youre not the only one. Basically anyone whose has play NES during their childhood (including me) will feel the same way. While anyone who have not play NES during their childhood but playing PS1 will feel PS1 was the best console ever for their childhood.

Fun fact: The NES Advantage controller's slow motion feature would cause this game to malfunction. The stage backgrounds would start to become completely deformed, placing walls where they shouldn't be and such. It could even end up affecting the bosses, since many of them were technically moving backgrounds they would sometimes end up with chunks of wall attached to them :0

Always more exciting when 2 experts cooperate to beat a classic game. Congrats, men!

Sol Elraanis The level 6 music was the perfect final level music. For a sport game, it would have been the perfect music for the last part of the game.

The Stage 6 music is the best of the bunch and the boss music in this game.

Back in the days when the economy was a little better me and my brother drove to the US from Canada to buy this game. It was much cheaper over there. We came back with a few titles like Life Force, Contra, The Guardian Legend and a few others i can't recall. We played life force to death and could finish it without dying in the end.

The video made the boss fights seem easy. Trust me. They are not.

I loved the action, the graphics and especially the music of this game when I was a kid. But damn, that ending sure was a letdown. "That's IT?!" - 8 year old me.

What's tight is the fact the music makes you wait before you hear the shooting. "Patience," says Lifeforce for regular Nintendo.

This game here brought my brother and I closer as a team growing up. You have to work as a team with the cool part is when you die you can give your lives to your brother.

@Alexander Simpson Flickering is one of several effects that often don't translate from old CRTs to modern graphics cards -- they're just designed too differently. Add emulator quirks and KZread's compression to the mix, and even more can get scrambled. In this vid I think they kept their shields most of the time, it's just that the sprite was sometimes rendered wrongly (as a normal ship) for these reasons. Same thing can happen with the invisibility potion in Castlevania for example.

I can remember being around six years old and renting this game waaaay back in the day, and because I was so young at the time I wasn't allowed to play it until the next day cause it was after my bedtime when I got back home (which in those days was around 8:30) :)

I love this game so much. Man, what happened to great challenging games like this. Games now are just plain easy. What blows my mind as well is that gamers today only think about graphics and only play FPS games. All they got in their heads is nothing but COD. Actually, I'm SICK of CoD!

Jason W. I not agree. I think Life Force is a bad game because you need to memorize the whole levels. How it suppose I know the pink blocks are going to fill the screen? And what about those flames in the third level? Good shooters are Contra, Jackal, the first Gradius or even Galaga, this one is a frustrating memorize game

First Gradius ? No Way ! Fuck Gradius 1-4, and it's fucking restart points ! In Life Force & Gradius 5 you die, and respawn. The Restart Points in R-Type, Gradius 1-4 ruin the complette games ! You die, and start and all powerups are gone ! All the work is ruined ! And you dont need to memorize the levels in Life Force (but it helps) the flame level is easy if you are smart enough to keep your self in the middle, and you need to be fast. What pink blocks ? All what you need is forward thinking and good reflexes, just shoot and go straight !

One of Konami's greatest games

I remember play Lifeforce is one of my all-time favorite Konami NES Game beside Gradius, Castlevania and Contra especially my all-time favorite Stinger. But I played Famicom Version Port called Salamander when I was a 8 year old child since since 2009.

Stage 2 and stage 3 are my jam.

This was/is my favorite NES game ever, can finish it without any death and even with no powerups, but it took alot of "up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, b, a, start" to practice :D

Nice play through! I would like to see a video of the harder difficulties sometime. Me and my friend played this game for hours and hours until we finaly got though it. But after the finish the game starts of and is harder. First the rock arms start to shoot & then everything gets faster for every lapse & and some bosses move in different patterns. People who think this game is easy should give that a try :) You two who made this video would still slay though.

In the Gradius games and Salamander/Life force games if it supports co-op you can only have 4 options which is split between the 2 ships.

Miss my gaming companion. We had some good times on Gradius and Raiden III. What a difference 2,187 miles make. Sad face.

This game is so hard to beat. I always get to the part half way through the thirst level when the screen starts turning into letters and numbers and the screen freezes and I can't figure out how to get past that part. How can you unfereeze the screen and finish the level? Help!

David Simon do you tried to move the cartridge a bit?

Played this game so much with a cousin... We could play it without dying like on a script, super optimized to get as strong as possible as fast as possible with the "full kit" ( double laser upgrades, double missiles upgrades, 1 option each, 1x speed or 2 depending on mood, force and then finally one force charge standing by ready to go if we lost the current one active ), then once game was over through new game+, over and over again eventually. Fun times...

one of my first games ever....

Im surprised that Konami didn't bring the SCC's technology over to the NES this and many other games would have benefited greatly from it.

This game is so hard ! No wonder their's a coop. mode. Though I still think Gradius is the hardest game on NES of this categorie. The music is really beautifull here though, I play a lot on the piano (especially last level in 12/8 in really nice !), it sounds wonderfull. :)

I'm just guessing, the Egyptian theme in Level 5 was inspired by Stargate

Me too, I only play a few recent games, but if someone tells me what kind of games I play, my answer is retro games like the SNES, NES... well you know what I mean.

I found myself watching play wandering the beginning and that's it when I start falling player-to-player one has the advantage.

My favorite boss in this game is the Dragon in the third level of Life Force for the NES.

I have that game but the title is Salamander not LifeForce for the 8-Bit Nintendo Famicom system. Salamander's ending have end credits while LifeForce don't (25:43).

Life Force is pretty much US version of Salamander. This one only allows 2 options instead of 4 like Salamander.

weird...why only one option? is it limited to just one in 2-player mode? i know for a fact you can get two in 1-player...figured it would be the same for 2-p. also, curious why no level 2 missiles until stage 4? next, do it using ripple instead of laser, haha!

Oh man, how I missed playing this classic game. It's still a shame that I can't beat this completely without using the classic Konami cheat, though. I will someday. Also, the music of this game is also one of my all time favorites with stages 3 and 5 as my top two themes. Ah, good times.

This was a huge step up from Gradius, which isn't BAD, just too repetitive, and no actual bosses. Then came Abadox, which is pretty much on par with this one. The bosses in Life Force are way too easy with 2 players, especially when fully powered.

(continued) games back then to keep ppl interested so they dont blow through the game in a single playthrough, nowadays games last longer then the usual 8 or so stages they had in the old days so they now have a better solution to make games last.

So this is the game made me stop eating chicken for 5 months straight.

This game was soo fukin scary to me when i was young .
