimos un baile inolvidable, aquí Argentina no patea al arco, pero al menos logra incomodar a Holanda con fricción, metiendo, cortando con patadas.. miren el compacto de Holanda vs uru y verán lo que es un baile de verdad, directamente parece un equipo profesional contra uno amateur, la defensa uruguaya no los podía agarrar ni para pegarles, hay imágenes que son increíbles, mas teniendo en cuenta que en ese entonces Uruguay aún era potencia (venía de ser semifinalista en el 70), pero definitivamente empezaba su decadencia y esta Holanda se nota que no solo tenía grandes jugadores sino que también era una novedad en términos tácticos y una máquina física, y eso se ve muy bien en ese partido

Ese equipo argentino era horrible, practicamente eran amateurs, no tenían la preparación física adecuada. Los holandeses volaban. Y la verdad debieron ser campeones, me apenó mucho que perdiera la final Holanda, aunque soy argentino, y sé que hay una rivalidad evidente más luego de Quatar, yo quería que ganara Holanda porque admiraba a Cruyff.

Antes si se jugaba fuerte, y los jugadores no se quedaban haciendo tiempo, o simulando faltas. De echo en un partido normal de estos tiempos debieron salir expulsados varios jugadores de ambas selecciones. Desde mi niñez admire esta naranja mecánica, mereció salir campeón mundial en esos tiempos. La localía se hizo presente y no lo lograron (74 y 78)

La successions de fautes sur le grand Cruyff ,sinon c'était la plus gande punition de l'histoire du Football .Des Argentins simples sparring partners ,complètement dépassés techniquement , ces Pays Bas méritaient mille fois la couê en 74 ; le grand paradoxe fut qu'ils soient défaits quatre ans plus tard par ces mêmes Argentins fortement remaniés avec des Ardiles , kempes , le capitaine dont le nom m'echappe : une vrai équipe de braves . Les Pays Bas mérite un titre , ne soyons pas trop chauvins nous les François. Un petit pays ,d'immenses joueurs , bravo les Bataves !

The team had some brilliant players! But in the World Cup, as a team, they didn't gel enough! And I think also physically they were not quite like the great teams of that day, like Holland themselves! Argentina had very good players in 1974. But it were oldie on its strategies and tactics... The quick solution that day would have been to play defensive that match from the beginning. Would have had better result. Argentina that day I think played 4-2-4. Better should have played 4-4-2 or 4 - 5 - 1. There were no time for learn modern tactics.

But following your desperate reasoning, I will say that Uruguay (a small country with 3,415,920 inhabitants) won the soccer world championship TWICE in 1930 and 1950. And the Netherlands, a country with 17,811,291, NEVER WON A WORLD CUP. And Argentina WON three World Cups (giving the Netherlands tremendous beatings in all of them). The World Cup is not for "big countries" the World Cup is for "Those who know how to play soccer well."

Argentina won three , Uruguay ( a small country ) won two and the Netherlands none . That is what counts for the fans of the national teams and for FIFA. The rest is blah blah blah and thus all the countries that have not won a World Cup could find statistical justification for their failures. Don't be discouraged, the Netherlands deserves to win a World Cup (much more than Spain or France) but for various reasons they haven't achieved it yet. All the national teams have learned and copied the game of the Dutch team of 1974. The Netherlands has marked setbacks in world football but my modest opinion is that in the case of the 2014 and 2022 World Cups they made the wrong choice of coach. Van Gaal stayed in time and did not understand that current football is about speed. Van Gaal has betrayed the long Dutch tradition of total football. The Netherlands will be back in the semifinals as always and those of us who love good football would love a revenge final between Germany and the Netherlands.
