I truly believe this whole conflict was initiated by Isteal in some way for a variety of reasons one of which is the presence of a rich gas field off the Gaza coast. KZread has a post on its' finding four years ago and one about ten months ago on an agreement between the Egyptian, Isreali, and Palestinian Authority to extract the gas jointly. Perhaps Isreal and etc didn't want Hamas to have such a lucrative asset.

Accepting a cease fire now does not eliminate the terrorist threat to israel if hamas remains. Any geo has to be good for both sides. Did gaza civilians think that israel would get off their land after hamas attacked and murdered thirteen hundred israeli civilians? That was never going to happen.
